Six-Week JUMPSTART KIT your road to a whole food plant-based life eat to live daily Dear Friend, Welcome to your Jumpstart!! This will be a life-changing experience for you if you play your cards right. If you’re like most of our community, you’re coming here with food addictions that you’ve never before recognized. You’re probably bringing baggage from years of yo-yo dieting. And if you’re like most of us, you’ve thought at some point that you might be broken – unable to change the habits that have gotten you where you are today. I want to start by telling you that YOU ARE NOT broken, and you’re NOT alone. There are millions of people who are RIGHT where you are, right now. I, myself, have been there too and I promise you, there is a fix. At eat to live daily, the way that we address weight loss is different than what you’re probably used to. See, as it turns out, the impulse to overeat comes from a very specific biological reaction to being undernourished. It may seem crazy, but many overweight people ARE undernourished because the standard diet is nutrient deficient. This is where we start because, in my book, there’s no way to grapple with the emotional and psychological aspects of weight loss until we’ve got the chemistry straightened out! But believe me, we’re going to cover it all! I, myself, started a plant-based lifestyle after years of yo-yo dieting. While I consider this to be the best treatment for food addiction, I will admit that the transition isn’t easy for everyone. I remember those beginning days, asking myself how I would be able to do this. I had vegan recipes piled high, hundreds of dollars in grocery expenses, and I didn’t know what to do with half of it when I got home from the grocery store. I needed help, but individual coaching was so expensive… But I’d read the literature and seen the documentaries… I knew that this was, by far, the healthiest way to live. Eventually, through a TON of trial and error, I made it work!! That personal experience of struggle is the reason that I eventually started this plant-based Jumpstart program. It’s a way to bridge the documentaries and the literature to a sustainable lifestyle. My hope for you is that you recognize what a life-changing opportunity this is in front of you, and that you go the distance with it. Can’t wait, Elisha Lee Copyright 2018 Eat to Live Daily The Breakdown (Look for clickable links throughout the document in blue) In this jumpstart kit, I provide you with everything you need to get started in this lifestyle. Here’s a breakdown: Section 1 - The basics to a whole food, plant-based lifestyle Section 2 – How to do it Section 3 - What to expect Section 4 – Your checklist of resources Section 5 - The ETLD Meal Plans Copyright 2018 Eat to Live Daily The Basics What is a whole-food, plant-based diet? Whether you’re just exploring this lifestyle for the first time or you’re a veteran of plant-based eating, it’s never a bad time to brush up on the basics. Let’s start off by just going through the foundations of a whole food, plant-based diet. Why is it so important for sustainable weight loss, and what makes this so different than other diets? Whole Foods Here’s the simplest way to explain it: Foods lose their nutritional value when we process them! This concept of “whole foods vs processed foods” really helps us understand why a calorie is not JUST calorie. So just dump everything you’ve been taught about calorie counting and point counting because, newsflash: Not all calories are equal!! Take the comparison of “seeds vs. margarine” for example: To make margarine, you start with a seed. First, a large portion of seeds are heated and pressed into an oil. The oil is then pushed through a battery of processing in order to hydrogenate, flavor, and color it, until it is the fluffy yellow substance in a tub that can live anywhere with practically an infinite shelf life, and not even insects will bother it. Now, the margarine began as a whole food (the seed (or soybean) which is incredibly packed with nutrients), but what we have in the end is a recipe for inflammation, fat storage, and hormone disruption. While a handful of seeds may have the same number of calories as margarine, in terms of nutritional value, there’s just no comparison. Seeds are packed with phytonutrients, essential fats, amino Copyright 2018 Eat to Live Daily acids, antioxidants, and they have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Although nuts and seeds are pretty calorie dense, if eaten the right way and in the right quantities, they’re an important part of maintaining a healthy body and a healthy weight! As I’m sure you know, margarine has NO nutritional value, whatsoever. What you have there is the remnants of the food, but not the food itself. It’s a processed, toxic cocktail of chemicals and unrecognizable fat substance that can’t be utilized by the body. So while the package may reference food sources which were once WHOLE (AKA, the seed)s , the nutrients have been processed OUT. Processed Foods make us fat and nutrient deficient! There are a number of reasons that we overeat; nutrient deficiency is one of them…. and believe me, there is a LOT of nutrient deficiency going on today! We live in an era where processed, nutrient deficient foods are everywhere. And when we live on nutrient-deficient foods, YOU GUESSED IT, we become nutrient deficient ourselves. There’s a solid chance that even if you have 100 pounds to lose, you’re nutrient deficient too. A nutrient deficiency can kick off a wide variety of health problems, obviously, but did you realize that weight gain is one of them? Here’s why… Your body knows when it’s short on nutrients and it will kick off a craving until your cells are satisfied. But unfortunately, because of the way our brains love calories, we’re perpetually trying to satisfy the cravings with the wrong foods, leaving us over weight and undernourished. Ever heard of PICA? It’s an eating disorder that involves consuming items that aren’t actually foods: dirt, rocks, paper, paint chips… I know, it sounds bizarre but it’s really a thing. You know what the first line of treatment is in most PICA cases? Testing for nutrient deficiency and then, duh, treating the deficiency!! These are people who are craving something because they’re MISSING SOMETHING. So next time you’re Copyright 2018 Eat to Live Daily craving a large bowl of ice cream, ask yourself what nutrient your body could actually be begging for. HINT: It’s a whole food. The good news… Now I’m hoping that at this point you’re having a MAJOR paradigm shift. This is the moment that, in case it hasn’t happened already, YOU REALIZE that this food business is IN YOUR CONTROL. I repeat: YOUR FOOD CRAVINGS AND YOUR ABILITY TO OVEREAT THE WRONG FOODS ALL DAY LONG: Yes… that’s in your control. You are hungry because your BODY IS HUNGRY. It needs nutrients. That is totally what this lifestyle is about. With this program, you are going to flood your body with nutrients. You’ll have more nutrients than you’ve probably ever had in your life, in fact. We’re going to get those cravings quieted down once and for all. Once we’ve gotten your cells in a happy place, we’ll be able to handle the other important components like self-talk, habit change, and motivation. But let me tell you, it’s impossible to conquer those things when you’re overfed and undernourished. Let’s take care of the first, and the rest will be doable! Is it for me? One of the most common narratives regarding weight loss is that YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU. Here’s the actual problem with that: 99% of diets fail. See, just because something makes you lose weight initially doesn’t mean it’s a sustainable fix. For instance, if you ate bacon, eggs, steak and cheese at every meal, you’d lose weight (you’d also lose weight by contracting Cholera or HIV, but I digress). It’s true that eliminating carbohydrates from the diet will cause drastic weight loss… and then predictably, a rebound of weight gain. It might be weeks later or maybe several months later, but you just can’t avoid it. WHY? Well my friend, because carbohydrates are the vehicle to many of our most precious and essential nutrients. Deprive yourself of carbohydrates and it’s a matter of time before your body goes into rebellion. Copyright 2018 Eat to Live Daily There is not a person on the planet that doesn’t benefit from eating nutrients. So to answer the question: Yes, this diet is for you. What is PLANT BASED? Ok moving on to part 2 of the “whole food, plant-based” formula: PLANT BASED. In short, we like things that grow from the Earth. Vegetables, fruit, beans, nuts, seeds, herbs, roots. Those are plant-based because they grow - we don’t have to kill anything to get what we need. An unprocessed, plant-based diet provides everything you need to reach a desirable weight and (most importantly) to thrive.
