Dear Colleagues,

It gives me immense pleasure to host the 16th IPA International Congress (IPA 2013) in Seoul, Korea from October 1st to 4th, 2013. On behalf of the IPA 2013 Organizing Committee, I extend a very warm and cordial invitation to all of you.

IPA has held International Congresses since it was founded in 1982. As the most highly ac- claimed meeting in the field of mental health and aging for older people, IPA 2013 is expected to draw participants from around the world. Han Yong Jung Chair 16th Congress of International Under the theme “Towards Successful Aging: Harmony of Mental, Physical and Social Life,” a Psychogeriatric Association wide range of scientific programs will be organized. Advances in the treatment of dementia, depression and other mental disorders in the elderly and the improvement of quality of care will be discussed and explored in a diverse, multidisciplinary and open forum. We are assembling internationally renowned groups of scientists and clinicians (all experts in their field) to contribute to the core program while also providing opportunities for bright, promising young research- ers to present their data and new ideas. The program will be comprehensive, stimulating, and informative.

Who Should Attend the Congress Convened every two years, the International Congress has been designed for everyone working within the field of mental health for older people, including: Psychiatrists, Neurologists, Geriatricians, Psychologists, Primary Care Physicians, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Scientists, and other healthcare professionals in the Psychogeriatric field. IPA’s strength is in the diversity of its program, its speakers and... its members.

Travel and Visa A valid passport is required to enter Korea. In some cases, a visa is required. Please check with the Korean Consulate or diplomatic mission in your country for more information.

Banking The currency is the Korean Won(₩). Foreign banknotes and traveler’s checks can be exchanged at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money changers. Travelers are encouraged to carry limited amounts of currency with them as all major credit cards are widely accepted. Visitors are also encouraged to use ATMs located inside hotels or banks.

Electricity The standard electricity supply is 220 volts AC/60 cycles. Most hotels may provide outlet converters for 110 and 220 volts. Participants are recommended to check with the hotel beforehand.

Time Zone Korea is 9 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +9) and does not follow daylight savings time.

Tip and Tax Service charges are included in your bills for rooms, meals and other services at hotels and upscale restaurants. Koreans occasionally do tip when they are especially pleased with the service they receive. Foreign tourists can receive a 10 % VAT refund for purchases at Duty Free shops. Goods must be taken out of Korea within three months of purchase to be eligible for a tax refund. Visitors can receive a refund on a receipt for a minimum purchase of KRW 50,000 (around USD 43). To receive this refund, present receipts with the purchased goods at the customs clearance desk at Incheon International Airport when departing.
