End of Season Pupil Reviews Hockey, Netball, Swimming and Football End of season pupil reviews Hockey, netball, swimming and football Hockey 2019-20 Season Review Sport Teams P W D L Win Ratio Hockey 13 106 54 17 35 50.9% 1st XI Hockey Team Bromley High School 1st team hockey have had a progressive season, setting us up well for next year. As a team we have scored 32 goals and achieved a goal difference of 17, with ambitions to improve in the future. We began the season with intense pre-season training to boost our fitness in preparation for the early matches lined up. On the first day of school, we played JAGS who are credited for being an aggressive team. Thanks to Amelie Allen in year 10 for stepping up and scoring one of our goals along with Alice Prentice. We played well as a team despite not having played together for very long, and this put us in positive mindsets for the rest of the season as we entered competitions. The County Cup was a learning experience for us having unfortunately only reached the county place semi-finals. Despite winning the first match against Colfe’s 1-0, with a goal from Pippa George, we drew the next three matches 0-0 against Sevenoaks, St Edmunds and Tunbridge Wells. We struggled to score and were put under constant pressure by our opposition but did well to not concede any. We then played Sir Roger Manwood’s and Kent College Pembury where we lost both 1-0. Our legs were tired after the long day, but we kept our motivation up for the next tournament; the GDST hockey tournament. Having won this tournament in the 2017, and not being able to enter in 2018 because of regionals, we were keen to regain our title this season. We started with a close game against Nottingham High, unfortunately losing 2-1 but with a great goal from Alice Prentice. Next we played Sheffield High and won 5-1, with 2 goals from Georgia Gray from short corners, 2 from Pippa George and another from Alice Prentice. It was an attacking game for us and excited us for our next match against Oxford High. Disappointingly, we lost this 1-0 so finished our day 5th overall. However, we achieved our aim of scoring more goals and being more aggressive in the D, particularly shown in our match against Sheffield. During October half-term, we went on tour to Holland. We were extremely successful, smashing local Dutch teams, 6-1, 9-1 and 4-2. Honey Watson achieved player of the tournament and had a tremendous three games, scoring 7 goals throughout the tour. We even managed to squeeze in a pro-led training session, focusing on goal-scoring variation, and one-on-one skills. We are very thankful to Mr Evans and Miss Garlick for the incredible work they put into organising such a fantastic tour. We continued our successive streak and won our next game against Langley Park 3-0. Imogen Gush scored two fantastic deflections and Isobel Aitken Dyte also scored a goal from a tricky angle. Recently, we played Streatham and Clapham and were disappointed with a 1-0 loss, despite maintaining possession well and pressuring them early. However, we were pumped up for our last match of the season against JAGs. We lost 2-1, with a great goal from Milly Frankis on a short corner, but we're proud of our efforts over the entire season. Indoor hockey this year has been equally as rewarding. We began our indoor season with a friendly tournament held at Sutton valence school. We achieved a 5-0 win against the host team and lost 3-1 against Kent College and a tough 1-0 loss against Sevenoaks. We progressed as a team into the County indoor tournament. We had a challenging but enjoyable day in Canterbury. Our first match was against St Lawrence, which we lost 6-0. It was a tough warm-up game but despite the result, we were happy with the team effort and managed to cope well under pressure. Our next game was against Kings school, which we unfortunately lost 1-0. However, we had a couple of strong attacking chances and were unlucky with a couple of shots just wide of the goal. We then played Kent College Canterbury and lost 2-1 but we supported each other well in this match and were fine-tuning our defensive press by this point. The next game for us was against Sutton Valence which we won 3-0, with goals from Sofie Williams, Imogen Gush and Pippa George. Imogen had great positioning on the goal post and managed to deflect a fast ball coming in. Sofie also scored a great goal with a strong drag from a very tight angle. Our final game of the round robin was against Sevenoaks. We were extremely happy to finish with a 4-2 win with three goals from Pippa George and one from Sofie Williams. Yet again Sofie managed to score with a strong drag from an obscure angle. Alex Georgiadis and Millie Frankis played very well in defence and kept calm by keeping the ball despite the tough half- court press Sevenoaks played. After this, we had to play Kent College Canterbury again in the 3rd / 4th play-offs. We put out a strong fight until the final whistle but ended up with a 2-0 loss. We were very tired by this point and our legs were exhausted, especially with a couple of back-to-back games. Lucy Robinson had a great day as goalkeeper and made some brilliant saves throughout the tournament, particularly on the many short corners we had to defend against. Everyone put in a great effort throughout the day and we played very well as a team by supporting each other both attacking and defending. Our recent outdoor match against JAGs was the last school match for the year 13s, who have been committed to Bromley High hockey for 7 years. Georgia Gray has been a fantastic captain for the 1st team this season and has driven the team forward throughout, as well as being a great team player Georgia Gray & Pippa George, 1st XI Hockey Captain’s Playe Wo Draw Los Goals Goals Goals d n n t For Against Difference 16 6 4 6 32 15 17 U’16 Hockey Team This season has been very successful for the U’16 hockey team, in which we qualified for the Outdoor National Finals for the first time in our school’s history and placed 3rd overall. This was an outstanding achievement and we are all very proud of what we have accomplished. The year started off well, winning our first game against JAGS 2-1, the goals scored by Honey Watson and Jasmine Mir, who were supported throughout by Amelie Allen. This squad was made up of year 11 girls as well as some talented and determined year 10s, who contributed massively to our successes. Winning against JAGS gave us confidence in starting the new season, especially with County qualifiers around the corner. At Kent County qualifiers the team fought hard, winning 6 out of 8 of our matches – both losses to Sevenoaks school 0-1 (‘Player of the Match’ was Amelie Allen in the first match and Alice Gigney in the second). Against St Dunstan’s College the team won 6-0 thanks to the teamwork shown by all, as well as the refined technique of players such as Amelie Allen, Poppy Merrick, Sasha Kelbrick and Honey Watson. The goals were scored by Poppy – who scored a hat trick and was named ‘Player of the Match’ – and Amelie, Honey and Sophia Ouarbya. After that we played King’s Rochester, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was me (Aria Sharma), followed by a victory over Colfe’s School 1-0 (scored by Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was Honey) and a win against Sutton Valence 3-1 (scored by Poppy, Honey and Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was Sasha). After this we qualified for Kent finals, winning against Cranbrook School 1-0 (scored by Honey and the ‘Player of the Match’ was Poppy) and securing a victory over Sutton Valence again, with a score of 1-0 – scored by Amelie. It was a tough day and we faced all our challenges head-on, showing team spirit and dedication. Despite this amazing performance, it was not enough to initially qualify for Regionals - however because we came 3rd we were asked to step up and compete in Regionals. This was an exciting opportunity to showcase the capability and perseverance of our squad. We began to train harder, as Regionals was only a month away. At Regionals our first match was against Lincoln Minster School, we started the day off strong winning 6-0. Poppy Merrick played phenomenally, scoring a hat trick and she was supported by Amelie Allen, who scored two goals, as well as Sophia Ouarbya who scored one goal. In this match we were able to secure many short corners, showing our skill around the goal and played aggressively to secure the fantastic result. The next match was against Coopers and proved to be a great success for our team. We won 4-0 with Amelie, Poppy and Sophia scoring the goals – two goals and one each respectively. Deflections were pulled off skilfully and the hard work of the entire team allowed us to win this game. Our third match was against Bedford Girls, in which we scored 4 goals and conceded none.
