Over the next ten years big changes are expected in the Carkeek forest, particularly due to the over-mature Alder/Maple forest declining. Updating this document in response to those changes will likely need to occur every five years. RECOMMENDATION The non-forested units in Carkeek Park include unique wetland and riparian habitat, valuable to salmon and other wildlife. A management plan to address those units would make an excellent companion to this document. Plant Amnesty has agreed to lay the groundwork for a public garden at the site. It was determined that all the work of the landscaping, with the exception of the trees, could not be seen from the public rights of way because of the height of an existing retaining wall therefore only the planting of the trees along Prospect Ave would require a certificate of approval. At the time of the original site visit the applicant was still determining the species of trees to propose. Ms. Chick has now reviewed the species of tree and recommended approval. Applicant Comment: Dominic Barrera, Plant Amnesty, and Jack Bausch presented and noted the site is 1.23 acres. -
