Aus Sachsen und Brandenburg waren bisher nur ältere Nachweise bekannt. Aufgrund aktueller Funde aus den Jahren 1997 und 1998 wird der ökologische Typ der Art erörtert und ihr Häufigkeitsstatus diskutiert. Summary Philaeus chrysops (P o d a , 1761) in Saxony and Brandenburg (Araneae, Salticidae).- The Jumping Spider Philaeus chrysops (Poda, 1761) seems to be rare in Middle Europe. Until now only a few records were known from Saxony and Brandenburg. Based on new records in 1997 and 1998, the ecological type and abundance of this species are discussed. Einleitung Die Springspinne Philaeus chrysops ist wegen ihrer auffälligen Färbung und Zeichnung kaum mit einer an deren Spinnenart zu verwechseln (vgl. Abb. 1 und 2 so wie Bellmann 1992: 174). In Mitteleuropa wurde die Art bislang nur sporadisch gefunden, so daß sie hier als vielerorts fehlend bzw. sehr selten und zudem bestands gefährdet angesehen wird. -

Abstract: In this study we present a database of spiders described and registered from the Neotropical region between 1757 and 2008. Results are focused on the diversity of the group in the State of São Paulo, compared to other Brazilian states. Data was compiled from over 25,000 records, published in scientific papers dealing with Neotropical fauna. These records enabled the evaluation of the current distribution of the species, the definition of collection gaps and priority biomes, and even future areas of endemism for Brazil. A total of 875 species, distributed in 50 families, have been described from the State of São Paulo. -

In total, the character matrix includes 47 taxa: 35 linyphiids representing the currently used subfamilies of Linyphiidae (Stemonyphantinae, Mynogleninae, Erigoninae, and Linyphiinae (Micronetini plus Linyphiini)) and 12 outgroup species representing nine araneoid families (Pimoidae, Theridiidae, Nesticidae, Synotaxidae, Cyatholipidae, Mysmenidae, Theridiosomatidae, Tetragnathidae, and Araneidae). The morphological characters include those used in recent studies of linyphiid phylogenetics, covering both genitalic and somatic morphology. Different sequence alignments and analytical methods produce different cladistic hypotheses. This is the first detailed contribution on the arachnid fauna from heated greenhouses in the Botanical Garden of the P.J. Šafárik University in Košice (Slovakia). Over ten years 62 spider taxa in 21 families were found. Two spiders, Mermessus trilobatus (Emerton, 1882) and Hasarius adansoni (Audouin, 1826), were recorded in Slovakia for the first time. Another interesting record was the cellar spider Hoplopholcus sp. and a new locality for the exotic spiders Coleosoma floridanum Banks, 1900 and Triaeris stenaspis Simon, 1891 was discovered. Additionally, a short survey of other arachnids (except Acari) was done. A single specimen of a provisionally identifiable palpigrade species (cf. Eukoenenia florenciae), one harvestmen species, Opilio canestrinii (Thorell, 1876), and four pseudoscorpion species were recorded. The rare pseudoscorpion species Chthonius ressli Beier, 1956 was collected for the second time in Slovakia. Spinnentiere aus Warmhäusern des Botanischen Gartens der PJ Šafárik Universität in Košice, Slowakei (Arachnida: Araneae, Opiliones, Palpigradi, Pseudoscorpiones). Hiermit wird der erste umfangreiche Beitrag zur Spinnentierfauna des Botanischen Gartens der P.J. Šafárik Universität in Košice (Slowakei) präsentiert. Während zehn Jahren wurden 62 Spinnentaxa aus 21 Familien nachgewiesen. Zwei Spinnenarten, Mermessus trilobatus (Emerton, 1882) und Hasarius adansoni (Audouin, 1826), werden erst- mals für die Slowakei gemeldet. -

ARTÍCULO: NEW EXTANT AND FOSSIL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SPIDER RECORDS, WITH TWO NEW SYNONYMIES AND COMMENTS ON TAPHONOMIC BIAS OF AMBER PRESERVATION David Penney Abstract: A collection of 23 identifiable extant spider species from the Dominican Republic revealed eight (= 35%) new species records for the country and five (= 22%) for the island of Hispaniola. The collection includes the first record of the family Prodidomidae from Hispaniola. Phantyna guanica (Gertsch, 1946) is identified as a junior synonym of Emblyna altamira (Gertsch & Davis, 1942) (Dictynidae) and Ceraticelus solitarius Bryant, 1948 is identified as a junior synonym of C. paludigenus Crosby & Bishop, 1925 (Linyphiidae). SAARISTO Zoological Museum, Centre for Biodiversity University of Turku,FIN-20014 Turku FINLAND [micsaa@utu.fi ] Abstract. - This paper describes 8 new genera, namely Argyrodella (type species Argyrodes pusillus Saaristo, 1978), Bardala (type species Achearanea labarda Roberts, 1982), Nanume (type species Theridion naneum Roberts, 1983), Robertia (type species Theridion braueri (Simon, 1898), Selimus (type species Theridion placens Blackwall, 1877), Sesato (type species Sesato setosa n. sp.), Spinembolia (type species Theridion clabnum Roberts, 1978), and Stoda (type species Theridion libudum Roberts, 1978) and one new species (Sesato setosa n. sp.). The following new combinations are also presented: Phycosoma spundana (Roberts, 1978) n. comb., Argyrodella pusillus (Saaristo, 1978) n. comb., Rhomphaea recurvatus (Saaristo, 1978) n. comb., Rhomphaea barycephalus (Roberts, 1983) n. comb., Bardala labarda (Roberts, 1982) n. comb., Moneta coercervus (Roberts, 1978) n. comb., Nanume naneum (Roberts, 1983) n. comb., Parasteatoda mundula (L. Koch, 1872) n. comb., Robertia braueri (Simon, 1898). n. comb., Selimus placens (Blackwall, 1877) n. comb., Sesato setosa n. gen, n. sp., Spinembolia clabnum (Roberts, 1978) n. comb., and Stoda libudum (Roberts, 1978) n. comb.. Also the opposite sex of four species are described for the fi rst time, namely females of Phycosoma spundana (Roberts, 1978) and P. menustya (Roberts, 1983) and males of Spinembolia clabnum (Roberts, 1978) and Stoda libudum (Roberts, 1978). It is the southernmost edge of the Strážovské vrchy Mountains (Mts) (48°55ʹ46ʹʹN; 18°26ʹ05ʹʹE), separated from the central massif by the river ow Nitrica. is area is considerably inuenced by human activity: In the past, it had massive deforestation and agricultural use (mainly as pasture), recently, it is dominated by mining activities (several quarries). e whole area is out of the territo- rial protection, with the exception of the little Nature reserve Veľký vrch, surrounded by two quarries, and the le one is more or less abandoned. In the past, this area was used mainly for grazing, but this is currently very limited. Our research site is an aban- doned pasture; therefore, ecological succession is carried out intensively here. Forgot- ten aer-utility areas (abandoned quarries, pastures, industrial sites) are usually con- sidered to be ‘sterile’ and unattractive for zoological research, but this may not always correspond to reality. Even in our research site, we have carried out several rare and surprising ndings. We would like to present the results of our research in this paper. It is sad, but a large amount of abandoned pastures is scattered throughout Slova- kia. -

Prey composition and the hunting behaviour of the jumping spider, Menemerus semilimbatus, which inhabits stone walls was studied. Less than 10% of the specimens in the population studied were observed feeding. Adult males fed significantly less frequently than adult females and juveniles. Diptera, the dominant prey group, accounted for more than 70% of all prey consumed. No other single prey type was present in significant numbers. M. semilimbatus adopts a specialized predatory behaviour towards flies that is unusual for salticids. This behaviour depends on how the fly is orientated towards the spider. If the fly is facing away from the spider, M. semilimbatus approaches it directly. When the fly is facing the spider, M. semilimbatus keeps its distance and encircles it until the prey is facing away from the spider. Only then, will the spider start to approach the fly directly. Gillespie' Department of Entomology, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822' USA ABSTRACT The Hawaiian happy-face spider Theridion grallator,Simon is a smalll spider, endemic to Hawaii, where it is found under leaves in the wet and mesic forests . The abdomen is pale, translucent yellow, but variable amounts of red, black or white pigment may be superimposed on this to generate a host of patterned morphs . The translucence of the abdomen may enhance crypsis against predators searching the underside of leaves ; the variability in the superimposed pattern may serve to counteract the development of a search image by the predator . The present study documents plasticity in base coloration, which can changee rapidly and markedly following ingestion of certain types of prey . This may be merely a consequence of abdominal translucence . But it is interesting to note that it adds a whole new dimension to the color polymorphism of the species . INTRODUCTION Color change in animals is a widespread phenomenon . It is generally associated with a change in physiological state . This in turn may be induced by ontogenetic or environmental changes, or stress . In spiders, color change is known to occur under a variety of circumstances . Ontogenetic modifictions are widespread, with the adult coloration being attained in the final molt (Bonnet 1933; Homann 1946; Millot 1949). More rapid changes in color pattern have been noted in spiders of the family Araneidae, which accumulate guanine beneath the cuticle during periods of starvation, thereby developing a pattern of opaque white blotches over the abdomen (Foelix 1979) .
