1st XI Hockey Team

Bromley High School 1st team hockey have had a progressive season, setting us up well for next year. As a team we have scored 32 goals and achieved a goal difference of 17, with ambitions to improve in the future. We began the season with intense pre-season training to boost our fitness in preparation for the early matches lined up. On the first day of school, we played JAGS who are credited for being an aggressive team. Thanks to Amelie Allen in year 10 for stepping up and scoring one of our goals along with Alice Prentice. We played well as a team despite not having played together for very long, and this put us in positive mindsets for the rest of the season as we entered competitions.

The County Cup was a learning experience for us having unfortunately only reached the county place semi-finals. Despite winning the first match against Colfe’s 1-0, with a goal from Pippa George, we drew the next three matches 0-0 against Sevenoaks, St Edmunds and Tunbridge Wells. We struggled to score and were put under constant pressure by our opposition but did well to not concede any. We then played Sir Roger Manwood’s and Kent College Pembury where we lost both 1-0. Our legs were tired after the long day, but we kept our motivation up for the next tournament; the GDST hockey tournament. Having won this tournament in the 2017, and not being able to enter in 2018 because of regionals, we were keen to regain our title this season. We started with a close game against Nottingham High, unfortunately losing 2-1 but with a great goal from Alice Prentice. Next we played Sheffield High and won 5-1, with 2 goals from Georgia Gray from short corners, 2 from Pippa George and another from Alice Prentice. It was an attacking game for us and excited us for our next match against Oxford High. Disappointingly, we lost this 1-0 so finished our day 5th overall. However, we achieved our aim of scoring more goals and being more aggressive in the D, particularly shown in our match against Sheffield.

During October half-term, we went on tour to Holland. We were extremely successful, smashing local Dutch teams, 6-1, 9-1 and 4-2. Honey Watson achieved player of the tournament and had a tremendous three games, scoring 7 goals throughout the tour. We even managed to squeeze in a pro-led training session, focusing on goal-scoring variation, and one-on-one skills. We are very thankful to Mr Evans and Miss Garlick for the incredible work they put into organising such a fantastic tour.

We continued our successive streak and won our next game against Langley Park 3-0. Imogen Gush scored two fantastic deflections and Isobel Aitken Dyte also scored a goal from a tricky angle. Recently, we played Streatham and Clapham and were disappointed with a 1-0 loss, despite maintaining possession well and pressuring them early. However, we were pumped up for our last match of the season against JAGs. We lost 2-1, with a great goal from Milly Frankis on a short corner, but we're proud of our efforts over the entire season. Indoor hockey this year has been equally as rewarding. We began our indoor season with a friendly tournament held at Sutton valence school. We achieved a 5-0 win against the host team and lost 3-1 against Kent College and a tough 1-0 loss against Sevenoaks. We progressed as a team into the County indoor tournament. We had a challenging but enjoyable day in Canterbury. Our first match was against St Lawrence, which we lost 6-0. It was a tough warm-up game but despite the result, we were happy with the team effort and managed to cope well under pressure. Our next game was against Kings school, which we unfortunately lost 1-0. However, we had a couple of strong attacking chances and were unlucky with a couple of shots just wide of the goal. We then played Kent College Canterbury and lost 2-1 but we supported each other well in this match and were fine-tuning our defensive press by this point. The next game for us was against Sutton Valence which we won 3-0, with goals from Sofie Williams, Imogen Gush and Pippa George. Imogen had great positioning on the goal post and managed to deflect a fast ball coming in. Sofie also scored a great goal with a strong drag from a very tight angle. Our final game of the round robin was against Sevenoaks. We were extremely happy to finish with a 4-2 win with three goals from Pippa George and one from Sofie Williams. Yet again Sofie managed to score with a strong drag from an obscure angle. Alex Georgiadis and Millie Frankis played very well in defence and kept calm by keeping the ball despite the tough half- court press Sevenoaks played. After this, we had to play Kent College Canterbury again in the 3rd / 4th play-offs. We put out a strong fight until the final whistle but ended up with a 2-0 loss. We were very tired by this point and our legs were exhausted, especially with a couple of back-to-back games. Lucy Robinson had a great day as goalkeeper and made some brilliant saves throughout the tournament, particularly on the many short corners we had to defend against. Everyone put in a great effort throughout the day and we played very well as a team by supporting each other both attacking and defending. Our recent outdoor match against JAGs was the last school match for the year 13s, who have been committed to High hockey for 7 years. Georgia Gray has been a fantastic captain for the 1st team this season and has driven the team forward throughout, as well as being a great team player

U’16 Hockey Team

This season has been very successful for the U’16 hockey team, in which we qualified for the Outdoor National Finals for the first time in our school’s history and placed 3rd overall. This was an outstanding achievement and we are all very proud of what we have accomplished.

The year started off well, winning our first game against JAGS 2-1, the goals scored by Honey Watson and Jasmine Mir, who were supported throughout by Amelie Allen. This squad was made up of year 11 girls as well as some talented and determined year 10s, who contributed massively to our successes. Winning against JAGS gave us confidence in starting the new season, especially with County qualifiers around the corner.

At Kent County qualifiers the team fought hard, winning 6 out of 8 of our matches – both losses to Sevenoaks school 0-1 (‘Player of the Match’ was Amelie Allen in the first match and Alice Gigney in the second). Against St Dunstan’s College the team won 6-0 thanks to the teamwork shown by all, as well as the refined technique of players such as Amelie Allen, Poppy Merrick, Sasha Kelbrick and Honey Watson. The goals were scored by Poppy – who scored a hat trick and was named ‘Player of the Match’ – and Amelie, Honey and Sophia Ouarbya. After that we played King’s Rochester, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was me (Aria Sharma), followed by a victory over Colfe’s School 1-0 (scored by Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was Honey) and a win against Sutton Valence 3-1 (scored by Poppy, Honey and Amelie, ‘Player of the Match’ was Sasha). After this we qualified for Kent finals, winning against Cranbrook School 1-0 (scored by Honey and the ‘Player of the Match’ was Poppy) and securing a victory over Sutton Valence again, with a score of 1-0 – scored by Amelie. It was a tough day and we faced all our challenges head-on, showing team spirit and dedication. Despite this amazing performance, it was not enough to initially qualify for Regionals - however because we came 3rd we were asked to step up and compete in Regionals. This was an exciting opportunity to showcase the capability and perseverance of our squad. We began to train harder, as Regionals was only a month away.

At Regionals our first match was against Lincoln Minster School, we started the day off strong winning 6-0. Poppy Merrick played phenomenally, scoring a hat trick and she was supported by Amelie Allen, who scored two goals, as well as Sophia Ouarbya who scored one goal. In this match we were able to secure many short corners, showing our skill around the goal and played aggressively to secure the fantastic result. The next match was against Coopers and proved to be a great success for our team. We won 4-0 with Amelie, Poppy and Sophia scoring the goals – two goals and one each respectively. Deflections were pulled off skilfully and the hard work of the entire team allowed us to win this game. Our third match was against Bedford Girls, in which we scored 4 goals and conceded none. The coordination between Honey Watson and Amelie Allen allowed Honey to score two goals, Amelie to score one goal and Sophia to score one goal. The final match of the day was an excellent one to finish on, where we played Bourne Grammar School. We won 3-0, having conceded no goals all day thanks to the brilliance of our two goalkeepers Thea Whatling and Rita Huang. Amelie scored another two goals and Honey scored one, bringing our total for the tournament to an outstanding 17 goals – 7 of which were scored by Amelie!

We had a friendly match in between Regionals and Regional Finals against Colfe’s which we won 7-0, scored by Olivia Carr, Honey Watson, Amelie Allen, two by Sophia Ouarbya and two by Sasha Kelbrick – who was subsequently named ‘Player of the Match’. In this game we were able to practise our short corners and set plays before the finals.

The Regional final was a thrilling experience, as it would decide whether we would qualify for Nationals. Our first match against Haileybury proved to be a challenge. Our team worked efficiently together, and the game ended as a draw, 0-0. Our second game was a tense, close match, unfortunately, ending 0-1. We were able to learn from this game and consolidate our knowledge for our final game against Tonbridge Grammar. We used teamwork and clear communication to score two goals by Honey and Sasha, conceding none – winning 2-0. Our goalkeepers, Thea and Rita, worked tirelessly throughout the day to help us qualify for the National Finals, as well as the skill of our attackers and the pressure applied by our defence and midfield. We fought hard against the best teams in the East of England and were pleased with our overall performance – very much anticipating the arrival of National Finals.

In the holidays, Mr Evans organised extra training sessions to prepare us for Nationals as we knew we would be competing the best in the country. We also played a few extra matches in preparation for Nationals. Our first one was against Langley Park School for Girls, winning 7-0. The goals were scored by Sasha Davey, Olivia Carr, Honey Watson and two each by Amelie Allen and Sophia Ouarbya with Alice Gigney being named ‘Player of the Match’. We then played against Streatham and Clapham High School, winning 8-0. Sasha scored one goal, Amelie and Sophia scored two goals each and Honey scored a hat trick. We also played against JAGS and drew 2-2, with Amelie and Sasha scoring our goals. This game was particularly helpful in our preparation as we learned to try different tactics depending on the team’s style of defence.

National Finals was a truly amazing experience. The team travelled up to Reading the night before so we could be refreshed and ready the next day. We won our first match against Priorsfield 2-0, with a great deflection by Sofia and a goal by Amelie. Defensively, we worked extremely hard, with dynamic tackles from players such as Alice and Susannah, as well as fantastic coordination from our attackers Poppy and Honey. Our second match was against Abbotsholme and we won 2-0, both goals scored by Amelie. Sasha played well and supported the team effectively in her central position. Jasmine also provided crucial assistance in landing our second goal. Truro High were the third team we played, and the match proved to be a challenge - they managed to win a narrow victory - the final score was 0-1 to Truro. In this game our defence worked very hard, supported throughout by the whole team. Despite this minor setback and the cold conditions, our great attitude led us to win our next match against King Ecgbert’s 4-0. All the goals were scored by Amelie, one of which was an impressive and very skilful reverse stick hit. We then had playoffs for 3rd and 4th place against Cokethorpe. This was a tight game, ending in 1-1, the only goal scored by Amelie. As it was a draw, the game came down to penalty strokes, where the teams nominate 5 players to alternate taking a shot at the opposition goalkeeper. Each team have 5 opportunities to score but we only needed 4, thanks to two outstanding saves by Rita in a high-pressure situation as well as the successful strokes by Sasha, Amelie, Alice and Olivia. Amelie achieved ‘top goal scorer’ of the tournament in the U’16 category, scoring an amazing eight goals. We also conceded the least goals in the tournament, showing the skill of our defence and our incredible goalkeepers Thea and Rita.

The most memorable moments this season were the penalty flicks at Nationals. Everyone was nervous and we were ecstatic when we won. We also have the memories of our photo shoot at Nationals as well as the behind-the-scenes fun the team had. Placing 3rd at Nationals is the highlight of the season!

The whole team would like to thank Mr Evans for his dedication to our squad, Miss Garlick and Mrs Clemens for supporting us as well as Mrs Drew who came to Reading on the day. Many parents also came out to show support, elevating our levels of team spirit and excitement. This season has been one of intense match play, frequent training sessions, celebratory McDonalds and most importantly teamwork and fun. Everyone left the National Finals with a huge smile on their face, knowing that we had worked extremely hard and could not be prouder to have worked with each other.

U’15 Hockey Team

The 2019/2020 season was incredible for the U15s with an impressive 10 wins from the 14 games played throughout the season (plus x 3 losses & x 1 draw).

Our friendly pre-season warm-up match against Croydon High was a tight win with just one goal from either side allowing us to take home our first victory. Fresh from that we started the session properly and welcomed Sophie Kerr, Amy McWilliams and Mia Pearlgood to the team. With little training behind us we headed to Crystal Palace for the GDST Cup. We made a strong start to the day winning our first match vs Sydenham High (5-1) (Pilcher (2), Meers, Ouarbya, Amelie). A few errors during our second match to Streatham & Clapham High cost us the game (0-3). However, after a team talk from Mr Butler, we found our feet again to put in a solid performance for our final game to win against Blackheath High (3-0) (Allen, Ouarbya (2)). Kirstie’s top of the D goal during the Sydenham High match was the highlight of the day and well done to Sofia Ouarbya for scoring the most goals of the day for BHS.

A friendly match the following week at St Dunstan’s gave us another confidence boast as we walked away with an easy 5-0 victory (Allen (3), Ouarbya, Kerr). The team was now putting into practice all the coaching tips from Mr Butler and the results of our lunch time practice sessions showed as we dominated the Colfe’s Invitational Hockey tournament with a mighty 20 goals scored and zero conceded during the 4 matches against Kingsdale Foundation School, Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School and x 3 teams from Colfe’s. We smashed our way through the pool stage winning our matches 3-0, 10-0 and 2-0. Evie, Charlotte, Sofia E and Mia made it look easy with their defending as we proved to be the much stronger team in all matches. Rita, our goalkeeper, was almost redundant! We reached the semi-finals comfortably and a place in the final against Colfe’s A's. We walked away with the winners’ medals after a 2-0 finish.

A few days later we faced our biggest nemesis: Alleyn’s School. With an intimidating reputation of being hard to beat we faced them at home, for what was our ‘match of the season’. Both teams wanted the win and both teams fought hard throughout the match. Rita was on fire defending attempted goals from their strong forwards. This game was our most physical and exciting match of the season and although we came out of it with a 1-1 draw (Allen) we all felt incredibly proud of ourselves (as did Mr Evans!).

The Christmas break saw us lose some momentum to our play as we stumbled into our low part of the season. We failed to avoid a slow start during an away match at James Allen’s Girls School. Their press proved too strong for us leaving us a little open at the back and they took the game from us with them winning 3-1. Special mention to Olivia for stepping into the keeper’s kit in Rita’s absence. Our next loss came a week later against Blackheath High School 1-3.

This season has shown that Evie Prentice and Charlotte Bruce are defenders to watch. Natural sportswomen Saskia Turner and Niamh Egan showed their versatility adapting to whatever was needed of them on the pitch. The speed and agility of Hannah Clark and Lily Meers created many opportunities for our forwards in the D and Olivia Yetzes and Amy McWilliams determination was an asset to the team. And covering as much of the astro as they possibly can Sofia Ouarbya and Kirstie Pilcher’s performances throughout the season show that they will no doubt be integral members of the U16s team next year.

Special thanks to Mr Butler for his support, excellent coaching tips and fun games during our lunch time training sessions and to Mr Evans for all the additional support.

This year our team has worked together well together. We have had strong communication and were encouraging to everyone in the team. This year we have had a lot of challenging matches however, we have also had many successes.

This year we have won 3 matches lost 4 and drawn 2. In all the matches whatever the outcome we kept our heads high and always tried to keep a PMA. Ms Crawford has taught us a lot this year not as just players and improving our play but how to work well as a team and we are very thankful to her for all the effort she has put in with us. I think that overall this year we have improved immensely with our hockey and had a lot of fun.

The under 13 A team started the hockey season off with high hopes after winning are first match to Croydon High School 7-0. We then entered the national cup matches but we unfortunately lost the first round to Kent College Pembury. But this loss did not knock the team’s confidence as we then went forward to the county cup and beat Sir Rodger Manwood’s School 1-0 and Ashford School 2-0. In every single match we played this season the team gave 110% even if we didn’t like the way the match was going. On the 5th of November we had our first full pitch game against Colfe’s, unfortunately we did lose 0-1 but the game was incredibly close as the goal was only conceived in the last 5 minutes. After this loss we went to play Langley Park, where we had a close game and so we drew 1-1. The team has changed since the first try-outs with team members leaving and new team members joining. The whole team has worked very hard this season and they should all be very proud. We are all so close and we work so well together as a team together which really shows during the matches.

Before I tell you the player of the team for 2020, I just want to tell everyone how amazing the friendships are in this team and how close we have all become because of it. Everyone has been so committed to the team and everyone gives so much to the team on and off the pitch. So, Well Done!! It has been very hard to choose a player of the team for 2020 because every single person in the team is such an amazing hockey player but I personally think India Sparkes deserves player of the team 2020. India is a super hockey player and an amazing asset to the whole team. She works incredibly hard and always gives 110%. India is great friends with everyone in the team and she supports everyone, again on and off the pitch. India is an amazing hockey player and will go very far in her hockey career. So well done India.

I’m very sad that the season is over but the whole team is so amazing and fun to be around and we have all had an absolute blast and we already can’t wait for the next season to start.

We started the season off with an amazing win of 7-0 against Croydon which set our team on a good path. We then struggled with our next match which was against jags who were a very difficult side to play against but we learned from our mistakes and drew the next match Colfe’s before winning an incredible victory against Langley Park which we won 10-1 which was the highlight of the season for us and was a great memory. Our last match although we lost 9-1, they were a very challenging side, but I could still see how much the team has improved and we have all had such an enjoyable season, improved so much as players and made some incredible memories. Each girl has tried to be the best they can be, and we are so thrilled about how each player has really challenged themselves. Throughout this season, the U13B squad has seen a lot of changes with 14 members coming and going, however every girl has left their mark on the team with their fun memories, unique personality, and great skill. Poppy as our top goal scorer has been a valuable member of the squad and has made some incredible deflections off the post.

We have decided as captains to give the player of the season to Lucy Kemp. She is a committed member to the team whilst bringing fun and motivation to the training and matches. She is also an incredible hockey player who is more than willing to play in any position which is thrown at her. She does it with an incredibly positive attitude which boosts the team's morale. She has improved so much as a player and is one of the fundamental building blocks of the team having been on the team from the beginning. We can really see she is going to go far as a hockey player.

Our year started off with a win against JAGS which propelled us into the season with confidence. Following this success, we had two games against Colfe’s and Blackheath, but despite much effort to hold them off, we unfortunately lost 2-0 and 1-0. These early matches were however taken as a great chance to know our teams better and work out each other’s strengths before our next big game against Streatham and Clapham. We started this game defending well - ending at the half time whistle on 0-0; sadly, in the second half we let in 6 goals. Victoria put us back in the game when she scored 2 goals to boost our confidence, but it was just too late! We learnt from our mistakes and realised that whatever happened we had to push it aside and work on our future, we have learnt to keep pushing ourselves through no matter what.

Our top goal scorers this season have been Victoria and Isobel. The team have agreed that Zainab was our ‘Player of the season’ because she had never played hockey before, yet she amazed everyone with her skills, including the opposing teams!

Huge congratulations to my team for our season – don’t give up and see you next year!!!

Our season started with a tough game at home against Jags which finished with a narrow 2-1 defeat. We fought hard and managed to grab a goal with an ambitious run from Zainab down the line and managing to slip past the goalkeeper into the goal. Following this, we had 2 well fought games against Colfe’s and Blackheath High, which unfortunately we lost with scores of 3-0 and 2-0. We wouldn’t let this affect us and we kept fighting and perfecting our skills as we were eager for a win. Our last but strong opponents were Streatham and Clapham High, with an exhausting long car journey but we were not going to let it affect our game. Unfortunately, we lost 4-0 but didn’t let it dampen our spirits and had a real laugh on the way back. My player of the year has got to go to Josie, she is a strong and tough defender and will fight for that ball no matter what and opens many opportunities up for the attackers, I am very grateful to have her on the team. Esme is also an exceptional goalkeeper, she faces many challenging balls but still manages to pull off a save, the team is very lucky to have her.

This year has been a good one, we have learnt so much and always have beaming smiles on our faces during practice. Thanks a lot, to Mr Evans and Mr Butler for coaching us and supporting us throughout the season to become the improved team we are now, I look forward to what next year holds for us, as Year 9s!

The U12A team had a superb first season together and were undefeated throughout the season. Our first match was against Croydon High School and we started as we meant to go on with a 7 – 1 win. Millicent quickly scored her hat trick and there were also goals for Ella Mitchell and me.

We followed this excellent start with a 1 – 1 draw against JAGS. This was a tight game with little to choose between the two teams. We worked hard at pushing the ball out wide rather than playing down the middle, something we had practiced during out training sessions. At the end of the match we were proud of the draw.

The third match was against Streatham and Clapham High. We won this 1 – 0, a goal for Chloe Hayden gave us the win. Sybil Wirrom-Jorrie guarded the goal for the first time and came away with a well-deserved clean sheet.

The final match of the season was against Langley Girls. On what was probably the wettest evening of the year we enjoyed a 3 – 0 win. Sybil ably supported by a strong defence kept a clean sheet and there were two goals for Millicent and one for me.

We have really enjoyed the season and are looking forward to lots more matches next year.

We had a very eventful hockey season, full of adventures, and progress.

Throughout the season we played six matches, we won 1, lost 3, and drew 2.

Our top player of the match was a girl who started in the B team, but got moved up for her great play, Ella Mitchell. And our top goal scorer was a girl who also got moved up for her amazing skill level, Chloe Hayden. The most memorable moment was in our first match, where we won 10-nil! This season began with an impressive game against Colfe’s, with a score of 6-1 to Bromley. This game gave everyone a boost of confidence for our next game, it was against JAGS, 3-0 to Bromley. These games were a good preparation for the tough matches we had up ahead. We then played against Blackheath High 1-0 to Bromley, but this was a tough match for everyone on pitch because the teams were so evenly matched. The next game was against Streatham and Clapham High, another hard-fought game,1-0 to Bromley. Our final game of the season was against Sydenham High, we drew 2 all, both teams fought hard to win the match.

The goal scorers of the season were: • Lila Sands; 6 goals • Ellie Goldsmith; 3 goals • Tilly Evans; 3 goals • Paris Ghadamian; 1 goal

Lila Sands was our top goal scorer this season, scoring 6 goals in total. The goal scorers were helped by the attack who managed to tackle past the other team’s defence. In this season we had 2 amazing goalies who were: Sophie Edwards and Paris Ghadamian, with the support of the defence, saved many goals over this season, well done!

Our success this season was that we haven’t been defeated by any other teams which is a huge achievement for the whole team. Thank you to Mrs Crawford who has supported us through our first hockey season, whatever the weather!

This football season, we started off with a very tight game against Farringtons 5-5, goal scorers included Daisy Carter, Esme Johnson and Rhianna Nwokolo. In our match we attacked very well, however we needed to improve a bit more on our defending. During the second round of our County Cup, we beat Bonus Pastor Catholic College 3-2. This was quite a tough game for us, however by working and playing hard we managed to achieve a win moving us into the semi-finals again Langley Park. In round three we beat Langley 1-0.

Out of all our games I personally think this was our best game as we attacked and defended very well and even though we made a few small errors along the way we fought back and made sure that we won back the ball taking us through to the quarter finals. Against Langley Park Rosie Rowe scored our goal, which is also amazing as she is a year 7 playing against year 9’s. Finally, in the quarter final we played against Bullers Wood, unfortunately though we lost to penalties. We played a great match and it was a very tough game as Bullers Wood were a very strong side. In the penalties we only managed to score one goal, by Lilly Derry and concede three.

I think that with a little more practice we can also improve on our penalty shooting skills for future events. Thank you to all the year 7s and 8s for helping us through to the quarter finals as well as all the year 9s.

We started off our football season with a great win scoring 5-1 against Cleeve park school in the County Cup competition. This propelled us with strength and confidence for the next round. The match was against Bullerswood school but not due to lack of efforts, we unfortunately left with a score of 0-1. We found that in this match there were some great saves from Marie-Thrérèse Brilliant and grate defending from Emily Yetzes and Andie Shannon. These matches most definitely helped us to reflect on how our matches influenced our confidence and how we should always want to make the right decisions at the right time and to want the ball/ not be afraid. We used this mindset in our training sessions, and it paid off well. Our next and final match was against Hayes in the Bromley match. We left the field with a score of 1-5 and once again this was not due to lack of efforts. During this match the goal was scored by Esmé Johnson to round off the season.

Our goal scorers included: Esmé Johnson, Emma Davey scoring 1 goal and Rosie Rowe.

Overall despite not playing many games, the Year eight team has been very enthusiastic and committed this season; it was a great opportunity, in my opinion, to focus on technique and confidence for us to win more matches in the following years. A big thank you to Mr Evans and Mr Bratton for supporting the team and organising our matches as well as making the football season so fun as well as helping us improve so much from year seven. Our next match was an away game against Farringtons School. Determined from the start to play well and win this game we were 5-0 up at half time. We went on to win the game 9-0. This achievement showed how much we had improved as a team in a short space of time and was now ready to take on our next challenge against .

It was a tough game on a muddy and slippery pitch, but both teams were committed and keen to win. Being the home team gave us an advantage and, in the end, we won the match 3-0.

That brought our season to an end, and although we only played three games the experience and team spirit that has been developed will encourage the team for next season.

Special thanks to our team coaches Mr Evans And Mr Bratton.

Our first match of the season was against Colfe’s School, with whom we usually have a tough fight to win against. We managed to leave the fixture having won 29-17, throughout it was a very tight game making every centre pass crucial to turn over or ensure it was a goal. Within the last half we managed to gain significant ground in the score through our excellent shooter (Sofie Williams and Imogen Gush) ensuring that every play ended with a goal and our defence (Pav Ladher and Kate Norton) making sure the majority of Colfe’s attacking plays were stopped with an interception. This win led us nicely into the season with our spirits high.

The Kent’s tournament was next for us and is always very early on in the season and this year we didn’t feel particularly prepared for it. Regardless of this we lost 2 matches, drew 1 and won 3. We came 3rd in our pool so just missed on qualifying for the finals. This was an impressive performance and the girls who attended played well.

St Dunstan’s was next and was our first match after half term, so we hadn’t played as a team for a while. We expected this to be a disadvantage to our play, although we started off slow we managed to win the game 25-18 after drawing through all 3 quarters we ended up scoring 9-2 in the last quarter through putting on significant pressure and making every turn over was a goal. This game was a highlight to our season. Another highlight as a team was the match against JAGS who are historically a very hard team to beat and tend to put up a very aggressive fight. They were our first match back after Christmas. This meant we would have to quickly snap back to our best performance after a long break from netball, but despite being rusty from the holiday, we managed to leave the fixture with a draw (16-16) and with the knowledge that we played an amazing game showing the true strength of our team.

Unfortunately, this year the tournament we work up to all season, Trust, was cancelled. This was a great shame for our team as I am confident, we could have made it very far in the tournament due to how well bonded our team are, both on and off the netball court.

Despite beginning the year with a new team, we have had an enjoyable and successful 19/20 season. Even though we haven’t had many matches, we have been able to develop our communication as a team and understand each player's strengths and use this to our advantage. As the season progressed, in our training sessions we focused on the structure of our play, highlighting strengths and weaknesses in our attacking and defensive skills.

We were able to integrate what we had learnt in our training into our matches and this is shown in our victories against teams such as Walthamstow Hall where we won 14-10 and St Dunstan’s college where we won 30-3. In our match against our toughest competitors, Colfe’s, we were able to achieve a draw of 18-18 due to the determination and willpower of our players - it was most definitely some of our greatest play of the season. I wish the team all the best next academic year and know they can continue gaining some great successes.

This year's netball for us year 10 came with plenty of challenges as well as this season started early with only being in school for a week before our first game and not playing with our team for almost 6 months, as well as Grace Moore joining who not only added passion but also strength and spirit to the team. Our first match was a National Cup round although only being round 1 it was a challenging game for both sides, yet we pulled through and we won against Highgate School, with a score of 37-24 this boosted us with plenty of confidence for the rest of the season.

Our next match was a game against Hayes although only a friendly we played with determination winning against them 20-2. Both matches were a great chance to work out our strengths and weaknesses in preparation for our 2nd round of the national cup. This match was played against St Albans school for girls, this was a fast and well fought netball contest between both teams. We played with determination and flair, as neither team wanted to lose the 2nd round of the Cup competition. Our shooters Jaipreet Ladher, Emily McLennan and Rose O’Brien were outstanding in the attacking circle, holding their space and continuing to score goals against a pair of very physical defenders. A brilliant match to play, with a big score.

Next was our big Kent tournament we played above for year 11 so we played against some very tough teams meaning we unfortunately did not qualify for the finals. With 6 games still left and 5 of them being cancelled. We won another 2. The 4th win was against Newstead woods, again although only being a friendly we played with confidence and gained another win 14-1. Up next was a Match against Royal Russell where we put another win in the bag with the score of 17-7.

Our next match was not only our first away match but also our 3rd round of the National Cup. It meant a trip to Brighton but sadly we didn’t get the result we wanted. Although we were disappointed with the final result 31-61, we had played our hardest and it turned out that Brighton college ended up winning the National cup. Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar school was our next game, again playing home we won 15-2, this boosted our confidence again after our last loss. 23-8 was our next win against JAGS, we were on the up.

We sadly then lost our focus for our home game against Alleyns brining us our first loss at home this season. Little did we know our season would be cut short and Alleyns ended up being our final game. This was a shame as we were looking forward to playing Sevenoaks who have always been our toughest opponents. This year has been, in my opinion, hugely beneficial for us as we have learnt so much, we are looking forward to carrying on playing as a team for Year 11. A big thank you to Miss Higgins for not only coaching us but also supporting us as a team

U’15 B-Team Netball

This year's netball B team has not only grown together, but individually. Everyone became more confident in their netball skills and overall, we worked better as a team. As well as this we had a new member to the team, Sofia Elliot, who brought strength and passion towards the sport and our team. Our first match was against Hayes school, as the first match we all played with determination. It was a challenging match for both sides, as it being the first match of the season, yet our team gained the win, beating them 15-3. This match gave us a lot of confidence towards the up and coming matches. Our next match was a friendly match against , each team had the mindset to win the game. However, our team played exceptionally well and pulled through to achieve with our highest score yet 27-2. Both our defensive and attacking units worked hard on spacing and eliminating contact, as these were our challenges we chose to focus on from our weaknesses in the last match, and we overcame these which was represented in the score which we are proud of.

Our next two games were very close, the game we played against Royal Russell was a tough and hard match. Each girl worked as hard as they could, and we achieved the win 10-5. We had a break from netball as it was the winter holiday, however, when we came back the whole team had their mind set on winning each game of the season. Our first match back was a very close game with Chislehurst and Sidcup grammar school. At the first half we were losing by two points which set us back a bit, but we all came together and worked out what the problems were, each girl thought of this whilst playing the next half and we managed to win 6-5. After this we had a friendly match with JAGS. From previous games with this school they have always pushed us to work harder due to their different ways of playing which we were not used to. Although this confused us, our perseverance and mind set pushed us and ended up winning 15-9. It was a tiring yet brilliant match to play.

Next we were going to play Walthamstow Hall; we had a bit of doubt in our heads as last time we played them we lost 5-23. Everyone worked their hardest with the aim to change this around and make it a game for us to win. This was clearly shown through the end scores with us winning by 25- 2, not only getting a huge score but also beating them by a higher number than they did to us last year. As the season was coming to an end, we had one last game to play against Alleyn’s school. We were so close to winning all our games no one wanted to stop this from happening. From the start to the end of the game every girl gave all their energy and strength into this game, and proudly won 18-8. This was a great end to the season, and overall from all the player of the matches, girls of the team and even Francesca Jones, Saskia Turner, Grace Moore and Isabel Dali from the A team who helped us when we were a team member down, helped us reach our goal of being undefeated. This was of course majorly impacted from our coach, Miss Higgins, who has not only taught us how to play but has taught us to have confidence. I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team.

The season began with loss against Bishop Challoner, with a score of 1-6 however we did not let this ruin our team spirit and continued into the season striving to improve. Following this, we had an impressive victory against Bishop Challoner, with a score of 21-0, really presenting what hard work and constant practise can do. This boosted our confidence as a team and motivated us to continue the regular practise and improve our techniques. Our next match against JAG’s was another success, with a score of 9-5, followed by another victory of 19-8. This year has been hugely beneficial to all the girls in the team as it has helped us improve our netball skills, allowed us to vary our extra-curricular activities and grow as a team. In my opinion, due to bad weather and the circumstances, despite having many of our matches and tournaments cancelled, all the girls showed their diligence and commitment to training sessions has been impeccable. Thank you to Miss Higgins for motivating us, helping us improve our skills immensely and supporting us through our wins and losses – I hope this has encouraged the girls to continue playing and I look forward to seeing what Year 11 holds for us.

Throughout this netball season, our team has developed a stronger bond and communication amongst ourselves. We have learnt many new techniques that we have then put into play during our matches and tournaments.

Our training sessions had a great impact on us as we practiced different strategies like diamond and wall. This then gave us an advantage when it came to be playing on court as we had a game plan and were well prepared.

This season we played against many schools including Portsmouth High School where we won 17- 1, Streatham & Clapham High where we lost 7-9, Blackheath High School where we won 12-6 and many others. There were games where we left on a high and games we left on a low. However, we went back and trained even harder, focussing on the things we needed to improve and how to better ourselves by fixing mistakes we had made.

Our biggest tournament was the Kent County tournament which took place on the 6th of November 2019. We played against many tough teams where we won 5 games, lost 1 and tied once. This then placed us 2nd in our pool, therefore qualifying us for the Kent finals. It was a big achievement and the whole team felt very proud of what we had accomplished.

The responsibility of being captain really helped me a lot with my leadership and teamwork skills. I saw individuals in the team progress and show a lot of improvement to becoming better netball players with the help of Mrs Clemens. Mrs Clemens had a great impact on all of us as she gave us a great deal of support, guided and pushed us to do better. In training she introduced us to new techniques and drills that really helped us. As well as working hard, as a team we all enjoyed spending time together and having fun which made the netball season even better!

The year started off to an amazing win against Colfe’s, with the score ending in 15-2, this gave us a massive boost for what was to come. After this we had a tough game which we had to settle for a defeat, the end score was 7- 12 to James Allen’s Girls school (JAGS). This made us determined to work and train harder. Our next match was a versatility tournament where we won against Bromley C 7-1, Bromley D 10-1 and Bromley E 7-0. Unfortunately, we lost against Bromley A 2-9, Newstead Woods 1-4 and Farringtons 0-4. This was a great chance for us to play different positions and play against other teams to see what we needed to improve on.

Our next match against Croydon High was unfortunately cancelled but this spurred us on to train harder for our next match. Our next match was a hard one, it was against Newstead Woods School for Girls which we did end up losing 2-4, but we came back fighting with an amazing win against Royal Russell School, 26-6! We then had a competitive game against Walthamstow Hall which we ended up winning 7-6. Our next game was against Alleyn’s School, but it was cancelled, instead this was a training session which gave us lots of new skills for the last match of the season, this was against St Dunstan’s College. We won 8-4. This was an amazing way to end the season.

In my opinion, we have learnt so much this year and bonded as a team well. We cannot wait to get into year 10 and start the season again.

This season has been full of hard work during training and teamwork during matches. The C team became more and more determined throughout the season to score as many goals as we could, and although we did not manage to win all of them, the team tried their hardest at every match. Our first game was against Colfe’s, where we were defeated 7-19.

However, the team was not phased by this unfortunate start to the season and in our next match against JAGS, we were able to reduce the difference of goals scored to 2 even though we lost 6- 8. The third game we played was against Blackheath High School U14A, and as captain I believe that the team faced this challenge with determination, although we also lost 4-17. The next game was against Royal Russell School, where we won 9-4! All those training sessions were really improving our game play. Sadly, our last game did not end so well, since we lost 0-26 despite our eagerness to get one goal. The rest of the season, we mostly focused on training, due to a few of our games being cancelled, and preparing for the Benenden Tournament. The C team played all their games to the best of their ability and though we did not score in all of them, I think that we did improve little by little while playing against the other schools. Overall the C team won one game and lost 4 games, excluding the tournament, in this netball season. This makes our win percentage 25%.

This season for the U13 A netball team has been such an amazing season, winning many tough matches and competing in a National Cup! Throughout this term of lots of netball matches and training, each member of this team has become much stronger as a player and together as a team.

We started off the season with a win against Colfe’s school and then competing against JAGS who put up a good competition, but we pulled through with a win of 22-7. In October we started in a National Cup, our first match was against a tough side of Queenswood School, every goal counted for our side but with our tough defence with Marie and Olivia we started coming into a roll and won it 29-27. It was a very tough match, but our team talks worked, and we brought back the win to go through to our second draw. Our next round of the cup was Guilford High School which we knew would be a very tough competition, but we wouldn’t let that come in our way. We started off a bit shaky and we let them get ahead by quite a few goals in the first half but in the second half we were fighting the whole way through to try and get their lead back… Unfortunately, they kept on at the goals and took the win of 38-21 but we wouldn't let that bring us down for the other matches we have to come.

Next we had Newstead Girls School, we started off very strong which allowed us to keep the ball throughout the match which allowed us to get a big enough gap to win the match of 34-4. Then we had a match against St Dunstan’s, and we started off very strong and we took the win of 28-0. Next we had JAGS ho we played earlier in the year, we knew that they would like to get a win especially because we won last time but all of the parts of the court really gelled well together especially with the new addition to our team Bethany W who really slowed down the game and got lots of interceptions and again we won 19-18, a very close match. Our last match was against one of our toughest competitions Sevenoaks, we were winning the whole way through the match but at the end we found it hard to get the ball into the circle which definitely let us down a bit so we nearly gave them the win but we fought back and settled at a draw of 20-20.

Unluckily the whole team were so excited to go to our Kent tournament on the 20th March but for different reasons it was cancelled, although that was going to be our last time playing all together we still had one last fun tournament training with the other teams and we knew that we were going to have fun!

From the team and I, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Miss Bernatovitch who gave me this amazing position of captain to this incredible team who everyone will work together to always will never fail to bring home a win! Without Miss B we would have never got as far as we did and on behalf of the team, I would love to thank you so much you have been the most amazing coach ever and we can’t wait to have you next year. I would like to thank the team for all their hard work and team effort and making this season a good one. We have improved greatly, and we are looking forward to improving furthermore next year.

This netball season has been very successful, winning 5 matches out of 7 with only losing. Unfortunately, our Kent’s were cancelled which would have been an amazing experience however all players have improved hugely.

We started off the season with a draw against Colfe’s (10-10) which was a tough match, followed with a win against JAGS (5-0). Our next match was our toughest match losing 6-7 against Walthamstow. This match was a close one and we fought until the end. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way. We then came 3rd in the versatility tournament, winning 9-3 against Newstead. Our next match was the best result out of all matches which was 21-1 versus St Dunstan’s. We played JAGS twice which was a good opportunity to see how well we had improved throughout the season. Our final score was 21-7 which is a huge improvement from the first time we played them. Our last match was a win against Sevenoaks (14-7).

My favourite matches this season was the second JAGS match and the Sevenoaks match because it truly showed how much we had improved. If it wasn’t for Miss B we wouldn’t have improved as much.

Throughout the season, we worked well as a team from our shooters to centre court and defence. We had players join the team and leave the team all through the season but kept our standard of playing high.

I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work, commitment and team effort in general and for making this season enjoyable. We all have improved massively and look forward to improving more next year. I would like to thank Miss Bernatovitch for all her help in making us all better netball players. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't be the team we are today so thank you.

This season has been a good challenge for the U13C team due to many cancellations because of weather and (towards the end) coronavirus.

I feel that we haven’t just improved our netball skills, but we have also improved our communication skills within the team and have gotten to know each other a lot better as people.

On Thursday January 30th we faced St Dunstan’s College, where we won 8-0. This game demonstrated good communication skills and working together as a team. In this game our defence were strong and provided a good shield which meant that the opposition scored no goals.

On Wednesday February 26th we played in a tournament at Benenden where we faced 7 teams under good conditions and we managed to win 6 out of the 7 matches, which the team were proud of. Saint Roan were a tough team to face, however despite the struggles the team managed to come out on top with 3-1. Despite our ups and downs, we managed to get to the finals, where we faced a challenging match against Wimbledon’s C team, which despite the loss highlighted weaknesses and aspects of the match that we could improve on in the future. As we finished the final quarter the score became 5-3 which put us in 4th position out of the 18 teams there. Overall our team, having faced some tough challenges throughout the season and although we had obstacles to overcome our team faced them together and on more than one occasion managed to come out on top. We kept the motivation and team spirit and finished the season on a high. None of this could be done without Miss Bernatovitch who stuck with us till the end and not only made us better netball players but overall better people. So, on behalf of the team and I, we would like to thank Miss Bernatovitch for her time and dedication towards giving us a great season. This could not have been possible without you so thank you very much.

This year the U13 D netball team have been a great team. We always work together and try our best. This year has had a great mix of matches and we have had our highs and lows, but I am proud to say that we have lost only one match out of the 6 we have played this season. We have changed and grown so much as a team and I am proud to say we have improved immensely…

We started off the season with a friendly match against Colfe’s on the 18th of September. It was a great way to start winning 11-5. Followed a few weeks later by a versatility tournament on the 3rd of October. We came 6th out of 8 teams however I felt like this tournament was a great learning point for our team as we played against many different teams with different levels of ability. We also got to play different positions which helped the team expand their abilities and skills. Our next match was against Walthamstow hall, we unfortunately lost this 4-7. Next we played Bishop Challoner, it was a tight game, but we pulled through in the last quarter and won 8-7. This game was followed by a match against St Dunstan’s on the 30th of January. This was a great game for us, and all points were met, and we managed to win 11-0. This was our last match before the teams were switched around, so we were happy to end it on a high.

On Wednesday the 12th of February we played our first match with the new team. We started off on a high and won 7-6 against jags, it was a tight game and we were missing a few players however we managed to pull through. A couple weeks later the 26th of February we had a tournament at Benenden. This was a tough day for us, and we were missing a few players. We unfortunately lost 4 matches and drew 2. A couple weeks later we had our final game against Sevenoaks. It was a tough game, but we played the best we could and came out with a win of 11-4.

Overall the season has been a great experience and I would just like to thank all the girls for their hard work and effort. We are also all very grateful for Miss Bernatovitch wo has helped us improve so much.

This year the U13 E netball team have played well together with so much improvement throughout the year. The U13 E team have worked so hard, always pushing themselves to the best of their abilities and everyone in the team always came to be training to improve their netball skills.

We have had our ups and downs as a team this year winning some games and losing others but by losing games it showed us what we needed to work on more. Unfortunately, many of this season's games were cancelled due to bad weather therefore we didn't have as many games as we usually would have had.

Overall, I think this season was a good experience for the U13 E team and there is so much we have learnt throughout the year I would like to say well done to Alyssa for winning the most players of the match. Another thing I would like to say is a huge thankyou to the U13 E team for being such a great team this year, and a thank you to Miss Bernatovitch for arranging everything.

On the 19th September, we played our first game against Colfe’s as a friendly but unfortunately, despite our brilliant effort, lost 9-5. Being our very first game of the year, it told us our strengths and weaknesses of which we needed to work on. On the 4th October, our hard work paid off as we had our first tournament, also being a versatility, against a variety of schools, and after the struggle of getting used to playing unfamiliar positions, we took first place!

On 7th November we had the trust tournament, winning six and losing four out of the ten games. At 9:40, our first game gave us confidence by winning 4-2 against Newcastle High! Holding the victory, we then won 8-0 when playing Blackheath High School. At 11:10, we played Sutton High School beating them 10-0 followed by yet another win of 7-3 vs Royal High School. After playing Wimbledon High- who were exceptional- we finished the game with our first loss. Despite this, we started our following game with our heads up, determined to play our very best and as a result, yet another victory! We next played South Hampstead High and Croydon high school who both, unfortunately, beat us, 3-2 and 5-1. Once again, we gave 101% in the last two games, being victorious in both. The Penultimate match playing Nottingham High with a fantastic final score of 7-0, followed by a win of 6-1 whilst playing Oxford High school.

Moving on from the tournament our next game was against Walthamstow Hall at home but despite our effort, it just was not our game and we unfortunately lost 5-7.

Our next match on the 21 November was in yet another tournament! This time is was the Bromley Schools Games tournament, with the winning team going on the represent Bromley Borough at the London Youth Games. We played the 6 schools in Bromley and won every one, only conceiving one goal against us throughout the whole thing! The 6 other schools were – Harris Academy – 8- 0, Newstead wood - 5-0, Langley girls – 3-1, Bullerswood – 5-0, Chislehurst girls – 7-0 and finally Bishop Challoner – 7-0. This made us Bromley School Games Netball Champions!

Soon after we had a friendly against Chislehurst and Sidcup grammar, with yet another great win of 15-4.

Our penultimate game was another friendly against Sevenoaks school, winning 6-4. This was a great game as we started off losing 3-0 and then coming back to win!

Our final game was vs Alleyn’s school which we unfortunately lost 7-4 though it was a great game!

Sadly, due to our season being cut short, we missed out on our Kent Netball Tournament and the London Youth Games that we qualified for, however, we do have the T-Shirts as a memory that we would have been representing the Borough!

Overall, we couldn’t have exceeded to this level without our shooters, Lucia Graney, Becca Coley and Charlotte Cosgrove, our defence, Sybil Wirrom-Jorrie, Nuriah Orhurhu and Chloe Hayden, our centre court players, Rosie Rowe, Ella Mitchell, Sophie Mill and my amazing vice-captain Matilda Smith and of course, a MASSIVE thankyou to our outstanding coach Miss Higgins – we couldn’t have done it without you! We are all looking forward to seasons to come and miss netball greatly!

The U12B team have all been amazing this season, we have all have been determined and have not given up. Everyone played their part and supported one another, it was a pleasure being captain for the team. Even though we didn’t win every match we gave it our best shot.

We all worked our hardest and achieved great success. We had a really strong team with people who wanted it and worked hard. At the beginning we struggled because we were new to each other and didn’t know each other's strengths and weaknesses but now we are strong and united. There is such a bright future for these girls if they keep working hard. Maybe we didn’t win all our matches but it’s the perseverance and determination that really makes us a team. We had a great success as well, all the matches showed off our skills, but we wouldn’t have achieved that without time to train, Miss Higgins helped us be the team we are and took the time to make us better. What we say to each other before we go on for a match is work hard and that's all we can do. Our first match against colfe’s was hard, we never played with each other before and we were still figuring out how to play with each other the score was 4-10 to Colfe’s but next time we play them we know what we have to do and how to communicate with each other. Our second match was against Walthamstow Hall it was tough, and we were getting better but not quite there, we fought hard but lost 3-5 we were making progress. Next, we went up against Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School we knew each other better and got into the zone, which helped us win 14-0 , we can start to see the result of hard work.

Next we went against Sevenoaks. It was very tough, but we worked hard and deserved the win of 6-4. We got that result because we listened to what we were told by our coach and applied it to the game. Then all our teams played against Alleyn's School, we were really going for it in that match and it was hard. It was a pretty even match but at the end we pushed and got one last goal before the whistle, the score was 4-3 to us, that was our last match and we felt proud as a team. It was also great to finish with two strong wins! Well done U12B You worked hard, and it paid off!

The C team has done very well this term, we won 7 games, drew 2 and only lost 1 out of 7 games altogether. Plus two friendlies, one drawing 4-4 and the other winning 8-1 We played our first game on 19th of September 2019 against Colfe’s which we drew 2-2, although this was a friendly this was a very good result, this match’s result was even better as it was very near to the beginning of the year and the teams were very new. Our second fixture was on the 4th of October 2019, which was a versatility tournament. This was an excellent experience with us getting to play every position on court and gain more knowledge into the game. It also highlighted the team’s strengths and weaknesses and who had some secret skills we hadn’t seen yet! Our third game was on the 13th of November 2019, this was our only loss, it was a quite challenging game but we didn’t give up and in the end had an outcome of 2-5. If we played again I’m sure we could have pushed ourselves that bit further and won but sadly we didn’t this time, although it was a great effort. Our next game was on the 25th of November against Blackheath High School, we Drew 2-2 which was a good outcome as this match was very challenging and probably one of our hardest games. We put in all our effort and skills into it and ended up with a brilliant outcome! Our 5th game was on the 9th of December, against Old Palace of John Whitgift School, we won 4- 3. This was a very challenging game, but we managed to pull it off and not give up. Everyone was very proud of this result. Our 6th game was on the 27th of January, against Sevenoaks School, this was a friendly and ended up being one of our biggest wins so far. Our team played very well, and we didn’t give up even through tough weather and different courts. The result was 8-1 and we were all really pleased with the outcome. Our 7th game was on the 11th of February against Alleyn’s school, this was a very hard and tight game but a fantastic win, the score was 3-2 and we were all pleased after having a tough time. Our 8th game was on the 26th of February, this was the Benenden tournament and overall, we placed joint 5th out of 10 so it was a very good outcome, we worked very hard and had a very tiring day with around two and a half hours of netball! Our 9th and best at last, was on the 2nd of March 2020 and this was our biggest and best result winning 12-0 this was a challenging game to keep the ball, but we succeeded and ended up with a fantastic result. The C-team throughout the term consisted of:

8. Paris Ghadamian 1. Jessica Gower 9. Annabelle Robinson 2. Ava Bellinger (Capt.) 10. Julia Torpy 3. Eloise Williams 4. Olivia Dove 11. Lila Sands 5. Zara Parkin 12. Amelia Johnson 6. Petra Ogunkinle 13. Eleanor Goldsmith 7. Georgina McDowell 14. Tate Ruffle

15. Jessica Jenkins

It all started with our first match of the season, which was against Colfe’s School. It was an away game and we were all excited. Sadly, one of the players on the other team had a medical issue during the match, so we couldn’t have a full game. The score ended up with a draw 0-0. There was another match on the 27 January, which we were all very pleased about as we won 4-1 against Sevenoaks School.

On the 26 February, it was our team’s first tournament due to the first one being cancelled because of bad weather. It was situated at Benenden’s School and Izzy and I thought the school looked like a castle! :) We were not doing great as we had lost all our matches, we didn’t think we could win one game, until it was our last match and we put our all effort into it and then Connie Murrell scored a goal in the net. We were so happy and were gracing Connie with thank you’ s. After this, we all knew what we had to work on and we practised a lot at them and it paid off, our last match for the season was against St. Dunstan’s College and we won 6-0! We were all very proud of ourselves after this.

The team consisted of: Talaia Ennis (Me, captain), Isabelle (Izzy) Maybin, Connie Murrell, Sophie Edwards, Paris Ghadamian, Daisy Trinick, Julia Torpy, Joy Carter, Amelie Tang and Ella Croxford. I am sorry if I haven’t mentioned you individually, but I could have gone on for a long time, so I will say it to all of you, thank you for being a great team and for lots of good teamwork in all our fixtures. The team and I would just like to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Corps for coaching us every Monday and sometimes after school on Thursday.

This year we played 3 games, we won 2 games and lost 1 game. We lost our first game against Alleyn’s School 0-5.

Our second game was against St. Dunstan’s college and we played well and won with 6-0. We also played well on our last game and won again against St. Dunstan’s college, 6-0. Everyone made huge progress throughout the year and should be proud of our results. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for us next year!

Senior Swimming

It was another successful year for the Bromley High Senior Swim Team, having competed in several national competitions, claiming numerous records and titles. The year started with the GDST Trust Rally, where a team of Lily Meers, Hannah O’Flynn, Annabel Smith, Evie Davis and Imogen Meers competed to defend the Senior swimming title. There were strong performances all-round, which amounted to three individual golds from Evie in the 50m freestyle, Annabel in the 50m butterfly and Imogen in the 50m backstroke, as well as two relay golds, leading to an overall team win for the third year in a row!

Between training for national championships, we also competed in the English Schools National Championships at the London Aquatic Centre later in the year. It was our first time competing at this competition and after some very fast swimming, which included two best times for our relay teams, we came away with a 6th place in the Medley Relay and a 4th place in the Freestyle Relay, being beaten only by Millfield School, Mount Kelly College and Plymouth College, three nationally renowned swim schools!

The final competition of the year took place back at the London Aquatic Centre, where we competed in the heats and finals of the National Bath and Otter Cup. Some excellent swimming placed us first after both heats and had us well positioned to defend both the Medley and Freestyle relay titles. The team performed again in the finals, easily cementing themselves at the top of the podium in both the Freestyle relay (Evie, Annabel, Lily and Imogen) and the Medley relay (Evie, Annabel, Hannah and Imogen). Having competed last year for the first time, we knew the high standard of this competition and came with the aim of claiming a national record. After a convincing heats swim, where we were less than a second off the record, the team stepped up in the final, and took the national record by 0.3s in a time of 1:49.29, making us the fastest girls freestyle relay ever swam at this competition! Well done to everyone that swam this year and contributed to the swim team’s strongest season yet. It has been such a privilege to be the Senior swim captain at Bromley High and I wish Miss Bernatovitch and her team the best of luck in the future!

Imogen Meers, Senior School Swimming Captain

Middle Swimming

This year we had a small team of only four. Back in September after only being back at school for three weeks we had the Kent Trials. With less training than usual we weren't as ready as we could have been, despite this we competed in the freestyle and individual medley coming 9th overall. In the races, many new PBs were set too.

This brought us onto the second Gala where we competed with 12 other Trust schools and finished first. Then to the final gala; where we participated with two other mixed schools, we also placed first. With many more Gala’s on the calendar for the Summer Term, it has been disappointing for us that they were cancelled due to coronavirus.

I would like to say congratulations to my team as although it has been a short season, what fun we had and how much we achieved. Swimming is most likely the hardest sport to practice whilst isolating but I am sure as soon as we can train and compete again there will be many more wins to look forward to.

Grace Gandy, Middle School Swimming Captain

Cross Country Season Review 2019-20

In the 2020 cross country season our team of year 7 and 8’s was very dedicated coming to training every Thursday morning despite the (sometimes) horrible weather.

(below an image of most the year 7 and 8 team with some of the year 9 and 10’s too)

We competed in a few races over the season. The first one (8th October 2019) was the Bromley ESAA where our team did quite well but not well enough to make it to the regionals, but this only motivated us to do better for the following races in the season!

After that, we had the Bromley schools on the 13th of November 2019. The year 7’s and 8’s ran separately but both did so well. From the year 7’s race 3 of the girls made it to the Kent race in Dover and from the year 8’s 2 of the girls made it which was incredible considering they were all running against the best in Bromley. The results were: Year 8; Esme Johnson 8th, Lucy Kemp 9th, Poppy Evans 17th and Islay Pearson 18th, Year 7; Alyssa Firla 3rd, Bella Lightbourne 5th, Ellie Goldsmith 6th, Sybil Wirrom Jorrie 17th, Chloe Netscher 22nd and Amelia Hopkins 34th. (start of the year 7 race)

For what unfortunately was the final race of the season, we went back to Sevenoaks to do the Knole run. The weather was terrible, it was raining, muddy and freezing with a hard course and through all of that we still persevered and we still did well! And we got to celebrate back at home with the year 7 and 8 disco.

So, in conclusion the cross-country season was fun and taught us about perseverance and teamwork. Can’t wait till next year!

Alyssa Firla, Cross Country Captain
