Ministry Accomplishments SINGLES MINISTRY Our ministry is focused on the healthy fellowship of single christians whose purpose is to uplift one another. The Singles Ministry has participated in social events such as Game Night and Coffee Talks. Quarterly events are being planned, with our next event being a Movie Night and Dinner on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Stay tuned for further details closer to date! YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY The Young Adult Ministry is dedicated and focused on individual growth and social transformation through living in the message and carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ. This ministry is dedicated to developing and strengthening our church’s global ministry network through mission service projects. We also are devoted to our local community by serving our children through mentorship programs and our elders in the community by serving them on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Young Adult Ministry kicked off 2019 with the theme “Lord, Make Me Better” along with a quarterly Bible study series that has 4 areas of focus rooted in the church’s mission statement. • 15 Young Adults served our brother and sisters in Ethiopia on a tremendous medical mission trip • Presented the Church with a special Coptic cross from Ethiopia followed by a special coffee ceremony and fellowship with the local Ethiopian community • Hosted a Silence The Shame Bible Study that focused on mental health and wellness featuring Shanti Das as our lead. • Hosted an evening with Mrs. Xernona Clayton, President/CEO of the Trumpet Awards, where we sat at our elders feet and listened to her stories of faiths and testimonies of hope, and words of encouragement to the young adults. She hosted us in her office. • Every 3rd Saturday of the month, we serve our elders by spending the day with them and helping around the house and yard. CHILDREN’S MINISTRY 2019 Theme: “Be the Light” Matthew 5:14-16 The A. D. Williams King Chapel for Children, fondly referred to as Children’s Chapel, fosters the continued growth of elementary-aged children in grades Pre-K-8th. Children engage in their own interactive Sunday worship experience during the 11:00 a.m. service on Sundays September through June. Additionally, there are a myriad of opportunities to participate in ministries such as the Children’s Choir; Girl, Cub and Boy Scouts; liturgical dance; drama ministry; and Jr. Deacons Program. Sunday worship for children is held in the Educational Building. Registration begins at 10:45 a.m. Children’s Chapel ends when service in the Horizon sanctuary ends. Parents should pick up their children immediately following the service. Since being hired in July, 2018, Minister Chelsea D. Waite, Assistant Pastor for Children’s Ministry, has been focused on understanding The Christian Education Building the needs of the parents and improving the experience of Children’s Chapel. Below, are a few examples: • Security: In an effort to maintain the best security for our children, we have established a safety evacuation plan that is given to all parents at the beginning of the Chapel year. Evacuation plans are placed in classrooms and throughout the hall. During Children’s Chapel, we have a police officer present to ensure the safety of the children and building. Additionally, all volunteers have gone through a background check process and we’ve upgraded our check-in process to a more efficient system. • Curriculum: Children’s Chapel as a whole now uses the Deep Blue Curriculum. This urban based curriculum is applicable to children of all ages. This curriculum not only focuses on biblical stories, but also practical application. Tiara Bracey, New Nursery Coordinator • Nursery Coordinator: As of October 2018, Minster Waite hired a new Nursery Coordinator, Tiara Bracey. Our Nursery is for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Every Sunday, our Nursery Coordinator, Tiara Bracey, teaches lessons that the children are able to apply in a practical way. Tiara uses the Deep Blue Nursery curriculum that encompasses songs to sing with our children, pictures for them to color, and visuals for them to follow the lesson. Tiara’s goal is to begin to include parents on the weekly lessons so that the learning does not end in Nursery, but so that our children can practice what they have learned. • L.I.N.K.S (Leading Into New Knowledge Spiritually): Our LINKS include Middle School students in sixth-eighth grade. Kerri Palmer is our LINKS Coordinator. Weekly, our LINKS’ volunteers strive to expose our students to a world they may not be aware of. For example, our LINKS had the opportunity to engage in an interfaith conversation with students from Congregation Shearith Israel. Many students enjoyed this opportunity, as it allowed our students to go beyond their comfort zones. Second Sundays - Children’s Choir This has been an incredible year for the Children’s Ministry at Ebenezer. As we bring this Chapel year to a close, we are grateful for the ways in which God has strengthened our children. We look forward to preparing for a mission trip to La Romana, Dominican Republic for our middle and high school students. Once we return, we will rejuvenate and seek God for the vision for next year. God has brought us thus far along the way and we are Fourth Sundays - Faith & Fitness forever grateful!
