In order to get ahead of the digital competence framework, (due to be statutory in all schools for 2018, see learningwales for more information) teachers are planning more opportunities for pupils to develop and learn new ICT skills on a daily basis. Now pupils can save and retrieve all of their work quickly and easily. As we come to the end of September it seems fitting to wish a Happy Birthday to Ysgol Gellifor who first opened its doors this month in the year 1868. Yr wythnos hon mae pob un o’n disgyblion wedi cael USB personol i defnyddio yn yr ysgol! A huge congratulations to all who took part in the VOC cross country on Thursday. The children had a mammoth task of Attendance for last week climbing a humongous hill during their race. Ysgol Gellifor are very proud of all the pupils who took part. Well done to Arran, Rafa, Matteo, Connie, Amelia, Isabella, Anna, Megan, Steffan Attendance (1 day = 20% ½ day = and Edward for qualifying for the next round. Our classroom was full of magical gardens and the children loved showing and describing them to their classmates. Da iawn Pawb!!! Dosbarth 2 This week, Dosbarth 2 have been investigating food nutrition. As part of their Healthy Living topic, Dosbarth 2 have been looking at food groups and the nutritional value of the foods we eat. We have discussed a healthy, balanced diet and how we can incorporate those important 5-a-day fruit and vegetables! From this, they went on to use their Maths skills to find out which of their favourite foods contained the highest nutrients. Criw Cymraeg Hillary Clinton has said “I have always had a special place in my heart for Wales”. Why? Friends of the School/PTA The date of the next meeting is Friday 7th October at 3:15pm where we will be planning future events. Having decided to return to North Wales in 2013, my wife Vicky and I chose Llandyrnog both to be close to family and friends but also because of the excellent school located in the heart of the village. I’m a Civil Engineer by profession and currently work as a Project Manager on various construction schemes with experience in the private sector, public sector and consultancy. Whilst not ferrying the kids about, I’m a keen runner being a member of Denbigh Harriers and you may see me out on the Clwydians early on a Sunday morning. Having benefitted from a ‘good’ education, I’d like to bring whatever experience I have to help the Federation achieve its goals whilst providing the children with the best possible start in life. DR ELIZABETH KNEALE My name is Liz Kneale. I have two daughters. My eldest, Catrin, has recently started in the reception class. My youngest, Megan, is 20 months old.     Determination Report 1.0 Summary 1.1 The purpose of this report is to inform members about the decision required in relation to the publication of a statutory notice for: The closure of Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd on 31st August 2016, The closure of Ysgol Pentrecelyn on 31st August 2016, The Diocese of St.Asaph to open a new dual-stream Category 2, Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled primary school from 1 September 2016. 1.2 At the Cabinet meeting in September Cabinet agreed that we could consult with the Diocese, the 2 governing bodies of Ysgol Llanfair DC and Ysgol Pentrecelyn and the Welsh Government in regards to modifying the proposal- to change the date of implementation; both schools to close on the 31st August 2017, rather than 2016, and the new area school to open from 1st September 2017, rather than 2016. 1.3 We have consulted with the Diocese of St.Asaph as joint proposers to the proposal. The School Organisation Code states that we have to also consult with both Ysgol Llanfair DC and Ysgol Pentrecelyn governing bodies prior to the submission to the Welsh Government. A verbal update will be provided at the meeting. 1.4 The Council has considered a number of factors in relation to the modification. Concerns were expressed during the initial consultation over the length of time the area school would be in existence over two sites. In addition a potential delay to the timescale for implementation could arguably assist in delivering the leadership and management changes required for a new school.
