Somewhat predicting future developments Eyre reported the discovery of vast "Iron Stone" hills. Permanent settlement of the area had to wait another 25 years. In 1854 James Patten was granted a pastoral and grazing lease over Corunna Hill, 7 kilometres North East of present day Iron Knob. The year 1880 saw a Caltowie wheat buyer named Ernst Siekman supplying large quantities of flour to the rapidly burgeoning lead, silver and zinc mining community at Broken Hill. Aware of the possibilities of new mining ventures Ernst Siekman, his wife and other family members pegged out a lease at Iron Knob.

  • Newsletter 5 – November 2020
Perth to Sydney Newsletter 5 – November 2020 Newsletter time has come around again and for a change we have some real progress on the event. This month the feature photo is the fabulous Curnamona Station old homestead from our visit there in 2018. You can look forward to arriving outside this Passage Control to be greeted by the original 1968 London Sydney Control Banner. Route Checking Over the last two months we have made real progress with route checking on the ground across WA and from the WA Border to Broken Hill in NSW. Barry Lloyd and his mate Andrew have had another productive visit to the section south of Marvel Loch to Lake King as the photos posted on Facebook showed. We do know that the route is accessible with a bit of work to make the roads trafficable. Local Council negotiations are taking place to hopefully have the “gnarly” bits repaired and maybe a quick clearance of fallen trees. If the work is too much we have options in play to get us through. In early November when the SA border finally opened we made a dash to Border Village on the WA border and back to Broken Hill to check out the sections and meet with local dignitaries and property owners along the route. The 186Kms of the Old Eyre Highway is accessible from Border Village to Nullabor Roadhouse and negotiations are occurring with the Yalata Community to access the road through their Native Lands. The approval obtained previously from FWCAC in Ceduna proved to be invalid.

  • Golf Tournament 2020
Teague Tours presents: Nullarbor Links “Chasing the Sun” Golf Tournament 2020 It is with enormous pleasure that I present the opportunity for you, your partner, family and friends to join me on this never forgotten, unachievable elsewhere in the World golf tournament…an all time “Bucket List” event. Travel with me from Adelaide to Perth joining another 60 participants on an incredible 12 day adventure incorporating some of the most breath-taking and, at times, desolate country the World has to offer. Imagine “ticking off” this event and be able to boast at your next dinner party that you have participated in, as well as completed, the Longest Golf Course in the World tournament, some 1365 kms in length. Player numbers for my group is limited to 8 only, however, I’d love to have extra non-players join in as we travel across the Nullarbor from Adelaide to Perth in my very comfortable Mercedes-Benz & trailer. Double and twin share accommodation is preferred due to numbers on tour. Highlights include:- 12 Days/11 Nights of serious fun and adventure, staying in some incredible places and experiencing outback hospitality like no other country can offer. Playing some of the World’s most remote golfing holes but not before experiencing fine food & wine in the Clare Valley and pristine oysters and seafood from South Australia’s Far West Coast. Imagine golf incorporating seafood, wine, bush dances, a Pirate treasure hunt, welcoming dinner, karaoke night, theatre evening and a “Dinner Jacket & Tie” finale dinner before completing our tour in Perth. I’m excited about this once in a lifetime experience and hope you, your partner, family and friends feel the same.
