While he was an active and a keen sportsman in his own right enjoying competing before, during and after his active service during the Second World War Joe was also a great believer in offering children a range of activities that was an extension of the traditional games of Cricket, Rugby and Football that was generally offered. Jack Williams Jack Williams has been teaching at Ernest Bevin College for over 30 years and was until recently Head of PE. In that time he has helped to develop hundreds, if not thousands of students, and inspire in them a passion for sport. Over the years Jack has coached many sporting teams and enjoyed considerable success. The number of cups and medals in the Bevin’s trophy cabinet is testament to the high standards he sets for his own teams and others run by the department. He is a keen sportsman in his own right with a passion for rugby and football. Jack has always been a pillar or strength to the team he led in the PE department and we are fortunate that he now offers that support across the College as Special Projects Manager. In recognition of his unswerving passion and commitment to sport at Ernest Bevin, the Sportsman of the Year Award has been renamed in his honour and will be known as the ‘Jack Williams Award’. The PE Department would like to thank all the staff and students who have helped with the Sports Awards Evening.
