About Nyandarua County Government

he mission of Nyandarua County Government is to provide an enabling social, eco- Tnomic and political environment for the holistic transformation of all its citizens. The County’s vision is to be a productive, prosperous, secure and newly-industrialized County that adds value to its citizens and competes effectively in the 21st century.

Located North-West of the former , Nyandarua is an estimated 150 kilo- metres away from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. Nyandarua has high growth prospects sup- ported by a business-friendly County Government, vibrant human capital, coupled with diverse, rare and abundant natural resources. The County is at the heart of the Mt. Kenya tourism circuit, linking tourists headed to the wider Mt. Kenya region. The current Gov- ernor, His Excellency Francis Kimemia, was elected the second head of the County in the 2017 General Elections.

Governor Kimemia also chairs the Central Region Economic Bloc (CEREB), whose pri- mary objective is leveraging on economies of scale in undertaking joint development projects and activities for its 10 member counties: Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Kiambu and Nakuru. Mt. Kenya region is endowed with enormous resources, including a youthful and vibrant population driving innovation and productivity. It also has rich climatic conditions which enable production of a variety of crops critical for national and international markets, among other resources. The region is also strategically placed close to critical markets of the country and wider region. The County boss has been heading the bloc since 2017.

iv #GOVKIMEMIADELIVERS Kipipiri edition July 1 st , 2020 - June 30 th , 2021 MESSAGE FROM HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR We have a rendezvous with destiny he people of Nyandarua spoke loudly in August 2017 when they Toverwhelmingly elected me as their second Governor. Our vision is to be a productive, prosperous, secure and newly-industrialized County that adds value to its citizens and competes effectively in the 21st century. It is clear in my mind that the transformation of the lives of our people to sustainable levels of development will only be possible when we pro- vide an enabling social, economic and political environment. Today, I reiterate my determination and commitment to fully operationalize my Manifesto, which is based on six key pillars: 1. Good Governance (Peace, Security, Democracy, and Rule of law); 2. Social Sector Development (Education, Health, Culture, Rights, Social Dimension and Services); 3. Infrastructure Development (Water, Irrigation, Sewerage, Energy, Transport and Communication, ICT, Sports, Tourism, and Environment); 4.Financial and Trade Services and Entrepreneurship Development; 5. Agriculture Development, Environmental Conservation; and 6. Investments and Industrialization. I am pleased to note that the great people of Nyandarua are fully engaged in matters that affect their destiny in tandem with the Constitution and, together, we are progressively implementing our second County Integrated Development Plan (2018-2022), which flows from my manifesto and feedback received through rigorous public participation. Due to limited financial resources, roll-out of flagship projects has been on a gradual basis rather than in one big bang. This is the reason we have been active at the Council of Governors – where I chair the Water, Forestry and Natural Resources Management committee - and other internal and external fora to promote our interests. My administration is also working closely with His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, who not only chose to become Nyandarua’s Governor Number One, but has also been actively supporting our County’s transforma- tion from the least-developed and poorest per capita in the former Central Province. Make no mistake: We cannot play the card of marginalization forever. We have a rendezvous with destiny. Let us keep rising and marching forward. Wherever you are, please let me know how best my Government can serve you and your community (kindly see back page for details on our complaints and compliments system). Stay safe!

This follows public participation spearheaded by a multi-sectoral disaster committee, through which an estimated 2,000 stake- holders unanimously consented to the County Government’s inter- vention. Governor Kimemia, who led the County Government’s initial hu- manitarian response to the infer- no, this afternoon pledged KShs.4 million to support the labour-in- tensive construction so as to fully engage locals in the works. The Governor committed to ex- pand the market in Financial Year 2021/2022. And while donating 1,300 masks, the County boss urged all Nyandarua residents to adhere to Ministry of Health protocols against COVID-19. He afterwards inspected Mikeu Dispensary, where he directed the contractor to speed up works for Wanjiku’s benefit. Other projects inspected includ- ed Number Ithatu Bridge, which links Kianjogu to Geta town; and Mwakama Bridge, which links Mikeu village to Geta town.

is Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia ended their nightmare by commissioning Kimathi Dis- Hpensary which, until 2011, had served as a community kindergarten. Following rigorous public participation, the kindergarten was relocated to an adjacent primary school, with Kipipiri Constituency Development Fund supporting renovation works for the dispensary to the tune of KShs. 900,000/-. The resources were crucial, but not sufficient to complete the project. With the advent of devolution in 2013, the County Government took up the project as it initiated out- reach health services across Nyandarua. In his first year in office, Governor Kimemia initiated completion works at KShs. 3 million. Equipping was done at KShs. 1.5 million, finally readying the facility for use. “This is a major boost not only for our village, but also its environs,” says a visibly relieved Dorcas Wanjiru. Recounting near-death experiences faced by herself and other Kimathi villagers, Wanjiru believes better days now lie ahead. “None of us, young or old, male or female, should die seeking to either give or preserve life,” she avers. On his part, the Governor says the dispensary is only one of his ongoing commitments to fulfill pledges made in his Manifesto for all County residents.

Mburu joined Nyahururu Boys High School in 2017 under the sponsorship of a politician, who later abandoned him. His plight caught Governor Kimemia’s attention, who cleared his Form Three fees and supported him through to Form Four, where he attained mean grade B with 66 points in his Kenya Certif- icate for Secondary Education (KCSE) examina- tions. The County head commited to continue support- ing him by buying him a laptop as he undertakes a short course in graphics design before joining Kenyatta University, where he will pursue a first degree in Information Technology later this year.
