Directions to Woodchester Mansion

DO NOT use the Mansion post code in satnavs – it takes you to the wrong end of the valley where there is no vehicular access to the house.

Take the B4066 road via and Uley.

Take turning to with brown sign ‘NT Woodchester Park’. The turning is about 2mi from the 2nd cattle grid on Selsley Common if coming from Stroud, and just past the Coaley Peak picnic area sign (and on opposite side of the road) if approaching from Dursley. Please note if coming from Dursley, it’s the second Nympsfield turning, not the one at the crossroads. There is a small green grassy triangle with a large tree on it at the junction of the turning with the B4066.

About 20yds down the turning you will see the black iron gate on the left, with two large stone gateposts some 10yds behind the gate. The gate is normally padlocked. If approaching from the Dursley direction, the gate is directly opposite as you turn off the B4066.

(Note: The National Trust car park is further down the turning, about 200yds from the B4066).

Go slowly down the track ahead of you, max speed 10mph. Watch out for potholes. Ignore both turnings to the left. You won’t see the Mansion until you’re about 200yds away, just after the second turning on the left (with the open gate).

Parking is at the rear of the Mansion – follow the track along the S front and park. There is a door at the NE corner of the house, close to the hillside. Ring the bell marked ‘office’ if no-one is around to meet you.
