It is with sincere thanks and excitement that we continue to welcome teams from overseas, nationally and locally to play in this competitive and fun tournament. Congratulations on your participation in 2018’s INF and good luck! Play well, learn more, bond with your team and make new friends! International Netball Festival Inc www.internationalnetballfestival.com PO Box 903 HELENSVALE QLD 4212 Australia Telephone 1800 157 747—NZ Telephone 00 800 9999 0001 INF President Jane Rushton—Phone: 0415 399 806 INF Tour and Netball Co-ordinator Jo Heslop—Phone: 0415 424 594 3 Welcome from Mayor Tom Tate Gold Coast may still be catching its breath in the wake of the Commonwealth Games when fans arrive here for the 2018 International Netball Festival. We will have farewelled most of the 660,000 visitors who stopped by to enjoy the festival atmosphere during the 14 days of world-class competition. Given that netball was one of the 17 featured sports, though, some competitors may have stayed around for this exciting international competition to start. It is certainly one we enjoy here on the Coast. We first hosted the event in 2011 so this will be our seventh special occasion. It is one of the great legacy pieces from the Games that are enhancing Gold Coast’s reputation as an international sporting events capital. Our light rail system is making it easier for fans, athletes and officials to get around the city and expansion plans for the network are well advanced. The Games Village will shortly begin conversion to an eventual 200 ha Health & Knowledge Precinct with a strong core of medical research facilities, many with an orientation to athletic performance. Training facilities are greatly enhanced and proving a real attraction for international and domestic teams wanting to take advantage of our ideal weather. Combined with our natural and entertainment attractions, Gold Coast is winning gold as THE place for fans to gather and watch their favourite sports being played by the best of the best. In this spirit I welcome everyone to the 2018 International Netball Festival. It promises to be a beauty and I hope everyone has a wonderful time while enjoying the finest talents in your sport from around the world. Enjoy! TOM TATE MAYOR 4 Welcome from Councillor Daphne McDonald (Division 13 Gold Coast) As the Councillor for Division 13 of the City of Gold Coast, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2018 International Netball Festival. This Festival is set to provide participants with an opportune sporting experience set against the stunning backdrop of Queensland’s Gold Coast. Athletes of all sports and levels are at home in our well-equipped, friendly city and no doubt the four-day Netball Festival will give players a wonderful opportunity to bond and make new friends from around the world. There are a number of awards available to players - the traditional first and second. We also offer a third place for achievement in all divisions. In addition, we offer the Team Sportsmanship Award for each division. Plus there is also a special award for the Most Valued Player of each team which the coaches will nominate based on: 1) a positive player that is valued in the team and 2) a player that showed fairness, encouragement, a positive attitude, friendliness and never gave up. Have fun in competing in what we are sure will be an exciting International Netball Festival and it is events such as this that showcase our ability to put on world-class sporting events. Have a fabulous time! CR DAPHNE MCDONALD Division 13 5 Let the Games Begin We are a community based, not for profit organisation and are pleased to welcome all local teams as well as the international and interstate teams to the International Netball Festival. A big thank you to all the coaches and team managers in organising your team’s participation in this extraordinary Festival. Over the next few days our expert team will provide a Festival of high level netball, recreational activities, team bonding, friendships and more. With four competition days, participants will experience a sporting holiday in paradise. Players will have the fabulous opportunity of meeting Queensland Firebirds’ players, Laura Clemesha, Mahalia Cassidy and Kim Jenner at the Netball Clinics. Let the games begin The International Netball Festival Team An environment-friendly organisation Firebirds Laura Clemesha, Mahalia Cassidy and Kim Jenner will run the Netball Clinics Spirit of the Game Play by the rules, play fair and "in the spirit of the game of Netball". Contesting the ball is fine. Rough play will be penalised. The spirit of the game dictates that players make sure they give others on court, often opponents, a fair chance. We encourage Festival players to be good sports and applaud good plays, for your team and the opposition. Umpires are to be respected. Positive feedback only on the courts. If there are no umpires, there are no games. Spectators and players, please remember that our umpires are human beings and may miss from time to time. They will do their best. If the umpires are hassled verbally, their umpiring deteriorates. Please try and boost their confidence. We hope that this will encourage everyone to play in the true spirit of the game. 6 Awards TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for each division Umpires will rate this award after each game based on Team players Fairness to all teams Encourages all team members Positive attitude and sportsmanship Friendly to other teams and umpires Never gave up, supported their team mates 100% At the end of each game the umpires will give each team a score of 1 to 3 MOST VALUED PLAYER for each team Coaches will nominate this player based on Positive player that is valued in the team A player that showed fairness, encouragement, a positive attitude, friendliness and never gave up WINNER RUNNERS UP THIRD PLACE PARTICIPATION AWARD for all participants All players attending the International Netball Festival that do not receive a Winner’s, 2nd or 3rd place trophy, will receive a Participation Medal UMPIRES Umpires will receive awards to show our appreciation for making the games happen!
