Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust Created By Silentcrypt Updated 11-11-2020 1 Overview Much of the history of Earth was lost after the Third World War in 1999 when Humans nearly destroyed Earth with nuclear weapons. The Nobility, Vampires, foresaw the destruction the humans would unleash upon the world and hid themselves away in bunkers with enough supplies and technology to rebuild in the aftermath. With the world a wasteland of death and disease the Nobles emerged from their hidden shelters and set about conquering what remained. Fast forward more than 12,000 years into the future and the world has become completely unrecognizable. Creatures only heard of in myth and legend now stalk the world and beasts of unimaginable size swim through the desert wastes as if it were made of water. The Nobility, further divided into Greater Nobles and Lesser Nobles, have divided the world into Regions each ruled by a different Noble family. The humans live lives similar to something out of a sci fi western movie and are ruled by the Nobles. The Nobles care little for the humans, seeing them as nothing more than food and often people will go missing in the night without a sound. Those marked with the ‘Kiss of Nobility’ are often viewed as cursed beings bringing nothing but misfortune upon their families and communities and are often exiled due to fear. The Nobles have grown lazy in their excess and have lost much of their technology and splendor they once possessed. At the height of their power the Nobility were capable of 2 terraforming worlds, destroying planets, creating pocket dimensions, and so, so much more. The Nobility was even able to create a device that erases the memories of their weaknesses from the minds of Humans. It was once shown a human used garlic on a Noble by accident and had completely forgotten minutes later the weakness even existed. The Nobles themselves are ruled by the Sacred Ancestor. A being of unimaginable age and power rumored to have existed before the time of the dinosaurs, though it is rumored he dates to even before the Earth’s creation or even the universe itself. The Sacred Ancestor has access to a device known as the Akashic Records which is a record of all that was, is, and will be. Able to manipulate the Records, the Sacred Ancestor is capable of destroying his enemies before they can even be conceived. This is the world you now find yourself. A world where the strong prey on the weak and the darkness holds terror beyond imagination. However there is a wealth of unimaginable technology and wonder to be found here, should you be brave enough to venture into the grand castles of the Nobility. Take 1000 CP 3 Locations Much of the Earth has changed since 1999 to a point that the planet is unrecognizable. Instead of a specific location you will instead be placed within walking distance of a certain village where a girl named Charlotte will go missing. You will not arrive in enough time to prevent the kidnapping, but you will eventually run into one of the main cast. Thus giving you the opportunity to choose sides, or not to choose at all. 4 Races Human (Free) - The Humans live in constant fear of the moment the sun sets. In this world they are the cattle. As a Human you will receive the skills and powers to become a skilled Bounty Hunter. Mutant (200 CP) - After the bombs fell and the world was turned into an irradiated wasteland, many humans began to show signs of mutations. While others were simply the result of Noble experimentation. As a Mutant your kind tend to be more specialized towards assassination. Noble (400 CP) - The Nobles are the second tier of the Vampire hierarchy. They are vastly more powerful and faster than humans and their ghoulish mindless counterparts. They’re minds are more suited for a life lasting eternity. Your kind are hated and feared by the Human masses and the Greater Nobles will often outstrip you in power by an order of magnitude. As a Noble your kind are a class to your own, you can choose to be a Drop In or start within your Castle (If you bought one) as a member of the Nobility. 5 Perks As always Perks are discounted for the race you have chosen. Human Perks (Perks costing 100 are free) Hardknock Life (100) - Yours is a hard lot. Not having the advanced technology of the Nobility, the common man has had to relearn old skills for the new world. You now have knowledge of basic survival in the wilderness. This also includes such skills as hunting, fishing, cooking, camping, knowledge of weather, and all the things you would need to learn to survive in the wilderness on your own for days at a time. Marksman (200) - You are a skilled marksman capable of hitting a dime from a hundred yards with no trouble. Should you use a bow you will find your ability to knock arrows to have increased to terrifying speeds to the point that people would think you have a machine gun capable of firing arrows. Bounty Hunter (400) - You are a skilled tracker and hunter. Once you’ve laid eyes on your target you can mark them, once marked it becomes impossible for them to escape you. This mark can only be applied to a single target at a time. This also gives you above average skills in hunting and tracking in general, so that even without the mark you are skilled enough that only the most guileful individuals would be capable of escaping you. 6 Ethereal Bomber (800) - You are capable of Astrally Projecting out of your body with just a moment of focus. Once Astrally Projecting you can phase through walls and objects as well as travel at incredible speeds across great distances. However, the real prize of this power is the ability to focus and project beams of powerful energy capable of slicing through steel like a hot knife through butter. Be warned though, while in this state your body is exposed and defenseless unless you have someone to watch over you. Mutants (Perks costing 100 are free) Blending In (100) - You might be an inhuman creature, but you are skilled at blending into areas you normally wouldn’t. You have the power to hide inhuman traits and characteristics while in locations where such things could be viewed negatively. Golem The Tortureless (200) - You are extremely strong and durable. You can, at will, control the density of your musculature on the surface making you near invulnerable to blunt force trauma. Gimlet (400) - You’re fast, like super fast. You are capable of running at 300 mph. Like Gimlet you are capable of stopping mid-run to create after images of yourself that can confuse opponents. Deadly Duo (800) - Choose 1 (Can be purchased again but not at a discount). No matter which you choose you also gain the added benefit of Immortality. Benge: A shroud-encased mutant with a warped sense of humor and a kabuki-like white face and hands. He crafts illusions and ensnares his foes with a dramatic time-space warping trap. He can expand and flatten himself into a shadow-like darkness, he can move along inside shadows and can actually kill a being by attacking their shadows. His form can also absorb energy attacks like Grove's blasts. You can also expand your body at the moment of impact of an attack to absorb it as well as trap foes in a powerful illusion of an endless void. All around this is the perfect assassin power set. Caroline: Your skin becomes green and your hair becomes incredibly long. You have the power to transmute your entire body, or parts of it, into wood at will. This allows you to merge yourself with trees and travel at great speed between them. As well as giving you incredible stealth abilities in forest areas. You can also manipulate your hair into turning into wooden stakes to impale your enemies as well as causing them to extend over great distances. Trees you blend into can be controlled by your will, causing roots to shoot up and grab your foes or sending branches of sharpened stakes to pierce the hearts of your enemy easily. Caroline is also skilled in sorcery, and now you are too. Even if you should be decapitated you will be able to survive long enough to use your hair as spider limbs to reattach your head to your body and survive. 7 Noble (Perks costing 100 are free) Impossible Regeneration (100) - The Vampires of this universe have a unique ability to heal not just any wound to their body, but also to any object they are wearing. Should someone blast a hole the size of a fist into your fine Noble clothing not only will your flesh knit back together within seconds, but so too will your clothing. This also includes jewelry and armor, up to magically enchanted but not technologically advanced armor. Left Hand (200) - Your left hand now has a gaping hole within it capable of consuming an infinite amount of anything, including souls. This can be used to prevent certain creatures from resurrecting by consuming their souls or it can be used to chew through impossibly thick objects to escape situations where you might be trapped. For an additional 200 CP (Undiscounted) your left hand can be upgraded with a sapient personality. This personality will know a lot about many things across many Jumps and will be a fount of useful knowledge.

Despite its gothic trappings and origin in sensationalist fiction, Bram Stoker's Dracula, written in 1897, is a novel that looks forward. At the turn of the nineteenth century, Britons found themselves in a world of new possibilities and new perils –in a society rapidly advancing through imperialist explorations and scientific discoveries while attempting to cling to traditional institutions, men and woman struggled to make sense of the new cultural order. The genre of invasion literature, speaking to the fear of Victorian society becoming tainted by the influence of some creeping foreign Other, proliferated at the turn of the century, and Stoker's threatening depictions of the Transylvanian Count Dracula resonated with his readers. Stoker’s text has continued to resonate with readers, as further social and scientific developments in our modern world allow more and more opportunities to read allegories into the text.

William Crain directed this 1972 film. Course description: We will track the fascinating figure of the vampire this semester to find out what the fascination of figures (shapes, rhetorical tropes) and of this figure in particular could be. How is the vampire different from other monsters (cyborgs, zombies, werewolves, fairies, ghosts)? Why do we enjoy the vampire’s allure, composed of both beauty and death? (The dead rose turns up quite often as a signifier of vampires…) What textual strategies can we use for understanding vampire representations? How can vampires help us grasp narrative--and how can or does narrative help us glimpse vampires? How do sexuality, gender, race, nationality, class and ability intersect in the figures of vampires? We will read and watch key selected texts (verbal and visual) in detail, elaborating their contexts.

  • JUMP WISH-LIST Rules/Notes: Settings
JUMP WISH-LIST Rules/Notes: ● This list is solely for settings that don’t have jumps made yet. ● No jumps you want to see redone, I’m not going to go down this path. If there is any such setting mentioned on list, then as soon as it is pointed out to me, I’ll remove it. ● Settings already claimed will be either removed from list or have claim noted. I’ll accept info about claims only from the jump-maker who claimed it. ● I hope to maintain this list in such way that /tg/, SB and QQ communities can all check it out. If you don’t like something on it, just ignore it. After all, if jump is being made doesn’t mean you have to use it. Furthermore, we all have different tastes, be mindful of that. ● Fanfics will be listed separately. Some people like the idea of such jumps, some don’t. I might end up removing this section altogether just because it is so difficult to decide if certain fanfic would be acceptable for being turned into jump or not. ● Settings will be listed alphabetically within a genre, by their official name. Any other names will be included after that one. Please include genre and medium with any suggestions (e.g. KultHorror - Tabletop RPG; The Culture - Science Fiction - Novel) ● Rule of thumb – recommend settings that you would want to visit in order to interact with characters and storylines, not in order to get specific perks/powers/items. • The Hybrid Turn: What the Figure of the Vampire Hunter Tells Us About the Humanities in the Twenty-First Century
Readings - a journal for scholars and readers Volume 3 (2017), Issue 1 The Hybrid Turn: What the Figure of the Vampire Hunter Tells Us about the Humanities in the Twenty-First Century Jonathan Elmore and Rick Elmore, Savannah State University and Appalachian State University Our essay grounds the epistemological task of the vampire hunter in Stoker’s Dracula and then explores the changing representations of these figures and their task in later media including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, Blade, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, and Breaking Dawn. Traversing the realms of logic as well as representation and faith, we trace components of the epistemological task of the vampire hunter that demand a challenge to deeply held beliefs about the nature of reality and the horizon of what is possible and impossible. We close with the exciting provocation such a critique offers a (post) humanities. Introduction Two seemingly unrelated trends have been underway for the past twenty odd years: the state of the humanities in American higher education has continued to erode, and there has been a marked increase in the appearance of vampire narratives in American fiction and popular culture. We argue, quite simply, that these trends can be meaningfully connected. More specifically, throughout this piece, we demonstrate the pedagogical resonances between a certain traditional paradigm of the vampire hunters, typified in the figure of Abraham Van Helsing, and humanities professors. This paradigm figures the relationship between humans and vampires as one of antagonism, in which, humanity's response to vampires can only be one of fear and violence.

  • Underworld Vs the World of Darkness: Players and Filmgoers Respond to a Legal Battle
Networking Knowledge: Journal of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network, Vol 2, No 1 (2009) ARTICLE Underworld vs the World of Darkness: Players and Filmgoers Respond to a Legal Battle RACHEL MIZSEI WARD, University of East Anglia ABSTRACT Even before its release, Underworld (2003) had proved controversial following a legal action for copyright infringement from White Wolf, a games publisher, and Nancy A Collins, a horror writer. Reaction was marked among White Wolf fans who debated the case in forums on both gaming and film sites. A significant number of fans were deeply critical of the actions of White Wolf, and they were more concerned about being able to see ‘their’ World of Darkness on screen than demonstrating loyalty to the company. This paper will explain the case and examine the reactions of fans at the time. KEYWORDS Role-playing; film; audiences; response; Internet. In September 2003 Sony Pictures released the film Underworld. Even before its release, the film had proved controversial following a legal action for copyright infringement from White Wolf, a games publisher, and Nancy A Collins, one of their fantasy writers. White Wolf alleged that Sony had used unique elements that they had developed for their World of Darkness line of role-playing games. It was also alleged that Love Among Monsters, a short story by Nancy A Collins and written for White Wolf’s game line, had been plagiarised in the film’s plot. This paper will explain the background to this case, including an examination of fans, Gothic and the World of Darkness. Henry Jenkins argues that ‘fandom … is born of a balance between fascination and frustration: if media content didn’t fascinate us, there would be no desire to engage with it; but if it didn’t frustrate us on some level, there would be no desire to rewrite or remake it’ (Jenkins 2006: 247).

  • Introduction
1 Introduction vil—wherever belief in it is held—tends to be thought of in one of two ways. It is either a force equal to or slightly inferior to an opposing force or, as in Orthodox Christianity, the absence, E fl withdrawal, perversion, or de ection of a universal inclination called “good.” Cosmological narratives usually give it both a body and a name and situate it in a separate dark, turbulent, or alien realm. In the so- called natural world, evil may become manifest through the agency of demons or spirits. Whether such demons take on the imaginal form of beasts or humans (even when their form is not always humanly visible), the consequences of their actions are always encountered in the human sphere; that is, even when evil directs itself against animals or vegeta- tion, it is always with an eye toward disrupting the social order (e.g., husbandry, agriculture) and the dependencies of humankind on these areas of human ecology and economy. At its base, evil is a pernicious threat to human survival above all else, and it is essentially different from death itself. Whereas death is universal, evil is selective. There are countless representations and personifications of evil across history and religious and cultural systems, just as there are many images of the good and the heroic. These various images are depicted 2 / SLAYERS AND THEIR VAMPIRES in the narratives of both official and folk religions, mythology and folk- lore, as well as, even quite recently, in the secular metaphors of politi- cal and ideological discourse.

Indeed, since the publication of Dracula the book has been printed in almost every language and hundreds of adaptations have appeared in film. The vampire also owes much of its genuine acceptance and popularity to Anne Rice’s series, The Vampire Chronicles, which are written from the vampires’ perspectives and wherein the vampires share their points of view. Since the publication of Rice’s Chronicles, the myth has become so popular in Western society that a subculture of vampire enthusiasts spans from fans of vampire fiction and film to those who claim to be real vampires (The Secret Lives of Vampires).
