Cette dernière aide à mieux connaître toutes les ressources biologiques (végétales, animales, …) afin de comprendre leur potentiel dans le monde pour le bien être de l’homme et pour un environnement vivable aux générations futures. Objectifs du cours de Floristique est de présenter : - les concepts, principes et méthodes de la systématique - un choix de familles d’embryophytes marocaines et cela sur la base de leurs caractères morphologiques ainsi que leur usage potentiel, ceux-ci dans une séquence phylogénétique basée sur les derniers résultats de la systématique moléculaire. The phylogenetic relationship among fourteen different tuber-producing orchid species was investigated after analyzing phenotypic and genetic variation within and among the natural population through fifteen morphometric traits and ten random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primer combinations. Statistical analyses (principal component analysis (PCA), principal coordinate analysis (PCoA), and cluster analysis) using the generated data identified taxonomic and genetic distance within the studied plant samples. The results of PCA from morphological traits show that there are no major groupings within and among different species instead somehow overlapping with few distinctly characterized species. In addition, the UPGMA-based phenogram with Euclidean distance (0–1) produces five major clusters among the studied orchid species according to their taxonomic status with few exceptions. On the other hand, PCoA and the phylogenetic dendrogram with the coefficient (0.56–0.79) from RAPD band profiles determine the true genetic diversity of those species. -

Cyprus in Spring Holiday Report 5 - 13 March 2018 Led by Yiannis Christofides Ophrys Kotschyi © Alex Hyde Greenwings Wildlife Holidays Tel: 01473 254658 Web: www.greenwings.co.uk Email: [email protected] ©Greenwings 2018 Introduction The main focus of this spring tour was to enjoy a good sample of the diversity of plants and other wildlife for which Cyprus is famous. The following is an outline of the week with a daily diary, followed by a gallery and species list. Day 1: 5th March The first guests arrived with the early afternoon flight, Marie-Jose having arrived the day before. After collecting people from the airport a short stop was made at Timi beach to see our first plants and also butterflies. The season was early and the weather unusually warm so there were many flowers out. We saw Matthiola tricuspidata, Centaurea aegialophila, Echium angustifolium. Helichrysum stoechas and Phagnalon rupestre. Greenfinch and Spanish sparrows were in the nearby trees and Hooded crows in the fields. We also saw the first Sardinian Warbler. We then boarded our mini-bus and made another stop to see Spur-winged Plover. White wagtails were present as well. We then headed for Paphos and our hotel, going out to dinner. The late arrivals were met by our driver Astero and joined us later. Day 2: 6th March A day of archaeology, plants and birds today. We didn't have long to travel, so after picking up our picnics we disembarked at the Tombs of the Kings. The site is excellent for plants so we set about identifying the first plants we found. -

Many terrestrial orchids are currently at great risk for extinction as a result of a multiplicity of threatening processes. We focus on orchid seed germination capabilities in vitro, specifically germination capability of a threatened species, Anacamptis palustris, compared to three other more common species (A. laxiflora, A. morio, and A. papilionacea), and also discuss its potential impact on orchid distribu- tion and conservation. Asymbiotic germination tests were performed with mature seeds using BM-1 medium. In vitro seed germination and protocorm developmental stages were evaluated up to 20 weeks after sowing. Significant differences in seedling development were detected among the species, and a correlation was evident between the rarity of the species and their germinability. Thus, the presence of intrinsic, biological factors that affect and limit the distribution of A. palustris may exist. -

L. C. M. Richard in Turkey were investigated in this study. Plant materials of A. pyramidalis were provided from 21 native populations between 2007 and 2009 in Turkey, and their localities were recorded. A. pyramidalis samples were evaluated within 19 morphological, 20 anatomical, and 18 soil characters & habitat properties. The findings of this study are as follows: The plant length was minimum 248 mm and maximum 655 mm, underground part length minimum 23 mm and maximum 140 mm, and number of leaves change between 2 and 14. The leaves were tetrastic, had no trichomes. In surface section of the leaves, the cuticle thickness (abaxial and adaxial), epidermis cell size (abaxial and adaxial) stomata dimensions and stomata index were measured. The epidermal cells’ rows were parellel to the midrib. In cross sections of the leaves, upper epidermis was larger than lower epidermis. Vascular bundles were collateral and consist of xylem, phloem and sclerenchyma cells. -

Based on natural selection, mutation and genetic drift, speciation occurs simultaneously in organisms linking them in complexes webs called ecosystems. Clarify what a species is, it is the first step to understand the biology of orchids and start protection actions especially in a fast changing world due to human impact such as habitats fragmentation and climate changes. I use the biological species concept (BSC) to investigate the presence and eventually the strength of mechanisms that limit the gene flow between close related taxa. -
