Received 30 September 2017; accepted 27 February 2018; available online 1 August 2018 DOI: https://10.30880/jst.2018.10.02.005 Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB), the primary cause of morbidity and mortality globally is a great public health challenge especially in developing countries of Africa and Asia. Existing TB treatment involves multiple therapies and requires long duration leading to poor patient compliance. The local people of Kampung Peta, Endau Rompin claimed that local preparations of some plants are used in a TB symptoms treatment. Hence, there is need to validate the claim scientifically. Thus, the present study was designed to investigate the in vitro anti-mycobacterial properties and to screen the phytochemicals present in the extracts qualitatively. The medicinal plants were extracted using decoction and successive maceration. The disc diffusion assay was used to evaluate the anti-mycobacterial activity, and the extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening using standard chemical tests. The findings revealed that at 100 mg/ml concentration, the methanol extract of Nepenthes ampularia displayed largest inhibition zone (DIZ=18.67 ± 0.58), followed by ethyl acetate extract of N. ampularia (17.67 ± 1.15) and ethyl acetate extract of Musa gracilis (17.00 ± 1.00). The phytochemical investigation of these extracts showed the existence of tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, and steroids.

A liner is a very important component in the landfill as a barrier to leachate migration into the environment. If the landfill system is not well managed it will contaminate the soil and ground water, thus presenting a risk to human and environmental health. The objective of this study is to investigate the natural soils properties at Endau-Rompin National Park (PETA), Johor that are suitable as a compacted soil liner. There are two locations of soil sampling i.e. Kampung Peta (KP) and Nature Education and Research Centre (NERC). The soil samples were taken to geotechnical and Environmental Engineering Laboratory UTHM for analysis of soil characteristics and its chemical compositions. The tests were sieve analysis, particle size analyzer, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, and X-Ray Fluorescence. The results revealed that the natural soil properties are capable of meeting the criterion and suitable to be used as a compacted soil liner for sanitary landfill.

Maintain BUY on MPR, HOLD on ASTRO. TV digitization has begun in earnest Broadcasting 85% of the population has been covered by the DTTB platform since Jan 2016. MYTV also currently has the capacity to launch 30 FTA TV channels. 98% of the population will be covered by the DTTB platform by 2017 but to be fair, it requires a lot more infrastructure and effort than covering 85% of the population. Analogue switch off (ASO) date has been set for Jun 2018 at latest and it will still be within the target ASO date for all ASEAN countries to migrate to the DTTB platform by 2018. All in all, we opine that the TV digitization process is in full swing. Malaysia Fears over competition and rental fees overblown? MYTV initially targeted to upgrade its capacity to launch 80 FTA TV channels by 2019. Currently, MYTV will still upgrade its capacity to launch 80 FTA TV channels but gradually over a longer period.

The technical code prepared pursuant to section 185 of the Act shall consist of, at least, the requirement for network interoperability and the promotion of safety of network facilities. This study documented ethnomedical knowledge of plants used for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) and its related symptoms as practiced by the Jakun community of Kampung Peta, situated in Endau Rompin Johor National Park, Johor, Malaysia. Eight key informants were selected by snowball sampling technique and data about medicinal plants were collected by semistructured interviews, participatory observations, and focus group. Qualitative analysis was undertaken using thematic analysis. There were 23 species of plants (22 genera, 20 families) documented and herbarium specimens were deposited at the UTHM Herbarium. Dipterocarpus sublamellatus was recorded for the first time with ethnomedical uses while other species were previously reported. The qualitative approach employed in this study demonstrates the emic perspective in terms of perceptions on traditional herbal medicine, transfer of knowledge, significant taboos related thwi medicinal plants, and their conservation efforts.
