They have made strides to heal their wounds, but work remains to be done. Catholics in Georgia live primar- ily in rural villages, where it is all but impossible to find medical care. Vulnerable popularions like the elderly, disa- bled, children, expectant mothers suffer the most. But be- cause of you, this suffering is being alleviated by the love of Christ. With your support for the Collection for the School Ministry Stations of the Cross Every Friday Church in Central and Eastern Europe (CCEE), the During Lent at 2:10 PM Church in Georgia has worked through the network of parishes to expand medical services to respond to the needs of these remote villages. MARCH 17, 2019 PAGE 4 Putting Our Faith Into Action - Catholic Relief Services (CRS) - YOUTH BUILD Eduardo Gomez took three public buses, starting at dawn, to be the first to arrive at the CRS YouthBuild program to grab a seat and put his head down to avoid having to talk to his fellow students in Guatemala. He was so scared that he couldn’t express himself very well. After graduating from YouthBuild he is a new person: a parish youth ministry leader who started his own bakery business. And, he is much more self-confident. The intensive 6-month program, provides employment, education and leadership opportunities to young people, ages 16-25, in a loving, respectful environment. In Latin America and the Caribbean, youth are three times more likely than adults to be unemployed. They coprose more than half the population, but increasing violence and lack of economic opportunity have pushed them to join the hundreds of thousands of adults making the perilous journey to the U.S. After completing YouthBuild, 70% of young people get a job, start a business or go back to school. Visit www.crs.org/youthbuild/ Please join your fellow parishioners for a bowl of soup, a presentation and discussion that will educate and inform us about the following topics. The soup suppers are open to all St. Barnabas parishioners and guests. (Appropriate for youth in junior high and older) There will be a free will offering each evening. March 14th Sponsored by St. Barnabas Outreach Ministry Hear about the Mission Trips our parish has sponsored since 2004 and the upcoming trips for 2019. March 28th Sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul Debbie Miller will share about the program, “Heeling Hidden Hurts,” a Christ-centered free ministry, leading those who have been affected by an abortion to reconciliation and find peace. MAKE SURE TO RSVP to ensure that we have adequate soup. You can sign up for the suppers after Mass March 9/10th, email: [email protected] , use the sign up genius link, http://bit.ly/2019-LentenSoupSupper. In so doing, we pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. March 17th Update ENCOUNTER ANNET - In Uganda, we encounter Annet and her family, children forced to flee violence, searching for stability. How are we called to welcome the stranger in our midst? How can you support those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org.
