I Three Holiday Homes for rent in the popular Costa del Sol resort of Nerja Nerja: A very popular resort, readily accessible from Malaga and its international airport, with motorway access to within a mile of the town centre. Nestling on the foothills of the mountains, the old town, with its narrow vehicle restricted cobbled streets, offers a more relaxed holiday from that found in the more fashionable resorts of the Costa del Sol. The beachfront has a large choice of shops, bars and restaurants, including the locally well known Ayo’s. With other small picturesque beaches, the famous 'Balcon de Europa' promenade, numerous small shops, bars and restaurants, plus its wonderful all year round climate, Nerja has something for everyone, especially families and the more mature holidaymaker. However, there are some fairly steep roads and walkwa ys, so it may not be suitable for those with walking or breathing difficulties. It has become an all-year resort, with only the business centre and major supermarkets closing for Public Holidays . We h ave a wide selection of Nerja pictures in the Nerja Gallery, plus a location map showing our properties. There is more about Nerja on the Andalucia regional site, the town's own site, the local English language monthly web magazine Soltalk, or news site Nerja Today. Excursions & Activities: The Nerja Caves , one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions, are well worth a visit. Discovered in 1969, an extensive network of fascinating underground caverns with the World's biggest stalactites, plus an auditorium and stage regularly used for music concerts and arts festivals. Nearby is Maro, a picturesque village with panoramic views across the sea and a small secluded beach, invisible from the cliff-top. The mountains shelter many small attractive villages, notably Frigiliana with its restored Moorish town, Competa, the 'Pearl of the Axarquia', the restored 'lost' hamlet of Acebuchal originally abandoned in 1948 and the cliff-top village of Comares. For more local excursions, maybe a trip to Malaga and the Picasso Museum . Marbella and Puerto Banus also provide a great day out, as do visits to Mijas , Antequera and the El Torcal National Park . Further afield is the historic city of Granada with the famous Alhambra Palace (pre-booking advisable), plus the spectacular ski area of Sierra Nevada . Andalucia is also home to the cities of Cordoba and Sevilla as well as the beautiful town of Ronda . The nearest golf course is 'Baviera', about twenty minutes away near Velez Malaga. The nearest waterpark is ‘Aqua Velis’, also at Velez-Malaga, almost opposite the ‘Eroski’ hypermarket. For a more action-packed holiday, the Nerja Dive Centre, along Burriana Beach, offers a wide choice of water activities. Car Hire: There are a number of companies operating from the new airport car park or from offices just outside the airport (which require a transfer bus). We use Tony's Rent a Car or Dragon Cars, as they meet you outside the new arrivals hall and keep their cars right outside. In addition, neither company uses the controversial system of upfront payment for a full tank of top-price fuel. Whatever company, nearly all have websites with on-line booking in English, or use comparison sites which will search for the best deals. From the exit of Malaga Airport, there is a high-level dual carriageway link to the A7 motorway, which passes within a mile of Nerja town centre. Malaga is about 34 miles (55 km.) from Nerja, the airport is about 6 miles (10km) further on, taking about 50 minutes to drive. If you just want daily hire, our agent in the resort will be able to advise, or browse the small ads at the back of the magazines in our properties. Driving: Brittany Ferries have crossings from both Plymouth and Portsmouth to Santander, then the drive down from Northern Spain is about 630 miles. To plan your route, we suggest you look at the Mapquest site. Just type in your postcode and the postcode of Nerja (29780) and receive a door-to-door route map. www.nerja-sun.com Page 2 of 3 Taxis: As a service only for guests renting our properties, our Agent in Nerja can book a taxi or a minibus (most vehicles with air conditioning), whereby the driver meets you just outside the baggage reclaim exit. The cost one-way is around €69 for a taxi up to 4 people, €105 for a minibus up to 8 or €125 for up to 12. Fares are set by the local authority and payable to the driver in cash (€), however there is no charge for making the reservation. We can also organise transport from Malaga Railway Station, same cost as from the airport. Once in and around Nerja, a local taxi journey will cost between €5 and €8, plus €1 after 10pm and weekends. Buses: The service between Nerja and Malaga Bus Station (adjacent to the railway station), is approximately every hour, with a half hour service from the bus station to the airport. There is no direct link from Nerja to the airport, though any inconvenience changing buses is offset by the economical cost of the journey. Nerja does not have a visible bus station, the buses start and terminate at the lay-bys adjacent to one of the roundabouts on the old N340 in the centre of town (near the petrol station).
