Create an Absence/OT Request (Timekeeper) 1. From the Employee Self Service home page, select the drop-down at the top of the screen, and choose Time Administration. a. Follow these instructions to add the Time Administration page/tile to your homepage. 2. Select the Time Administration tile. a. It might take a moment for the Time Administration page to load. Create Absence/OT Request (Timekeeper) | 1 3. Select the Report Employee Time tab. 4. Click on the Employee Selection arrow to make the Employee Selection Criteria section appear. Enter full or partial search items to refine the list of employees, and select the Get Employees button. a. If you do not enter search criteria and simply click Get Employees, all employees will appear in the Search Results section. Create Absence/OT Request (Timekeeper) | 2 5. Kaufman, Chair This dissertation proposes a fundamental reassessment of guilt in twentieth-century American literature. I claim that guilt ought to be understood not so much in relation to the Holocaust or the history of U.S. race relations as in relation to the state. In readings of Mary McCarthy, Richard Wright, J. D. Salinger, Arthur Miller, and Saul Bellow, as well as the early Superman comics and fiction and criticism that invoke Fyoder Dostoevsky’s work, this project demonstrates how authors of fiction and popular culture mobilize feelings of responsibility and guilt to symbolize anxieties over the diminished role of the state as a vehicle for public relief. As the federal government jettisoned burdens that it had borne since the Depression, the writers in question depict various mechanisms employed by individuals to absorb state burdens and to compensate for the reduced availability of state-backed relief. With renewed emphasis on existential categories such as guilt, freedom, and anxiety, I trace tensions at the core of mid- twentieth-century narratives that situate them squarely within the problematics of antistatism. -

Creating Unity in Community: How PVD performers create connection in virtual space and what they’ll take with them into physical space When I sat down (virtually), with three Rhode Island musicians, I had no idea their takeaways from navigating pandemic life would overlap as much as they did. For all three, Dylan Block-Harley, Chachi Carvalho and Roz Raskin, what’s most important is creating art and community in Rhode Island and beyond. This three-article series explores how having to pivot to engage with virtual programming has impacted and inspired them. The first interview in this series is with Dylan Block-Harley (MisSter Dylan), a dedicated creator and long-time Providence musician who comes from a family of performers and storytellers. When I asked him about performing in virtual spaces, he talked about a show he did with his dad Bill Harley (hands down his number one influence) and his brother Noah Block-Harley (of the Horse-eyed Men), which was livestreamed from the Columbus Theatre. Mayté Antelo-Ovando: What has the experience of performing virtually been like? Dylan Block-Harley: From talking to [my dad] it seems like the big challenge is changing your mindset from performing to an audience that’s a living creature — in the room with you, [to being] online, [where] that is removed. I think it can feel like a vacuum. The job is to switch the mentality to more of a TV sort of mindset. That’s what my dad said, “The person you’re performing to is right there.” So it’s this direct like, “Hi! How are you? You know, how are YOU doing?” Which, if you think about it, is actually a really powerful, totally different opportunity and way to connect with people. -

Uncle Billy is that really rich, old, great uncle that everybody wishes they could have. And we actually have him. Lucky us, except of course, there’s a catch. Uncle Billy is totally useless. Not that he’s useless. He’s, like, super successful and filthy rich, and if you ask (or don’t ask), he’s more than happy to tell you all about his first job and his second job and his third job and his first business and his second business and … you get the picture. To hear Uncle Billy tell it, he was working while he was still in diapers. Whatever. Like anybody cares. Because he doesn’t do what rich, lonely uncles are supposed to do - such as adopt and lavish me with all the good things in life. Okay, maybe he’s not that lonely. He’s got Aunt Rose to keep him company and listen to how wonderful he is. And truthfully, I wouldn’t be all that good at that. But still. I’d listen if I thought it was worth my while. Which it’s totally not. As he likes to point out, the only valuables I’ll ever be getting from his will are jewels of advice. -

This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas. -

Life in Two City-States Athens and Sparta 27.1 Introduction In Chapter 26, you learned that ancient Greece was a collection of city- states, each with its own government. In this chapter, you will learn about two of the most important Greek city-states, Athens and Sparta. They not only had different forms of government, but very different ways of life. Athens was a walled city near the sea. Nearby, ships came and went from a busy port. Inside the city walls, master potters and sculptors labored in work- shops. Wealthy people and their slaves strolled through the marketplace. Often the city's citizens (free men) gathered to loudly debate the issues of the day. Sparta was located in a farming area on a plain. No walls surrounded the city. Its buildings were simple and plain compared to those of Athens. Even the clothing of the people in the streets was drab. Columns of soldiers tramped through the streets, with fierce expressions behind their bronze helmets. Even a casual visitor could see that Athens and Sparta were very different. Let's take a closer look at the way people lived in these two city-states.
