Match background

After ending an 18-year wait for a victory on Italian soil only last September, FC Bayern München have to repeat the trick when they visit the Giuseppe Meazza for a second time this term for their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against AC Milan.

• Bayern had suffered six straight losses in Italy before Claudio Pizarro and Lukas Podolski secured a 2-0 win at FC Internazionale Milano in the group stage in September. Repeating the feat against Inter's neighbours is a daunting-looking challenge, however, given Milan have won 15 of their last 18 UEFA Champions League home fixtures – including a 4-1 triumph against Bayern in the first knockout round last season.

• Milan won through to their sixth successive quarter-final thanks to a 1-0 aggregate victory against Celtic FC in the first knockout round. After a goalless draw in Glasgow, the Rossoneri finally broke down Celtic's resistance through a Kaká goal three minutes into extra time in the return. It was the Brazilian's sixth UEFA Champions League goal of 2006/07.

• Bayern overcame Real Madrid CF in the first knockout round, advancing on the away goals rule after a 4-4 aggregate draw. Despite losing 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu, the goals scored there by Lucio and Mark van Bommel ultimately proved decisive after Bayern's 2-1 second-leg success. Roy Makaay opened the scoring in Munich with a first-minute goal - the fastest in UEFA Champions League history - and Lucio added a second after 66 minutes before Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy replied with a late penalty.

• Milan have won three of their four UEFA Champions League home fixtures this term. In the group stage they defeated AEK Athens FC 3-0 and RSC Anderlecht 4-1 before losing 2-0 to LOSC Lille Métropole with qualification already assured.

• Prior to losing in Madrid, Bayern were undefeated on their European travels this season. Besides beating Inter, they won 1-0 at Sporting Clube de Portugal and drew 2-2 at FC Spartak Moskva.

• Bayern's overall record at Italian opposition is poor, with seven defeats and three victories from ten visits. On the positive side, they won the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League final in Milan, with a 5-4 success on penalties against Valencia CF after a 1-1 draw.

• Milan have an impressive record against German teams at San Siro with 12 wins and just two defeats from 15 encounters. All four previous home meetings with Bayern have produced victories – most recently, that 4-1 success in the last 16 on 8 March last year. Filippo Inzaghi (2), and Kaká were Milan's scorers on a night where Valérien Ismaël's goal provided no consolation for a Bayern side beaten 5-2 on aggregate.

• Milan's subsequent semi-final loss to FC Barcelona meant that for the first time a victory against Bayern had failed to provide a stepping stone to European success. The Rossoneri defeated the German club in the semi-finals of both the 1967/68 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and 1989/90 European Champion Clubs' Cup and also both home and away in the first group stage of the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League. All three campaigns ended with silverware for Milan.

• Bayern's only victory in eight attempts against their Italian rivals came in the second leg of the 1989/90 European Cup semi-final. They won 2-1 in Munich but were still eliminated on away goals having gone down 1-0 at San Siro. Milan veteran appeared in both of those games.

• The Milan trio of Gennaro Gattuso, Alberto Gilardino and Andrea Pirlo last lined up against Bayern's Philipp Lahm, Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger in last year's FIFA World Cup semi-final between Germany and Italy in Dortmund, which the Azzurri won 2-0.

• Van Bommel, suspended for the first leg of this tie, was in the PSV Eindhoven side beaten in the last four by Milan in 2005.

• The second leg will be played on 11 April in Munich. The winners will go through to face either AS Roma or Manchester United FC in the semi-finals on 24/25 April and 1/2 May.

• The result was Bayern's seventh away Bundesliga defeat this season and the club's fifth reverse overall in all competitions since the turn of the year.

• "Something is not right," said Hitzfeld. "We have been blinded by the good matches against Madrid and Bremen. We don't have that winner's mentality and lack the instinct to finish off an opponent. We are still dreaming of the title but are not even in a Champions League [qualifying] spot, and that is dangerous. We have to show character and be aggressive in every match, not only the big ones."

• Should Bayern not qualify for the UEFA Champions League for next season they would miss out for the first time since 1996/97.

• Bayern have already signed three new players for next season - 23-year-old attacking midfielder Jan Schlaudraff from TSV Alemannia Aachen, versatile 24-year-old Turkish international Hamit Altintop from FC Schalke 04 and Argentinian midfielder José Ernesto Sosa from Club Estudiantes de la Plata. • The 22-year-old Michael Rensing is in line to deputise for the suspended Kahn against Milan. "That would be the highlight of my career. I have played some games in the Bundesliga and for Germany's Under-21 side, but this game would be very special," said Rensing, whose only previous UEFA Champions League appearance came last February in a 1-1 draw at home against Milan when Kahn was injured.

• "Milan are a top team," Hitzfeld said. "They have great players like Kaká, Seedorf and Inzaghi."

• "We have to make amends for last year, but it's not going to be easy for us because Bayern always have a hard time against Italian teams," said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummeigge. "Maybe that's due to their defensive way of playing."

• Sagnol is more confident, however, saying: "Milan are not as strong without Andriy Shevchenko - our chances are 50-50."

• Lahm has bought a three-year old racehorse called Surabaja. "Horse racing is going to become my new hobby," he said. The left-back has been given advice by team-mate Pizarro who owns several racehorses in Peru.

Head coach profiles

AC Milan: Carlo Ancelotti Date of birth: 10 June 1959 Nationality: Italian Playing career: Parma FC, AS Roma, AC Milan Coaching career: AC Reggiana, Parma FC, Juventus, AC Milan

One of only five people – the others being Miguel Muñoz, Giovanni Trapattoni, Johan Cruyff and Frank Rijkaard – to have lifted the European Champion Clubs' Cup as both a player and coach, Carlo Ancelotti is one of the most highly-regarded coaches in European football. He claimed the UEFA Champions League in 2003 in only his second season at the AC Milan helm - he would have added a second but for Liverpool FC's stunning fightback two years later - and has added Serie A and Coppa Italia medals to an individual trophy cabinet teeming with honours.

His coaching career is proving every bit as illustrious as his days as a no-nonsense midfielder. Ancelotti started out at AS Roma, winning the Scudetto in 1983, before moving to Milan three years later after his hometown club deemed him too injury-prone. He quickly went about proving them wrong, thriving at San Siro in five years of unyielding success which brought two more Serie A crowns and back-to-back European Cup wins in 1989 and 1990.

He started his coaching career in similar vein, leading AC Reggiana to promotion in his debut season in 1996 and went on to Parma FC who he guided to an unprecedented second-placed finish. By 1998 he was at Juventus and although he never managed to better runners-up spot, Ancelotti did earn a return to San Siro in summer 2001. There he thrived, winning the UEFA Champions League, Coppa Italia and UEFA Super Cup in his second season and completing the set with the Serie A title in 2003/04. He guided the Rossoneri to second in the next two campaigns, although they were subsequently demoted to third last term following the Italian sporting fraud tribunal. In March, he extended his contract until summer 2008. FC Bayern München: Ottmar Hitzfeld Date of birth: 12 January 1949 Nationality: German Playing career: TuS Stetten, FV Lörrach, FC Basel 1893, VfB Stuttgart, FC Lugano, FC Luzern Coaching career: Zug 94, FC Aarau, Grasshopper-Club, BV Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern München (twice)

Ottmar Hitzfeld enjoyed a successful playing career in Switzerland and Germany, lifting two Swiss titles with FC Basel 1893, but that was merely a curtain-raiser to a glorious managerial career. The only coach besides Ernst Happel to win the European Champion Clubs' Cup with two different teams, he guided Dortmund to UEFA Champions League glory in 1997 and repeated the feat with Bayern four years later. Hitzfeld made a surprise return to Bayern in January 2007 and will hope for a repeat of his first, trophy-laden, spell in charge.

Having earned his coaching spurs in Switzerland, Hitzfeld accepted the challenge of reviving BV Borussia Dortmund's fortunes in 1991 and made an immediate impact, leading the club to second place in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Cup final in his first two seasons. In 1995 he guided Dortmund to the title - their first silverware in 29 years - which was retained the following year. The high point of his reign came in 1997 when Juventus were defeated 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League final in Munich.

FC Bayern München came calling in 1998 and the title was secured in his first season - one of four such successes in Hitzfeld's six campaigns - although 1998/99 ended in the disappointment of a UEFA Champions League final defeat by Manchester United FC. Two years later, Bayern were back to defeat Valencia CF on penalties in Milan. The domestic double of 2002/03 proved Hitzfeld's last hurrah, and he stood down at the end of the following season to be replaced by Felix Magath, but returned when the latter was sacked on 31 January 2007. Such was his impact that by March he had agreed a new contract until summer 2008.

Referee

Name Nat. DoB UCL UEFA Yuri Baskakov RUS 10.05.1964 8 36

Yuri Baskakov is settling into life as a member of the UEFA refereeing élite, emulating his compatriot Valentin Ivanov among the top referees on the continent.

Baskakov, who is based in Moscow, was awarded his FIFA badge at the start of 1998 after an impressive rise through Russia’s domestic ranks. Most of his early appointments for UEFA were in youth matches before regular club competition assignments began coming his way in 1999, when he also was at the UEFA European Under-18 Championship final round.

Since then, Baskakov has continued to climb the refereeing ladder. A member of UEFA's highest category of referees since 2005, it is no surprise that Baskakov is a regular in the rarified air of the UEFA Champions League, taking charge of three games in the 2005/06 edition. He was also responsible for two 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers before kicking off the 2006/07 season with AEK Athens FC's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round second-leg victory against Heart of Midlothian FC and the group-stage goalless draw between FC København and SL Benfica.

UEFA information

New UEFA General Secretary David Taylor, the general secretary of the Scottish Football Association (SFA), will take up the position of UEFA General Secretary – head of the UEFA administration - on 1 June. The UEFA Executive Committee was officially informed at its meeting last week in Nyon, Switzerland. One of the highlights of Mr Taylor's tenure at the SFA was the 2002 UEFA Champions League final, when Zinédine Zidane inspired Real Madrid CF to their ninth trophy success against Bayer 04 Leverkusen at Hampden Park in Glasgow. "David Taylor is an accomplished and respected leader, and UEFA has recognised this in asking him to head their organisation," SFA president John McBeth said. The post of General Secretary will replace that of Chief Executive within the UEFA administration. Gianni Infantino, currently UEFA Chief Executive ad interim, will become Deputy General Secretary under Mr Taylor.

Celebration match Dignitaries from the worlds of football and politics came together at Old Trafford on 13 March to celebrate both Manchester United FC's 50 years in Europe and 50 years of Europe since the Treaty of Rome - and the match fitted the bill as Sir Alex Ferguson's United team defeated a Europe XI by a 4-3 scoreline. Goals from Wayne Rooney (2), Wes Brown and Cristiano Ronaldo undid Marcello Lippi's squad, which comprised players from eleven nationalities and struck back through Florent Malouda and El-Hadji Diouf (2).

The 74,343 spectators in attendance were able to sit back and enjoy an evening of Hollywood football – including a half-time cameo from a spectating David Beckham. UEFA President Michel Platini spoke of his pride at the staging of the game, which raised money for the Manchester United Foundation. "Football brings people together," he said. "In a continent so proud of its cultural diversity, football offers a common language. It helps to integrate different communities. At its best, our sport conveys some of Europe's basic values: the rule of law, respect for others, freedom of expression, teamwork and solidarity. I feel very proud UEFA has been able to organise this special match."

Final ball The official ball for the 2007 UEFA Champions League final in Athens on 23 May has been unveiled by UEFA and adidas. The Finale Athens, featuring state of the art technology, was displayed at a special ceremony in the Greek capital on 8 March. The design is based on the popular UEFA Champions League starball logo and the blue and white of the Greek national flag. Greece coach Otto Rehhagel, who also has plenty of experience in Europe's premier club competition, was a special guest at the launch. adidas claim the 14-panel design "creates a perfectly round ball allowing great accuracy and control".

Both finalists will receive the Finale Athens ball for use in their pre-match training in advance of the 23 May showpiece at the Olympic Stadium. The team that comes out on top in the final will also have the exclusive right to use the ball for home matches as they defend the prestigious trophy next season, as was the case with FC Barcelona this term.

Trophy tour The UEFA Champions League trophy is touring Asia for the first time, visiting five countries to celebrate Europe's premier club competition and also highlight the region's huge interest in football. The UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour - presented by sponsors Heineken - kicked off in Tokyo and moved on to Jakarta, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Since last week it has been in Thailand, staying in Bangkok until Sunday and going on to Pattaya between 6-8 April.

Draw/match dates The draw for the remaining rounds of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League took place at the Megaron International Conference Centre in Athens, Greece on 9 March. It featured a straight draw involving all eight clubs without seedings or country protection. As well as the quarter-finals, the draw was also made for the semi-finals, meaning teams know who they will meet over two legs on 24/25 April and 1/2 May should they progress. The ceremony coincided with the official trophy handover from 2006 winners FC Barcelona to UEFA, with the European Champion Clubs' Cup being passed on to city mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis for display until the 23 May final at the Olympic Stadium in the Greek capital.

Competition facts

UEFA Champions League knockout stage: Did you know?

• Teams have come back from a first-leg deficit to go through to the next stage on 17 occasions. The biggest losing margin a side has overturned was achieved by RC Deportivo La Coruña in 2003/04 when the Spanish club fought back from a 4-1 defeat at AC Milan to win 4-0 at home and progress to the semi-finals.

• Fifteen ties have been decided on the away goals rule, including five where the triumphant team lost the first leg. This happened three times in this season's first knockout round.

• Manchester United FC hold the record for the biggest first-leg lead with a 4-0 home success against FC Porto in the 1996/97 quarter-finals, eventually going through by that margin after a goalless return.

• Only five ties have gone to penalties. Four of these have come in finals – 1996, 2001, 2003 and 2005. The only two-legged tie to be decided on spot-kicks was PSV Eindhoven's 4-2 victory against Olympique Lyonnais on 13 April 2005 after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

• In all, eleven ties have required extra time. Along with the five ties mentioned above, four quarter-final and two first knockout round encounters have also needed an additional 30 minutes in an attempt to determine a winner.

• No new countries are represented in the knockout phase of this season's competition but 17 nations have had teams participate at least once since 1992/93. Three clubs - AS Roma, Celtic FC and LOSC Lille Métropole - all appeared for the first time in the revamped competition.

• Real Madrid CF have set a new record for knockout stage qualification in successive seasons. This is the tenth straight season since 1997/98 that they have made it to this stage, moving them ahead of Manchester United, who appeared nine times in a row between 1996/97 and 2004/05. Overall, they have now played in the knockout stage eleven times, one more than United and FC Bayern München.

• The 2004/05 first knockout round encounter between Lyon and Werder Bremen featured more goals over its two legs than any previous tie – a total of 12 as Lyon defeated Bremen 10-2.

• There has never been a tie ending goalless after two legs. Eight have finished 1-0 on aggregate, most recently Milan's narrow victory against Celtic after extra time in this season's first knockout round.

• Athens was awarded the 23 May 2007 final after a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Tallinn, Estonia in April 2005. The Greek capital will play host to its first European final since the venue was rebuilt to stage the 2004 Olympic Games. The stadium previously provided the backdrop to the UEFA Champions League showpiece of 1993/94, when Milan were 4-0 winners against FC Barcelona. Prior to 1994, Athens also saw the European Champion Clubs' Cup lifted in 1982/83, the year after the venue was first inaugurated. On that occasion, Hamburger SV beat Juventus FC 1-0. The ground also staged the 1986/87 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final when AFC Ajax were 1-0 winners against 1. FC Lokomotiv Leipzig.

• UEFA Champions League: All-time records Biggest wins 7-0: Juventus v Olympiacos CFP (10.12.2003) 6-0: Olympique de Marseille v PFC CSKA Moskva (17.03.1993) 6-0: Leeds United AFC v Besiktas JK (26.09.2000) 6-0: Real Madrid CF v KRC Genk (25.09.2002)

Most goals in a game 8-3: AS Monaco FC v RC Deportivo La Coruña (05.11.2003) 7-2: Paris Saint-Germain FC v Rosenborg BK (24.10.2000) 7-2: Olympique Lyonnais v Werder Bremen (08.03.2005) Only one team has scored more than five goals in an away game, Manchester United FC winning 6-2 at Brøndby IF in 1998/99.

Team facts

AC Milan

UEFA club competition milestones • Milan have been crowned champions of Europe six times, making them the second most successful club in the history of the competition behind Real Madrid CF. They won the UEFA European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1962/63, 1968/69, 1988/89 and 1989/90 before lifting the UEFA Champions League with a 4-0 victory against FC Barcelona in 1993/94 and most recently in 2002/03 when they triumphed on penalties after a goalless draw with Juventus FC.

• Alongside their success in the European Cup, Milan also lifted the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup twice - defeating Hamburger SV 2-0 in the 1967/68 final and Leeds United AFC 1-0 in 1972/73 thanks to a Luciano Chiarugi goal after just four minutes in Saloniki. The following season they were runners-up against German side 1. FC Magdeburg.

UEFA club competition honours • European Champion Clubs' Cup: 1962/63, 1968/69, 1988/89, 1989/90, 1993/94, 2002/03 • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1967/68, 1972/73 • European/South American Cup: 1969, 1989, 1990 • UEFA Super Cup: 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003

Ten-year record (including current season) • Milan are making their fifth successive appearance in the UEFA Champions League and their seventh in eight seasons. They got past FK Crvena Zvezda in the third qualifying round to reach the group stage. The Italian side recorded three victories and a draw from their six outings in the group stage to top the standings with ten points, one ahead of LOSC Lille Métropole.

2005/06 season Domestic record: Milan ended the Serie A season in second place but a 30-point deduction following a sporting fraud investigation in Italy meant they were relegated to third and did not get an automatic place into the UEFA Champions League group stage. They were the highest goalscorers in the league, scoring 85 times in 38 games.

European record: Milan coasted through the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, losing once at PSV Eindhoven, before a 5-2 aggregate win against FC Bayern München in the first knockout round secured their last-eight place. After drawing 0-0 at Olympique Lyonnais, Milan won the second leg 3-1 but their path to a second successive final was blocked by FC Barcelona in the semi-finals - the eventual winners triumphing 1-0 over two legs.

FC Bayern München

UEFA club competition milestones • Bayern are chasing their first appearance in the European Champion Clubs' Cup final - and their eighth overall - since their penalty shoot-out defeat of Valencia CF at the end of the 2000/01 season having recovered from the heartbreak of conceding two goals in added time against Manchester United FC in the final two years previously.

• The German side, together with AFC Ajax, dominated the European football landscape during the 1970s with three successive victories in the competition against Club Atlético de Madrid (1973/74), Leeds United AFC (1974/75) and AS Saint-Etienne (1975/76). They also played in the 1981/82 and 1986/87 finals, but lost out to Aston Villa FC (1-0) and FC Porto (2-1) respectively.

• Both Bayern and Juventus hold the distinct record of being the only teams to compete in the European Champion Clubs' Cup final in each of the last four decades. Bayern's record is as follows: 2000/01: FC Bayern München 1-1 Valencia CF (5-4 on penalties after extra time) 1998/99: Manchester United FC 2-1 FC Bayern München 1986/87: FC Bayern München 1-2 FC Porto 1981/82: Aston Villa FC 1-0 FC Bayern München 1975/76: FC Bayern München 1-0 AS Saint-Etienne 1974/75: FC Bayern München 2-0 Leeds United AFC 1973/74: Club Atlético de Madrid 0-4 FC Bayern München (final replay after the two sides drew 1-1 in the final).

UEFA club competition honours • European Champion Clubs' Cup: 1973/74, 1974/75, 1975/76, 2000/01 • UEFA Cup: 1995/96 • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1966/67 • European/South American Cup: 1976, 2001

Ten-year record (including current season) • Bayern are competing in their tenth successive UEFA Champions League having won the competition in the 2000/01 season. The German side have advanced to the knockout stage in the past nine seasons with the exception of their 2002/03 campaign. With three victories and three draws from their six outings in this season's group stage, the German side topped their group, two points clear of FC Internazionale Milano.

2005/06 season Domestic record: Bayern retained their Bundesliga crown in fine style, although had just a five-point margin on Werder Bremen as opposed to their 14-point lead over FC Schalke 04 in the previous campaign. It was Bayern's seventh Bundesliga title in ten seasons and their 19th since the current league format came into being at the start of the 1963/64 campaign. It was enough, of course, to earn an automatic group-stage berth in the UEFA Champions League.

European record: Bayern finished second behind Juventus in their group, having traded 2-1 home wins with the Italian club. Having beaten SK Rapid Wien at home and away, and Club Brugge KV in Munich, it was an away draw against the latter club that ultimately cost Bayern top spot. That proved costly as they met AC Milan in the first knockout round and a 4-1 second-leg defeat saw them eliminated 5-2 on aggregate.

Competition information

UEFA's most prestigious club competition was originally created as the European Champion Clubs' Cup for the 1955/56 season, before its revamping as the UEFA Champions League in 1992.

• Away goals rule: For ties in the first knockout round, quarter-finals and semi-finals, the team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches qualifies for the next round. If the two teams involved in a tie score the same number of goals over the two legs, the team which scores more away goals qualifies for the next stage. If this procedure does not produce a result - i.e if the two teams score the same number of goals at home and away - extra time of two periods of 15 minutes shall be played at the end of the second leg. If during extra time both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (i.e. the visiting club qualifies). If no goals are scored during extra time, kicks from the penalty mark determine which team qualifies.

• Locally-trained players rule: In February 2005, UEFA announced that the 'A' list that teams submit for UEFA club competitions will continue to be limited to 25 players, and from season 2006/07, at least four places on this list will be reserved for players trained by the club's own football academy of which half can be players trained by other clubs from within the same association of the said club.

The 'B' list will also continue to exist - involving an unlimited number of Under-21 players who have been at the club for two seasons. In 2007/08, the number of locally-trained players in a squad will increase to six before rising to eight in 2008/09, with up to half of each figure allowed to be association trained.

A club-trained player is defined as a player who has been registered for a minimum of three seasons with the club between the age of 15 and 21, whereas an association-trained player is one who has been registered for at least three seasons by the club or by other clubs affiliated to the same association between the age of 15 and 21.

UEFA is concerned some clubs are not training enough of their own players, but simply taking them from elsewhere. The proposed measures have the objective of creating a better balance in domestic competitions, preventing clubs from simply 'hoarding' players in squads and creating a system whereby locally-trained players would be given a greater opportunity to play regularly in club sides - ensuring a large reservoir of talent for national teams as a consequence.

• Financial information: UEFA says the estimated budgeted income for the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League is €750m – higher than the 2005/06 campaign revenue which amounted to CHF943m (approx. €610m).

Under the competition regulations, 75 per cent of the total revenue received from television and commercial contracts concluded by UEFA, up to a maximum of €530m will go to the 32 clubs taking part in the group stage of Europe's premier club competition. The remaining 25 per cent is earmarked for European football and remains with UEFA to cover organisational and administrative costs, as well as for solidarity payments to associations, clubs and leagues.

It is also stipulated that participating clubs will receive 82 per cent of any revenue received from the same stream in excess of €530m, with the remaining 18 per cent allocated to UEFA for European football. In addition, 50 per cent of the revenue received from new media contracts concluded by UEFA will also be available for distribution to the clubs, and the remaining 50 per cent will be allocated to the above-mentioned European football portion/quota.

The gross income for 2006/07 is estimated at €750m, and according to projections, will be made up of €743.3m from TV and commercial contracts and €6.7m from new media contracts.

The fixed amount to the clubs is €276.6m. Each of the 32 clubs in the group stage will receive a starting bonus of €2m. In addition, they will receive a match bonus of €400,000 per match. Performance bonuses will amount to €600,000 for a win and €300,000 for a draw in the group stage. The 16 teams playing in the first knockout round will receive €2.2m, the eight quarter-finalists €2.5m each and the four semi-finalists €3m each. The UEFA Champions League winners will receive €7m, and the runners-up €4m.

Last updated 02.04.2007 11:08:38 CET www.uefa.com Page 35 AC Milan - FC Bayern München MATCH PRESS KIT

This means that a total minimum amount of €4.4m per club is guaranteed for the group stage. A club could receive, at best, up to €22.7m, not counting the market pool share and gate receipts.

The remaining €270.4m will be distributed according to the proportional value of each TV market represented by the clubs taking part in the UEFA Champions League, and to be split among the number of teams – four, three, two or one – participating from a given association.
