9 Why I love Tifereth Israel Leslie Rosen When I was growing up in Cleveland, the synagogue was the center of my family’s life. My parents were officers and board members of the synagogue, as well as its many affiliate David K. Stein President organizations. My sister and I attended weekday Hebrew Ronald Solove First Vice President classes through high school, and we spent our summers Karl Rubin Second Vice President on the day camp staff through college and beyond. My Dr. Jan W. Lyddon Secretary friends and social life in high school revolved around USY, Stephen Waterman Treasurer an experience that I still credit today with the leadership Lawrence Cohen Men’s Club President skills and love for Judaism that have played such a big role Julie Wasserstrom Sisterhood President in who I am. It seemed that every conversation at the dinner table in my childhood home revolved around something having to Sari Goldson USY President do with the synagogue. However, my 35-year career as a first-grade teacher took over my Rabbi Alex Braver energy, my brainpower, my time, etc. Months would pass between visits to the [email protected] | ext. 120 synagogue and my observance took second place to my commitment to my students. Rabbi Emeritus Harold Berman [email protected] | ext. 108 My father passed away in 2008. While I had retired from teaching, I still spent very little time at the synagogue. I felt it was the least I could do to honor his commitment to Jewish life. A beautiful thing happened. I have read Torah at least once a year since. I frequently attend evening minyan.
