Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, the RFDS delivers emergency aeromedical and essential primary health care services to people who live, work and travel throughout Australia, every day (and night) of the year. Established in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Nationally, its vital services are delivered via a fleet of 75 aircraft, through the operation of 24 aeromedical bases and six remote primary health facilities across the country. Today the RFDS delivers more than 300,000 patient contacts across Australia every year – that’s one person every two minutes.
