Shenzhen is the window of China's reform and opening-up, and also the experimental field of contemporary urban planning theory and thought in China. The 40-year process of concentrated development has transformed Shenzhen from a border town of 20,000 people into a megacity of more than 20 million people, which is a unique case in the history of urban construction and planning. Shenzhen's planning and construction, while introducing Special Session III — China City Planning Review (CCPR) Special Session: Creating Cities of Sharing through Planning western urban planning theories and methods, insist on exploring innovation and constantly try and correct mistakes, experienced a process as from efficiency first to quality priority, and to focus on fairness and justice. The world political, economic and technological order is experiencing unprecedented restructuring due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is still spreading very rapidly. The US-China conflicts have been escalating to a level As urbanization continues, urban regeneration is fast gaining momentum in major cities in China. This is driven by the strong economic forces, such as rising land prices, rapid industrial upgrading, and strong demand for unseen for decades since President Nixon's visit in 1972. Globalization that has been promoted for decades is facing critical challenges. The advance in new technologies has prompted people to think seriously about the homeownership. As land for urban expansion becomes increasingly scarce, urban regeneration is expected to be a major planning approach for urban spatial development in the future.
