Presidential Pole New Year’s Day BY NEIL KINKOPF • [email protected] Polar Bear Jump April in Paris? Autumn in New York? November in Poland. BY INMAN PARK POOL BOARD • INMANPARKPOOL.ORG Yes, Dear Reader, I just returned from two weeks in Warsaw. Annual Inman Park Polar Bear Jump I confess I get turnt off my jet-set lifestyle. I keep expecting Monday, January 1, 2018 to run into a Kardashian or a Hilton, but I haven’t seen even 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. one of the lesser siblings whose names you have to Google (that’d be Kourtney and Nicky). Heck, I haven’t even seen Inman Park Pool (Edgewood Avenue & Delta Place) Snooki. I guess that tells you just how far ahead of the President’s Message trends I am. And after two weeks in Poland, I am nothing if not trendy. I am now hip to all the latest dance moves, which I plan to bust out at the neighborhood Holiday Party. I guess this will make me the Holiday Party’s fi rst ever Pole dancer. I also learned an essential Polish survival skill -- how to gird myself against the cold. This should come in handy on New Year’s Day at the Pole(r) Bear Plunge.

While I have been away, the neighborhood has been busy. A bevy of volunteers has been hard at work on the aforementioned Holiday Party. I hope you will be able to stop in to the Trolley Barn on December 8. In addition to the great food and holiday cheer, there will be a live band to heat up the dance fl oor (even if you don’t know all the latest Polish waltzes that drive the kids crazy).

We also elected Amir Farokhi as the new Atlanta city council The Inman Park Pool Association invites the neighborhood to member for district 2 to succeed Kwanza Hall. Tour of Homes – ‘70 Style

The do-it-yourself urban pioneers of Inman Park had little choice Brown remembers. “They’d come and say, ‘oh, you fi nished but to be on the Tour of Homes. Festival 2018 Planning is Already Underway!

By Pat WeStriCk • FeStivaL 2018 Committee memBer • [email protected]

While all the rest of us are thinking about the upcoming holidays, neighbors who are involved in planning for the 2018 Inman Park Festival are up to their eyeballs in all the details that go into making our Festival the best in the city. Next year’s Festival is the weekend of April 27, 28 and 29, and promises to be – as always – one of the best perks of living in Inman Park!

Festival meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the home of the Festival Chairs, Cooper Pierce and Robbie Whyte-Pierce, 1009 Euclid Avenue. If you’d like to get involved in the planning process, feel free to come on by and see where your help might come in handy.

It takes a village (or in our case, a neighborhood) to pull off a weekend of food, beer, entertainment, house tours, art shopping, a wacky parade, and amazing people watching. Almost 1,000 of your neighbors volunteer for a couple of hours or more during the weekend to make sure it all goes smoothly. Don’t be left out! Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors whether you’ve Panfi lov’s Performing Pets. Photo by Alison Gordon lived here for 40 days or 40 years. Watch for the announcement of volunteer opportunities in the Advocator each month.

Once again, the Tour Committee has put together a group of homes which either haven’t been on tour in years or have never been on tour. Watch this spot for more details of what you can expect when these neighbors invite us in to see their homes! House Tour Spotlight

Inman Park Advocator 10 December 2017 Inman Park Reflection

By Lori Feig-Sandoval • Long-time Inman Park Neighbors

Days before Thanksgiving, Danny and I are reflecting on our move to Colorado and the “Tribute” our neighbors gave us; words hardly describe our emotions, but “gratitude” is a great start. What a lovely way to mark our years of engaging with our neighbors in ways that called to our interests. Many before us inspired such activism, and helped transform the ‘hood from “transitional” to ––like it or not–– “trendy,” yet still communal. Thank you all–– our hosts, the band, the many who came to the Trolley Barn and/or sent good wishes. Wow! How grateful we are for a terrific community!

Inman Park’s small-town feel results from the fact that folks thought to join forces, whether cooperating on clean-ups; establishing a credit union, the IPNA, and many committees to process neighborhood issues, host parties, publish The Advocator (key for unity), and run Festival; founding the Cooperative Preschool; preserving our neighborhood’s integrity by stopping the Expressway and creating Freedom Park; starting Tree Watch; creating Friends of Inman Park for donations; sponsoring nearby Habitat for Humanity remodeling projects; initiating our Recycle pick-up before the City did; creating groups for gourmet (or not) dinners, potlucks, book discussions, and email; all these things foster community. Lori and Danny Feig-Sandoval. Photo by James McManus

The Tribute, then, is to the folks who keep these entities a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of vibrant. In Inman Park, when one person has an idea for a project, Inman Park has effective conduits of communication, American Bicyclists, and its mild, “300 days of sunshine” established processes, and willing participants who help climate. Upon Cory’s leaving the nest, Danny and I began imagining downsizing; that way a younger family could appreciate anew our house and the ‘hood, and contribute to the community that is Inman Park. We know that Alta’s new homeowners Kate and Elliott Wood will do that, as have Mary and Ramin Saghafi, who recently bought the house we built on DeGress.

We’re certain, too, that Fort Collins is a great city for Danny and me, for a myriad of reasons–– including its award- winning, progressive government, its low-traffic layout and size, and its pretty, well-preserved, pedestrian-oriented Old Town where we do errands and socializing on foot or bike. We are outdoors year-round in Fort Collins, nicknamed “The Choice City” for more reasons than its designation as
