She was the first Australian to be named IAAF Best Female Athlete in the World (2011), an achievement she followed up by winning Gold and setting a new Olympic record in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Sally is a great role model for young Australians. Comfortable in front of a camera and at ease behind a microphone on stage, she is passionate about animals, Australia, athletics and her family. Importantly, Sally wants to make a difference. More about Sally Pearson: At 17, Sally Pearson wanted desperately to be Australia’s next track and field champion. She knew that it would take hard work, dedication and a commitment that is beyond most teenagers’ comprehension. To her credit this did not daunt her. In 2008 at the Beijing Olympic Games, Sally burst onto the World stage, winning the Silver Medal at her first Olympic Games. Sally’s lead up to the Games had been impressive and she had set her sights on making the final of the 100m Hurdles. The adrenalin of the competition, the jubilation of winning Silver and her now famous post-race interview will be lasting memories of the Beijing Olympic Games for many Australians. By the time she was 20, Sally had anchored Australia’s 4 x 100m Relay Team at the Worlds and was Australia’s champion at 100m sprints and the 100m hurdles.

For the avoidance of doubt, the “Selectors” referred to throughout this Policy is the Athletics Australia National Selection Panel appointed by the Board of Athletics Australia from time to time. Also, the reference to “Head of High Performance Systems” means the person in that role or their nominee from time to time and reference to “Head of Performance and Coaching” means the person in that role or their nominee from time to time. 1 Aims of Policy and overview of Selection process The aim of Athletics Australia’s Selection Policy (“Policy”) for the World Championships is to nominate the most competitive possible team to represent Australia. The policy is aligned with the Sport Australia High Performance Strategy and the Athletics Australia Strategic Plan to achieve medals, supported by additional top eight places, at the Olympic Games and IAAF World Athletics Championships. Specifically, the policy aims to facilitate the following outcomes (“Aims”): • Nominate the most competitive possible team to represent Australia; • Selecting athletes and relay teams with the realistic potential to win a medal or finish in the top 8 in Doha; and • Providing major Championships experience to likely 2020 Olympic Games medallists and top 8 finishers. The process for selection under this Policy is that the Selectors will consider selecting (i) athletes that have qualified according to the criteria set out in this Policy and then (ii) any athletes offered a “Roll Down” invitation.

General Principles 1.1 The IAAF Diamond League shall include the best invitational outdoor athletics meetings in the world. 1.2 Regulations governing the IAAF Diamond League shall be issued to the IAAF Diamond League Meeting Organisers (the Organiser) and may be amended every year by the IAAF, in agreement with Diamond League AG. 1.3 The precise requirements are defined hereunder. 1.4 Meeting Directors agree to respect all Rules, Regulations and decisions taken by the General Assembly of the Diamond League AG. 1.5 At least one person from the host country National Federation, selected in agreement with the Organising Committee, must be co-opted onto the Organising Committee for liaison purposes. 1.6 The IAAF Diamond League Calendar 2018 can be found in Appendix 1. 1.7 Formal Application for an IAAF Permit shall be submitted as follows: on the appropriate Application Form; countersigned by the Meeting Director and the host National Federation; by the deadline set by the IAAF. 1.8 No application shall be considered if Diamond League requirements were not met in 2017 and/or if they are not guaranteed for 2018. 2.
