AQAR- 2015-2016 BEST PRACTICES Practice I:

1. Title of the Practice: To generate atmosphere for Research and Development

2. Goal: The main objective of this best practice is to generate a research environment inside the college campus. All the young faculty members are motivated by senior teachers as well as also by the authority to get involved with research related activities.

3. Context: In spite of different obstructions there is a healthy competitive environment among the teachers of Women’s college. As a result seminar, work shop is being regularly organized. Faculty members of various departments are also keen to publish their research works in various national/international journals as well as books from various leading publication Houses. Moreover, teachers are engaged in minor research projects funded by UGC.

4. The Practice: i) Senior teachers and authority motivate young teachers to approach to various funding agencies for major and minor research proposals as well as also for seminar/workshops. ii) All faculties are always interested in surfing different journals through Google, archive and INFLIBNET regularly. iii) There is a constant thrust to improve the arena of knowledge and to widen the ideas through the mode of interactions among eminent researchers, experts in pioneering research fields during workshops and special lecture sessions.

5. Evidences of Success: In the last one year, faculty members of this college worked hard to create opportunity to carry out research works. The faculty members of Science and Arts departments are pursuing their research activities and published many papers in reputed International and National Journals. Practice II:

1. Title of the Practice: “Women Empowerment”

2. Goal: The main goal of this practice is to empower women i.e. to make the lesser privileged women stronger, to thrive best in the society. Women’s College is a firm believer that Women make a family, society and hence the nation; so, in true sense women is a real nation builder.

3. Context: Ever since its inception in June 1965, Women’s College has been rendering its services for the upliftment of girls. Along with imparting value based education, the institution adopts many practical and noble ways to make the women strong, mentally as well as physically. Social issues like gender discrimination, human rights, dowry, casteism, domestic violence, etc. are discussed by guest lecturers, by external experts and also by the faculty members whenever required.

5. Evidences of Success:

a) Department of Philosophy, Women’s College, has organized a programme on “Women’s Education” on 27thNov. 2015 at Smart class room. On this occasion, a popular talk was delivered by Swami Hitakamananda MaharajJi, Ramakrishna Mission, , Tripura on “Bharatia Nareer Siksa o Swanirbharatay Swami Vivekananda o Bhagini Niveditar Abadan”. b) On 1.12.2015, another Popular Talk was delivered by Smt. AparnaDey, Representative from Tripura Mahila Commision, on “ Social impact of dowry system”, which was also organised by the Department of Philosophy, Women’s College. c) On 4.12.2015, Department of Education, Women’s College, has organized a programme on “Women Empowerment” where a popular lecture was delivered by Smt. Anjana Bhattacharjee, Ex- Associate professor, Education Dept. d) Department of Sociology, Women’s college has organised a special lecture on “Women Empowerment”on 24th December, 2015 where Smt. Sharmila Chhotaray and Dr. Surajit Sen Gupta were the resource persons. e) On 28.01.2016, Department of Political science, Women’s College, has organized a programme on “Human rights in Indian perspective”. Smt. Aparna Dey, Representative from Tripura Mahila Commission, and Prof. Reena Datta delivered the lectures. f) An “Outreach Program for Community” was organized by the Department of Geography (Science Forum programme) at Debendra Nagar Gram Panchayat, under Jirania R.D. Block, West Tripura on 14th December, 2015 on “Cleanliness”. The programme focused on the importance of cleanliness of house and surroundings and also emphasized on children’s health and hygiene. To stop using open space for toileting, using soap for washing hand before and after eating, after toilet, etc. were highlighted. g) Another “Outreach Program for Community” was organized by the Department of Human physiology (Science Forum programme) at Goalabasti, Lichubagan, Capital Complex, Agartala. The theme of this programme was “Assessment of Nutritional Status on the basis of BMI” and spreading the consciousness of hygiene among the inhabitants of that area, targeting the rural and poor people of that area. Enthusiastic team member along with their teachers have conducted the programme very successfully. Several Blood Donation Camps are organized by NSS Unit of Women’s College. h) National Cadet Corps (NCC), Women’s College Unit also participated in various programmes as listed below:

Some of the individual achievements of students of physical education and sports science are as under: (1) Ms. Dipa Kamakar, just passed out student of Women’s College is selected for Olympic Games at Rio. (2) Ms. Rizu Saha is a regular member of Indian National Cricket Team (Women)
