2nd July 2019

Dear Student,

Thank you for considering Barry Sixth Form to further your academic progress in September 2019. Timetabled subjects within Barry Sixth Form are run across both Barry English medium secondary schools, namely Whitmore High School and High School. Students can opt for courses which base them either wholly within a single site or across both – transport between sites is scheduled, regular and timed to present no disruption to learning.

Your acceptance into the sixth form is dependent upon:

 gaining 5 or more suitable GCSE (including equivalent BTEC/vocational qualifications) grades at C or above  gaining suitable grades within the core of English and Mathematics – those applicants with grades below C for either will follow a resit programme for either/both subjects  completing pre-requisite courses successfully where applicable (e.g. ICT, Science)  a successful interview and registration process  a willingness to agree to the rules of Barry Sixth Form

To complete your application, you must attend for interview and registration on one of the days detailed below:

Time: GCSE Results Day Thursday 22nd August 9.30am – 12.30pm Venue: Whitmore High School or Pencoedtre High School

Advice, support and guidance will be provided on this day. Any students unable to attend on this day can register on:

Time: Monday 2nd September 10.00am – 12.00pm Venue: Whitmore High School or Pencoedtre High School

The uniform for all sixth form students can be purchased from Ruckleys in Holton Road and consists of:

 white shirt  sixth form tie  sixth form jumper  black trousers/skirt (no jeans, leggings or skinny jeans/trousers)  black shoes (plain leather shoes or completely black [no logo] trainer type shoe)

You may be aware that certain students who are in post-16 education are entitled to an allowance known as EMA. If you think you are eligible you can collect an application pack from either school on registration day or alternatively apply online at www.emawales.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,
