The Program's highest priority is protecting the 176 species of vertebrate and invertebrate animals and 259 species of native plants that are officially listed as Endangered, Threatened or of Special Concern in Massachusetts. Endangered species conservation in Massachusetts depends on you! A major source of funding for the protection of rare and endangered species comes from voluntary donations on state income tax forms. Contributions go to the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Fund, which provides a portion of the operating budget for the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program. Also, the paper provides information about the hayfields floral richness, a great scientific value for Romania and Europe. The study of the flora was carried out in several stages: 2005-2008, 2013, 2017-2018. In the studied area, 397 taxa were identified, distributed in 82 families with therapeutic potential, represented by 164 medical taxa, 37 of them being in the European Pharmacopoeia 8.5. The study reveals that most plants contain: volatile oils (13.41%), tannins (12.19%), flavonoids (9.75%), mucilages (8.53%) etc. This plants can be used in the treatment of various human disorders: disorders of the digestive system, respiratory system, skin disorders, muscular and skeletal systems, genitourinary system, in gynaecological disorders, cardiovascular, and central nervous sistem disorders. In the study plants protected by law at European and national level were identified: Echium maculatum, Cephalaria radiata, Crambe tataria, Narcissus poeticus ssp. radiiflorus, Salvia nutans, Iris aphylla, Orchis morio, Orchis tridentata, Adonis vernalis, Dictamnus albus, Hammarbya paludosa etc. Keywords: Fărăgău, medicinal plants, human disease, Mureş County 1. -

Outline of angiosperm phylogeny: orders, families, and representative genera with emphasis on Oregon native plants Priscilla Spears December 2013 The following listing gives an introduction to the phylogenetic classification of the flowering plants that has emerged in recent decades, and which is based on nucleic acid sequences as well as morphological and developmental data. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. Zeltnera beyrichii (Torr. & A. Gray) Mans., an insufficiently acknowledged North American medicinal plant species, may be considered a pharmacological substitute for commercial C. erythraea Rafn, since it accumulates in aerial parts nearly the same amount of secoiridoid glycosides: swertiamarin, gentiopicrin, and sweroside (13.76, 7.56, and 0.17 mmol per 100 g dry weight, respectively) in plants grown under greenhouse condition, and a considerable amount of xanthones: decussatin and eustomin. Additionally, Z. beyrichii produced as much biomass during cultivation in RITA® temporary immersion bioreactors as greenhouse-grown plants, in a third of the time. Plants grown in bioreactors contained moderate levels of total phenolics and total flavonoids, and possessed modest antioxidant activity and antimicrobial potential against eight bacterial and eight fungal species. Therefore, this species may be highly recommended for cultivation either in natural environment, or in bioreactors under in vitro conditions, for producing compounds of interest of modern pharmacology and food industry. Huds.) was initiated on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. In the presence of benzylaminopurine (BAP) numerous adventitious buds formed, which developed into shoots. Presence of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) in media significantly decreased number of buds, but increased development of lateral roots. On hormone-free medium shoots successfully rooted and developed flowers and viable seeds that formed another generation. Shoot cultures of B. perfoliata inoculated with suspension of Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain A4M70GUS developed hairy roots at 3 weeks and they were cultured on hormone-free MS medium. The plant is widely distributed in the states along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, and is considered to be abundant in the southern portion of its range. It is rare in New York and New England at the northeastern limits of its distribution. Sabatia stellaris is an annual that usually grows as one main stem with branching on the upper half. In the northern part of its range, plants grow to 20 cm. Flowers consist of a 4 to 7-lobed corolla that ranges from crimson-pink to light pink and sometimes white. The white-flowering form is widespread in the southern part of its range; however, this form constituted 75% of a Connecticut population in 2003, which is considered the first documentation of this form in New England. As an annual, S. stellaris exhibits extreme variability in the number of plants found at an occurrence in a given year. For example, in 2002 the estimated number of plants at three of the extant New England populations numbered about 1000, with an absence of plants from the fourth occurrence. -

Species Information a) Name: Scientific: Centaurium muehlenbergii (Griseb.) Wight ex Piper Synonyms: C. curvistamineum (Wittr.) Abrams and C. floribundum (Benth.) B.L. Rob. (Missouri Botanical Gardens - W3TROPICOS November 2001; ITIS November 2001) Kartesz (1994) does not list C. floribundum as a synonym. English name: Muhlenberg’s centaury; The name Centaurium is from the greek word kentaurous, referring to the centaur Chiron who supposedly discovered the medicinal properties of the genus (Hitchcock et al. 1969). Family: Gentianaceae - Gentian Family b) Classification: Centaurium is generally considered to be a taxonomically difficult genus (Cronquist et al. 1984; Hickman 1993; Holmes & Wivagg 1996; Mansion, pers. com., 2001; Pringle, pers. com.; 2001, Turner 1993) and further work is needed to clarify the taxonomic status of the species within this genus. Dr. Pringle suggests that the name C. muehlenbergii has been misapplied to C. exaltatum, C. tenuiflorum, C. davyi, C. erythraea, C. pulchellum, and possibly three or four other species. Similarly he feels the synonym C. floribundum has often been applied to North American specimens of the naturalized C. tenuiflorum (Pringle, pers. com., 2001). Guilhem Mansion is currently studying the molecular systematics of the genus Centaurium on a worldwide basis. His preliminary results suggest it would be useful to recognize a ‘Centaurium muehlenbergii complex’ which includes C.
