Volume 30, Number 2 Queen Anne High School Alumni Association August 2011 Oct. 22 Fall Luncheon Celebrates QAHSAA’s 30th Special Auction Planned By Glo (Gleason) Holcomb ’46 It’s hard to think ahead to fall 2011, but it will come whether summer ever comes to Seattle or not. So, mark your calendar for Sat., Oct 22, 2011 at the Seattle Yacht Club, starting at 11:30 a.m. Remember “The Last Hurrah”? Another big celebration is coming up for the Queen Anne High School Alumni Association as it turns 30 this year. The Fall Luncheon will mark this milestone. There will be the usual raffle, but this year we are adding an auction of Queen Anne memorabilia and other neat items. So start filling that piggy bank. Look around to see if you have some Queen Anne memorabilia or anything else you’d like to donate. Call Glo Holcomb, (206) 783-9936, to donate or for questions. See page 15 for a registration coupon, or register online at www.qagrizzlies.org. The deadline is Oct. 11. 30 Scholarships Awarded Feed the Bears Sunday, Aug. 14 at Gas Works Park!!! From Our QAHSAA President Having just completed my 50th anniversary with Seattle Public Library in May, I look for- ward to the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1961 Oct. 1, at the Overlake Golf and Country Club. A preliminary Act the day before is a gathering of the Coe School Class of 1955 (6th grade) who are among the 1961 alums. See reunion page for details. Before then are two of our regular alumni events. First is the Magnolia Summerfest and parade, on July 30th (opens July 29), with Grizzlies once again actively marching in the parade. If you are willing to join the marchers, call Jackie Zobrist at (206) 285-0582 or Kim Turner at (206) 706-4184 or check the website. What a year this has been! The Spring Luncheon at the Seattle Yacht Club brought over 120 alums and former teachers together, for an afternoon of pleasant conversation and a wonderful group of raffle items and logo materials. The new mug will make its appearance at our second summer event, the August 14th picnic, which has been moved back to Gas Works Park, due to heavy main- tenance on the John Hay School, which had been our first choice. We were lucky to get the Gas Works park location, as our request was not in as early as past years. The October 22nd Fall Luncheon will be at the Seattle Yacht Club and we are looking for volunteers to help make it another success. The Fall Luncheon will begin the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the closing of Queen Anne High School and the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Queen Anne High School Alumni Association. It will also be the event at which board members will be elected for the positions which are due to become vacant. Think about the possibilities…. Kim R. Turner ’61 Acknowledgements Once again, our thanks to our Board and regular supporters for the hours they put in on the KUAY, the website, handling merchandise, organizing luncheons and picnics, donating raffle baskets and many other tasks.
