  • Pirelli Calendar 2010 by Terry Richardson London
Pirelli Calendar 2010 by Terry Richardson London, 19 November 2009 – The 2010 Pirelli Calendar, now in its 37th edition, was presented to the press and to guests and collectors from around the world, at its global premiere in London. The much-awaited appointment with ‘The Cal’, a cult object for over 40 years, was held this year at Old Billingsgate, the suggestive late 19th century building on the banks of the Thames, where from 1875 to 1982 it housed the capital city’s fish market. Following China, immortalized by Patrick Demarchelier in the 2008 edition, and Botswana shot by Peter Beard a year later, 2010 is the year of Brazil and of American photographer Terry Richardson, the celebrated “enfant terrible” known for his provocative and outrageous approach. In the 30 images that scan the months of 2010, Terry Richardson depicts a return to a playful, pure Eros. Through his lens he runs after fantasies and provokes, but with a simplicity that sculpts and captures the sunniest side of femininity. He portrays a woman who is captivating because she is natural, who plays with stereotypes in order to undo them, who makes irony the only veil she covers herself with. This is a return to the natural, authentic atmospheres and images of the ‘60s and ‘70s. It is a clear homage to the Calendar’s origins, a throwback to the first editions by Robert Freeman (1964), Brian Duffy (1965) and Harry Peccinotti (1968 and 1969). Terry Richardson, like his illustrious predecessors, has chosen a simple kind of photography, without retouching, where naturalness prevails over technique and becomes the key to removing artificial excesses in vogue today to reveal the true woman underneath.

JON M. HUNTSMAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS | UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY | SUMMER 2017 Jon M. Huntsman & Charles Koch provide $50 million gift, the largest in USU history BY PHOTO 2 HUNTSMAN ALUMNI MAGAZINE • SUMMER 2017 President Noelle Cockett announces the $50 million Huntsman/Koch gift at the 2017 Utah State University Commencement. Photo by Russ Dixon. 3 dean’s message Commencements are always memorable, especially for graduates and their families, but this year’s ceremony on May 6, 2017 marked an especially important milestone for USU and for the Huntsman School—the announcement of a $50 million gift from the Huntsman Foundation and the Charles Koch Foundation. This historic gift—the largest in the history of Utah State University—will be paid out over the course of ten years, and will support a four-fold expansion in our Huntsman Scholar program, six new faculty positions, and a new research center, the Center for Growth and Opportunity. Combined, these matching $25 million grants will create scholarships for nearly 500 students a year, and opportunities to travel, explore new ideas, and interact with outstanding faculty, alumni and business professionals. Ten years ago, when he made his first $25 million gift to USU’s College of Business, Jon Huntsman challenged us to produce students who can compete with the best and brightest anywhere in the world. The last decade has been a time of remarkable change, as we have sought to “get better fast”— better faculty, better facilities, and better students. Eight out of 10 of our faculty and nine out of 10 of our staff are new to the school in that period.

  • Calendario Pirelli 2011, Viaggio Tra Miti, Eroi E Divinità | 1

1 Chapter 1 Introduction The portion of West Bengal from the Ganges on the south and the Himalayas on the north is called North Bengal. It consists of the districts Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch-Behar, West Dinajpur and Malda, all under the political jurisdiction of Jalpaiguri division. Charu Chandra Sanyal 1 There cannot be had a history of the inhabitation or the peoples used to live in the present day North Bengal which was a part of Varendra region of ancient times in a long past. However the ancient texts Smritishastras, inscriptions to some extent are still giving witness of the demographic picture even of the earliest time of human civilization in the region though in a very tiny level. The oldest sources on population habitation of the region are Aitereya Aranyak and Manusamhita. 2 Besides Mahabharata and Jaina religious text Acharanga Sutra throw light over the living of people in Varendra-Pundra region. The famous Gramarian Panini’s ‘Mah- abhashy’, ‘Kamsutra’ of Batsayan, ‘Arthasastra’ of Kautilya, Buddhist text ‘Boudhayan Dharmasutra’, ‘Arya Manjusree- mulkalpa’ and in Buddhist ‘Doha Charyagitika reflect some of references of life and living of people in this region. The texts of historical period such as ‘Ramcharitam’ of Sandhyuakar Nandi of tenth century, ‘Rajtarangini’ of Kalhan of eleventh century, ‘Tabakat-i-Nasiri’ of Minhas-us-Siraj of thirteenth century and ‘Ine-i-Akbari’ of Abul Fazal of sixteenth century supply information regarding demography of the region in ancient times and later on. During the British period for the administrative purpose like the other places of India a very expansive anthropomorphic and racial investigation was made also in the region of our study.
