Editorial 2018/2019

This is our first year (54th Overall) as a fully produced in house version of our Association handbook and a pocket-sized Umpires version.

Congratulations to Mr David Neil being named as a patron of the Association and to the following players on their Playing Life Memberships: -

Paul McGowran Keswick 250 games including 5 Inter-Association. Michael Galliford Glenelg ANA 251 games. Matthew Smith Coro Ramblers 252.5 games. Terry Martin North Haven 260 games. Michael Todd ICC Sharks 250 games includes 3 Inter-Association. Ashley Marshall Warradale 259 games.

We all will again wish for an incident free year with much trepidation and hope, we play the game for enjoyment and fun and need to take a step backwards sometimes and remember this fact, especially when put in the perspective of our families. Sport teaches us a lot about life and ourselves and all we have to do is take heed of those lessons and place them into actions.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the information in Editorial and book this year. Special thanks to Phil Davis, John Voyzey. West Press, all the club contributors to the book and my family for allowing me the privilege of compiling the book every year.

Please use the CA website, take a look at it and understand the workings as it is now our future source of information:

Where no Official Umpire is in attendance at a game, it is always advisable for Captains to synchronise watches before start of play, so as to avoid disputes regarding the exact time for drawing stumps. The Umpires must then wear the synchronised watches.

SECRETARY’S REPORT Season 2017 – 18 With great pleasure, I deliver the 119th Annual Report of the Adelaide & Suburban Cricket Association. Saturday Competition After the AGM chose to continue with a 7 +7 competition 75 teams were graded in 9 sections. 8 teams were in sections 1 to 6 with 9 and a bye in Section 7, 10 in Section 8 and 8 in Section 9. Unfortunately, Keswick IV and Western Youth Centre IV never played a game in Section 9 and from Round 4 the program was rearranged with 6 teams. Warradale IV and Happy Valley IV in Section 8 forfeited many games and at Christmas decided they could not continue. Plans were made to rearrange Section 8 for 8 teams but Happy Valley insisted the players they had lost would make their Section 5 team untenable. Though not wanting to have 2 byes in Section 5 and 8 on checking the players available for Happy Valley the Executive reluctantly withdrew Happy Valley III from Section 5 and Warradale IV from Section 7. From Round 9 there were no more forfeits but there were 3 Byes each Round. Throughout the season there were 21 forfeits and 25 Byes. The season started 7 October with the Grand Finals on 24 and 25 March. The Adelaide Test match was a first ever Day/Night Ashes match against England and it began on the Saturday December 2. With a 7+7 competition 23 weekends are needed for a complete season so there was a choice to play December 2 or December 23. We chose to play 2 December as a one-day game. When the time came several clubs faced difficulties. Clubs were given permission to play Saturday morning if they could arrange it and the opposition agreed. 3 games in Section 1, 2 & 4 started at 9 or 10 am. All premierships were won by a different club. Congratulations to the 9 Premiership winners. It is given to the most outstanding and fair player from Section 1. Votes are awarded each minor round game by the umpires. This year the winner was Russell Curyer from Keswick. He won it in 2015/16. In 12 games he scored 364 runs, took 29 wickets, took 4 catches and 2 -outs and earnt 15 votes from the umpires.

The Jack Voyzey Cup T20 Competition This season Michael Young organised the T20 competition on Tuesday evenings with matches starting at 5:20. John Zadow organised an appointed umpire for most games. 16 clubs entered with Coromandel Ramblers and Plympton Footballers meeting in the Grand- Final on Sunday 11 February at Hawthorndene. Coromandel Ramblers were all out for 76 in the 19th over. Plympton Footballers won by 8 wickets in the 14th over. The Jack Voyzey T20 Cup is held by Plympton Footballers. SAMCA Senior Shield Captain Michael Thomas, Managers Kevin Joseph and Shaun Visser had a completely successful campaign for the Samca Senior Shield and the Samca Cup. First, they beat Para Districts at Cove. Then they beat Adelaide Turf on turf at Ingle Farm. That secured the SAMCA Senior Shield. This season the match between the Country and Metropolitan winners was organised for Sunday 25 February at Glenelg Oval. The South East team were all out for 155 in 39 overs. Our Association representative side made the runs in 28 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. 6 of the players made the SAMCA Team of the Year but the Association Player of the Year was Jordan Kilderry of Sheidow Park. Thanks to all who made themselves available for these games. Special thanks to David Billett for scoring and making sure our scores are on Mycricket for all to see. Andrew Wright is also part of the campaign and his style in umpiring adds to the professionalism of the matches and is appreciated by all. SAMCA U21 Cup Once again, we needed a new manager for the U21 Association team. Kevin Joseph and Western Youth Centre came through with Adam Berry and Robbie Hopkins. In the first match they beat Adelaide Turf at Ingle Farm on Turf. Unfortunately, they could not prevail against Para Districts at Cove but the one win meant they progressed to the Grand Final and had another crack at Para Districts. Once again Para Districts proved too strong passing our score of 120 in the 39th over. Still 6 players made the SAMCA Team of the Year and our U21 Player of the Year was Stephen Foster-Borg who captained the side. SAMCA Country Living Homes Metropolitan T20 Cup Coromandel Ramblers, Coromandel, Port Noarlunga and ICC Sharks entered this competition with the final 2 progressing to play clubs from other Associations. Unfortunately, they both failed at their next match. Umpires Thanks to John Zadow for again organising umpires and to Sarah Fry at SACA for assisting and appointing the umpires on Mycricket. This season we had 16 regular umpires. 2 new umpires were paired with our experienced umpires before umpiring games on their own. For the semi-finals 36 umpires were needed. 31 umpires were appointed so 5 games had just 1 appointed umpire. Thank you to all the players who helped out with umpiring. During the season Barry Gower umpired game 50, Peter Williamson and John Zadow umpired game 100, Kevin Spencer umpired game 150. Ray Thatcher has now officiated at 300 matches and Andrew Wright has made 350. ADMINISTRATION Phil Davis – President, Hemanshu (Eddie) Juneja – Secretary, Michael Young – Assistant secretary, John Voyzey – Vice-President and Russ Hewett – Vice-President continued in 19 their roles. David Neil who was struck by illness and a stay in hospital relinquished the role of Treasurer that he has held since 1980. That’s 37 years of service to the Association. Andrew Wright was elected the Treasurer and with the use of email and electronic payment was prompt in invoicing clubs when payments were due and making payments. Bruce Carpenter FCPA, Chartered Accountant still playing for Coromandel CC was appointed Auditor. Thank you for his expertise and time. The strength of the Association is the Executive Committee. They have important decisions to make in the running of the competition from grading teams, programming matches and granting permits to settling disputes between clubs and dealing with poor behaviour. As well as those named above Peter Berkshire, Raasan Oakey, Angelo Pansini, Mark Whenan, John Wilks and Tony Fromene and John Zadow were elected the Executive Committee. That left us 1 short and Jon Ferris was nominated by The Executive and accepted by the Committee of Management. They are volunteers who take on tasks and make decisions for the good of our cricket. A vote at the AGM to not print the handbook missed by a few votes so Steve Skinner again produced the book printed by Westpress. Thanks for his continuing work. REPORTS, TRIBUNALS, PERMITS The Executive received 1 dispute on a match result. After detailed study of the scorebooks the result was not changed. The Executive received 8 reports of poor behaviour. Some were dealt with by exchange of email reports and clubs either imposing their own penalty accepted by the Executive or accepted the penalty from the Executive. There were 3 tribunals. All up there were 7 match bans with 2 of them suspended to be served should poor behaviour be repeated. In 5 games a team lost all points because of problems with permits, clearances or playing the team named before the toss. After the Section 9 Grand-Final it was found that Kenilworth III through the season and in the 2 finals had played players using other players’ names. Kenilworth therefore lost the finals and points were taken from other games. Other penalties were placed on the Kenilworth club and those responsible. SPONSORS Kookaburra Sport has long supported Adelaide and Suburban. Their agreement with us ran out in July but Andrew Wright has been in contact and negotiated a new agreement to continue their generous sponsorship. SportsCenter for many years has supplied shirts, jackets and hats for umpires, shirts for the Executive and banners for presentations. Mitchell Park Sports Club offer the use of their clubrooms for our meetings and no cost. We thank the club and their staff who are always helpful in accommodating us.

IMPORTANT POINTS FOR SECRETARIES 1. All Clubs must be represented at each monthly meeting of the Committee of Management. Any Club not represented at 3 meetings from the July meeting through to the March meeting will have 6 premiership points taken from each team in addition to fines for each missed meeting. 2. Any player who has played for any other Club or in any grade of another Association including interstate and overseas must obtain a Permit to play from the Association Secretary before taking part in a match. You must ask players where they have played. If there is any doubt send details to the Association Secretary. You will lose the match if a player requiring a permit plays. 3. To add players login for your club to MyCricket and search. If not found, click on the red print to add a new player to the database. Players need First Name, Last Name, Address, Suburb, Date of Birth and Gender. Email The Secretary about a Permit. If found, apply for a Clearance from where the player last played. If the clearance is not granted in time, email The Secretary for a Permit before any game and transfer the player to your club. Players need to be given a Senior Player Role and be Registered to play for Adelaide and Suburban before they can be selected in a team. Where there are difficulties consult the Secretary, President or Vice-President before the player plays. 4. No permits will be granted after the end of January each season so players cannot be cleared after that date. IF YOU PLAY A PLAYER REQUIRING A PERMIT YOU WILL LOSE THE MATCH. Players must be registered on Mycricket by noon Sunday following the match. Your club will be fined if you are late in registering players. 5. Players who have only played in junior competitions do not need permits and will not require clearances. Transfer them to your club so they keep one Mycricket ID. If in any doubt email details to the Secretary. 6. Players may have dual registration with a club in another Association. This allows players to try games in a different association without their club losing them or needing a clearance for them to return. It also allows juniors to play seniors for a different club. Even with dual registration players need a Permit from the Secretary to return. Permits will not be given for players to return during byes or washed out games. The Executive may give Permits for the season where players have temporary duties in the country. All arrangements must be made before Jan 31. Transfer players to your club for Dual Registration after telling the other club and the Secretary what you’re doing. 7. A team must be named on Mycricket by 7 o’clock after the first day of the match. Mostly that will mean having a team named before the match, perhaps as early as selection night. It doesn’t have to be exactly the team you end up playing but allows scores to be entered better. 8. After the first Saturday of a two-day match, both sides must visit Mycricket by midday Sunday. If necessary correct the selected team. If first there set the match status to In Progress, enter innings results and player scores. If second there note or correct innings results and enter player scores. Match status must remain In Progress even if a first innings result has been achieved. 9. During the minor round both sides must visit Mycricket by midday on the Sunday following the completion of the match. After finals both sides must visit the website by midday Monday. If first there enter the result of the match, the innings results and player scores. If second there check the result of the match and innings results and confirm or dispute it then enter player scores. Save as draft if necessary. Where there are difficulties the scores are expected to be finalised by the Wednesday following the end 37 of the match. Both sides should check the opposition team is as nominated. Use Email or Text to inform of team if you can’t dispute. 10. The result of the match is used to construct the Premiership Table including the Performance Quotient. You must be happy that it is correct including all innings played if you confirm it. If there is any inaccuracy even minor, dispute it and notify the correct details. Mostly the details will just be changed on your say so. The other club will be notified and can challenge if it’s not an error but a disagreement. 11. Fielding and Keeping votes are entered in MyCricket. Under Matches select Enter Votes. Enter only the votes for YOUR club. Entries can be checked without logging on at MyCricket under Statistics – Other – Voted Awards. Check the other side enters the votes you awarded. 12. Forfeits –Clubs must advise the Association Secretary, the opposing team and any Umpires for the match. The forfeiting team is liable for any Umpire fees. The team receiving the forfeit must nominate a team on the website and claim the forfeit in the appropriate time. Clubs should do all they can to avoid forfeits but it is poor form to wait until match time if it was clear much earlier that a team could not be mustered. Clubs must forfeit their lowest side first. Except for exceptional circumstances, clubs forfeiting a higher grade will be deemed to have forfeited any match played in a lower grade. 13. If inclement weather threatens play, please do NOT telephone the Association Secretary. All players must report to their respective grounds where the Umpires will make decisions on the possibility of play. In the absence of appointed umpires, the captains together must decide when play is possible. Play must be abandoned if the official forecast maximum temperature for Adelaide at 9 a.m. is 40 degrees or higher. This forecast is available on the internet at www.bom.gov.au or the BOM weather app and will feature in radio news bulletins. Players and umpires will not be expected to attend the ground where the forecast of hot weather prevents play. 14. The Association receives generous sponsorship from Kookaburra and so Kookaburra 2 or 4-piece leather cricket balls must be used in all matches. (Preferably Tuf Pitch). 15. Where a team bats short of players on any given day, only the wickets captured count towards the performance quotient. 16. Umpire Fees where appointed. For two-day matches fees are $100 per day in Sect 1 and $80 per day in Sect 2 and lower. The fee is $110 per day for one-day matches. $30 per day for days washed out or abandoned at the oval with no play. Nothing for days abandoned by Rule 9 Excessively Hot Weather. Each club participating in the match is responsible for half.

38

IMPORTANT POINTS FOR CAPTAINS 1. Get to the ground early and meet the other captain and umpire if appointed. Have a team written for him especially noting any replacement players and specifically who replaces whom. Discuss anything unusual like sub fielders or ground conditions. Discuss any difficulties or unsafe ground conditions and cooperate in finding solutions. Agree on Tea and Drink-breaks. Settle these matters before tossing for choice of innings. 1a. The Captain’s Report on Mycricket has space for an Umpire’s Assessment if appointed or a box for a comment on club umpiring. Complete the Ground Assessment. All to be completed by Wednesday. 2. Have spare bails, stumps, chalk, tape, balls etc in your kit. Fielding sides are entitled to use a second new ball after the bowling of 80 overs in an innings. 3. Section 1 plays from 1 o’clock for 75 overs and Section 2 and lower plays from 1:30 for 60 overs each day in two-day games. One-day games start at 12:30 for 40 overs each side though Round 1 starts at 12 noon due to no daylight saving. 4. Captains and Umpires should synchronise watches before start of play to avoid disputes when scheduling tea breaks and measuring time lost. 5. Untidy, inaccurate scorebooks have lost games of cricket. Make sure you have a good supply of stationery and scorers who know their responsibility and study the best way to record the , bowling, sundries, tallies and wickets. 6. At the end of the first day of a two-day match check the scorebooks for agreement. If you can’t agree on discrepancies, then you must before play resumes. 7. At the end of a match both captains and any umpire sign both scorebooks as evidence of correctness. Any disputed result that can’t be agreed should be sent to the Secretary. 8. At the end of the match award 2 votes to the best and 1 vote to the second-best fielders from the opposition side and inform the captain. If more than one Keeper was used allow the Captain to choose who gets votes. Award their Keeper 1 – 5 votes. 5 votes – Faultless performance with exceptional moments 4 votes – Basic faultless performance or some errors balanced by exceptional moments 3 votes – Good basic performance with few errors 2 votes – Poor performance generally but not without some redeeming moments 1 vote – Many missed opportunities Record your fielding and keeping votes in your scorebook. 9. Captains and other players or spectators are encouraged to report to the Association Secretary any pleasing or unsatisfactory incidents or circumstances. If they are marked “For Information,” the Executive will determine when further action is warranted. These reports should reach the Secretary by the Wednesday following completion of the match. 10. Reports marked “For Urgent Attention” should reach the Secretary Saturday night or Sunday. (Email is recommended along with a phone call to the Secretary or President.) They will include instances of poor conduct or matches where the result is still in dispute. After contact from both side the Executive may offer a penalty which can be accepted. A tribunal may be arranged. Unless circumstances prevent it Umpires and the opposition should be informed before departure. 11. Players are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to smoke or drink alcohol whilst on the ground during play. 39 12. Captains should insist that every reasonable effort is made to get matches started in difficult conditions. Matting can be rolled or covered during showers and attempts made to soak up or disperse water. No damage can be done to the pitch or oval and heed should be paid to the owner’s conditions of use. 13. Should there be loss of play due to inclement weather it can become very complicated though the thrust of the idea is simply to divide the available time evenly between the two sides. Consult both Special Match Rule 6 Hours of Play 2-Day Matches, SMR 7 Declarations 2-Day Matches and SMR 8 One-day Games. For 2-Day matches an interruption during the innings of the team batting second will only cause a draw if the team batting second does not face as many overs as the team that batted first. It doesn’t matter that they would have had more overs with no loss of playing time. 14. The tea breaks in matches divide each day’s play into two sessions. Fielding teams may take short drink-breaks in the middle of each session however captains should be vigilant that play resumes promptly to avoid prolonging the day. 15. During excessively hot weather extra drink-breaks should be taken as frequently as every 45 minutes. Without unnecessarily delaying play, players should ensure they rehydrate and relieve heat stress for the sake of their health. 16. Although a decision may have been achieved on the first innings, Captains should always further the Objects of this Association by striving for the outright result in two-day matches. A team which leads by 100 runs or more at the conclusion of the opposition’s first innings may ask them to follow on. One-day matches end with a first innings result. 17. Captains are responsible to see that all players are correctly attired as instructed in Special Match Rule 11. Coloured clothing is not acceptable however shirts with side panels and collars in club colours with small Club and Sponsor identification on the front, sleeves or across the shoulders can be approved by the Executive. Players not correctly attired may not bat or bowl and will be fined. Participation will not be limited for it but shoes should be mainly white. 18. Where an independent Umpire has officiated, the Captain is responsible for submitting an umpire assessment by Wednesday after the completion of the match. The Umpire Assessment is in the Captain’s Report on MyCricket. 19. Umpires MUST be paid before play on the second day of a two-day match and before play of a one-day match. 20. You will not always agree with umpires’ decisions and of course they will not be perfect, but they are an essential part of a genuine competition. Treat them with respect especially when you think they’ve let you down but report it in detail, so they can learn. Just as they are not always right so you will not always be right. 21. The preamble to the Laws of Cricket places responsibility on the captain for ensuring the observance of the laws and the spirit of the game. At all times Captains must work towards solving disputes, moderating poor conduct and assisting umpires in controlling matches. 22. The 2017 Code of MCC Laws has included a new Law 42 Players’ Conduct. It details 4 levels of misconduct and action to be taken by umpires. In matches without independent umpires the same standards of behaviour apply and captains will need to cooperate in the management of the game. 23. The 2017 Code of MCC Laws makes all balls that bounce off the pitch entirely before reaching the striker’s a No ball. SMR 1 (b) says on hard wickets balls pitching on the edge of the pitch will be dead and one wide scored. The edge of the matting and the concrete and any grass encroaching will all be considered the edge of the pitch. 24. All full tosses over waist height of the batsman standing upright at the popping crease 40 are No balls. Any that are fast whether from fast or slow bowlers and directed toward the batsman will attract one warning before the bowler is removed from bowling for the rest of the innings. Fast deliveries that clearly slip out of the hand and pass the batsman harmlessly or slow balls that accidentally become full tosses will not attract warnings or other action. 25. A player who leaves the field or is absent at the start of a fielding session accrues penalty time and cannot bowl or bat until penalty time has been served. Penalty time is limited to 30 minutes. Penalty time is served by being on the field or waiting to bat. Penalty time does not accrue if the fielder is absent because of a Law 42 Level 3 offence, an external blow during the match or any other wholly acceptable reason. 26. What hasn’t changed? Bouncers over head-height standing upright at the popping crease are No balls even if no danger. Injured batsmen can use a runner. A No Ball will be called if a bowler dislodges a bail from the bowler’s end stumps during delivery.

FINALS

The by-laws for final round matches are contained within the Special Match Rules in the Association Handbook. Please read them before the game.

Take heed of these notes.

1. Finals are played over Saturday and Sunday in all sections beginning at 1 o’clock each day. Should play in your match be entirely prevented on the Saturday a one-day match is played on the Sunday starting at 12:30.

2. Apart from starting times games are played under the same rules and conditions as the minor round. Section 1 plays 75 overs. Section 2 down play 60 overs. Section 4 and lower have bowling restrictions.

3. A few teams may play on neutral grounds. On such grounds, the team named first for each fixture is regarded as the home team and they may have some responsibility for setting up the oval. Clubs supplying ovals are expected to supply materials, but circumstances may prevent this. If you are the first named team make sure you have contact with the supplying club to arrange laying the matting, setting the stumps and boundary and using dressing rooms. In addition, it is wise for all teams to carry spare stumps, bails and boundary markers in case of emergency.

4. At the February delegates meeting volunteers will form a Finals Committee which will act under the authority of the Executive Committee to allot games to venues and appoint umpires.

5. Experienced players not taking part in finals are needed to umpire games. Contact the Umpire Director with available players. Umpires will be paid $80 per day by the Association by cheque or direct deposit. Payments should arrive in the mail by the end of the week following the grand final. Enter a report on the umpires in the Captains Report on MyCricket by Monday afternoon.

6. Should weather delay or interrupt play, consult Special Match Rules 6 and 7. Some situations can become very complex. It is the umpires' duty to make decisions on the fitness of the ground for play and to decide on the way the game will proceed. 41 A game is drawn where the first innings will be compulsorily closed with less than 20 overs.

7. An outright result overrides a 1st innings lead, however a final match can be concluded at any time if both captains agree that no further result is possible. At the end of the first day’s play, if a result appears imminent both captains can agree to extend play for 7 overs.

8. Read the rules for player qualification for finals in Special Match Rule 5 Sides. Any team which plays an unqualified player without a permit for finals will forfeit the match. Any players with dual registration who have played games in another association this season need a finals permit.

9. We would appreciate both sides visiting http://mycricket.cricket.com.au/ Saturday night to enter progress scores so their supporters and others can see the state of the match. Both sides must visit the website by midday Monday to enter, confirm or dispute the result of the match, enter player scores and complete the Umpire Assessments.

10. Make sure you treat the oval the way it should be treated. We will want to use it again next year. We will fine clubs up to $200 if they or their supporters leave litter or disregard rules for use.

(a) All matches arranged as defined in Sections 25-28 of the Constitution of this Association shall be played in accordance with the Laws of Cricket as laid down by the and Experimental Laws as adopted by the Australian Cricket Board and recommended by the South Australian Cricket Association with exception of any Special Match Rule added for the particular benefit of this Association. (b) In matches played on hard wickets, any ball pitching on the edge of the pitch, shall be deemed "dead"; one wide will be recorded and no other runs or extras will be allowed. (c) Captains may not elect to declare an innings closed so as to create a draw or tie. (d) Bowlers in two-day matches in Sections 4 and lower shall be limited to the bowling of fifteen (15) overs in an innings. (e) Penalty Time as described in MCC Law 24 and 25 will be limited to 30 minutes for two-day and one-day matches. All penalty time is extinguished at the end of a day’s play. (f) All full tosses over waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease are No Balls. The bowler will not be warned or face any other action for balls that slip out of the hand and pass the batsman harmlessly or slow full tosses above waist height. Quicker full tosses over waist height from a fast or slow bowler that are directed towards the body or head of the striker will incur a final warning and any repetition removal from bowling. Playing Surface 2. In all matches the pitch will be turf or a concrete strip covered with artificial grass or carpet glued or pegged in place or other material approved by the Association. The minimum width of the pitch is 1.4 metres. Boundaries 3. (a) The boundaries at each ground will be defined by markers at intervals of not more than 20 metres. Where possible a physical line should join the makers to delineate the boundary. In the absence of a physical line the actual boundary will be the straight line between the markers. The boundary must be at least one metre inside any fence, wall, tree, goalpost, drain, path, or other obstacle at the edge of the playing arena. (b) Before the start of play umpires and opposing captains will agree on the boundary and on any fixed objects within the boundary. The Pitch 4. (a) Each club will ensure bowling and popping creases are maintained suitably. (b) Each club will ensure grass is tidied to the edge of concrete pitches. 55

(c) Each club will ensure stump-holes in concrete pitches are kept filled with suitable soil. Sides 5. (a) Before tossing for the first innings, each Captain shall nominate his players by passing a list with their names and initials to the other Captain. (b) At that time for a two-day match a Captain may note on the list two players who will be absent for day two and a twelfth and thirteenth players who shall replace them from the conclusion of the first day’s play. Each replaced player shall have a specific replacement. The replacement player shall take part in the match as if he were the replaced player, completing his innings or any over in progress if necessary. None of the replaced or replacement players shall take part in any other match during that round. (c) No player other than those so named, except substitute fieldsmen, shall be allowed to participate in the match. (d) A player must first qualify to take part in final round matches by playing at least four minor round matches for his Club in the current season. However, should a player not have played the necessary four matches, a permit in certain circumstances may be granted by the Executive Committee. (e) A player shall not be eligible to play in a final round match in a Section unless at least half of his minor round matches have been played in that team or lower teams, unless, under certain circumstances, he is granted a permit by the Executive Committee – see (f) below. (f) However, where a Club has consecutive teams playing in a final round, it may interchange eligible players for any of its consecutive teams, e.g. If teams "A", "B", "C" and "E" are in the finals, there may be free movement of selection between teams "A", "B" and "C". Should team "B" not reach the Grand Final (or team "A" loses the semi-final in an "A”/”B" situation) then this Clause will cease to apply to the remaining team(s). (g) Players who are replaced under part (b) above and their replacements shall have such games counted as one whole for finals qualification. (h) Any player with dual registration who has played games in another association during the year needs a permit to play finals in this association. Relevant to the granting of the permit will be the number and timing of games played for each association, the grades played, the section of the anticipated finals and the reason for the dual registration. (i) Any Club playing an ineligible player in a match will lose the match and all Premiership points from the match. The other team will win the match and be awarded points for a first innings win or retain their winning points. The Executive may also decide on additional penalties against the Captain, Players or club where the breach of the rules is negligent or deliberate. Players may be ineligible because they are not appropriately named before the toss, lack a permit or clearance under Constitution Section 30 or are unqualified for a final.

Hours of Play 2-Day Matches 6. (a) (i) Minor Round - Section 1. During daylight saving, play will commence each Saturday at 1:00 p.m. If there is no daylight saving, play will commence each Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (ii) Minor Round - Sections 2 and lower. Play will commence each Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (iii) Finals – Section 1 During daylight saving, play will commence each Saturday and Sunday at 1.00 p.m. If there is no daylight saving, play will commence on any such Saturday or Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (iv) Finals – Sections 2 and lower. Play will commence each Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (b) Umpires and Captains are to ensure that any late start is reported to the Association Secretary with an explanation for the delay. (c) The Club whose team is unable or refuses to commence play on time shall be fined the amount listed in Schedule "A" of the Constitution. (d) (i) Section 1. Stumps shall be drawn after the bowling of seventy-five (75) overs. On day two where an outright result appears possible stumps shall be drawn after eighty (80) overs. (ii) Sections 2 and lower. Stumps shall be drawn after the bowling of sixty (60) overs. On day two where an outright result appears possible stumps shall be drawn after sixty five (65) overs. (iii) Finals Stumps will be drawn as above for finals matches except that at the end of the first day where a result appears imminent both captains can agree to continue play for up to 7 overs. Should a result not be achieved these overs will be taken from the next day’s quota. (e) As soon as it becomes apparent the team batting first will have to declare having faced less than twenty (20) overs the game will be abandoned as a draw. (f) Each day the number of overs to be bowled shall be reduced by two (2) overs for each change of innings unless the change of innings occurs during the tea break. Where inclement weather delays or interrupts play, the first 30 minutes shall cause no reduction in the number of overs to be bowled but thereafter the number of overs to be bowled shall be reduced by one (1) over for each whole four-minute period lost. See SMR 7 (b) (g) When fifteen (15) overs or less remain to be bowled on the second day of a minor round match or at any time of a final round match, where no chance of an outright result seems possible, the game may be called off with agreement by both Captains without the need to complete the overs. 57

(h) Should play on day one be entirely prevented by adverse weather conditions, the match shall become a one-day game to be played under Special Match Rule 8. Declarations 2-Day Matches 7. (a) When stumps are drawn on Day one, the team which bats first shall declare its first innings closed if it has not been dismissed, except where the allocated overs have not been bowled. (b) (i) Where the allocated overs have not been bowled on Day one, the team batting first, if not dismissed, may continue batting on the second day. First any incomplete over from Day one will be completed. The team may then continue batting for half the number of overs lost with any half over completed. Should this extra batting time be further delayed or interrupted by inclement weather best efforts will be made to divide the available overs for the match evenly between the teams. If the compulsory closure will limit the innings to less than twenty (20) overs, the game will be a draw. (ii) The final over which results in a change of innings shall be deemed to be a completed over, irrespective of the number of fair deliveries bowled. (c) (i) After a compulsory closure of an innings the team batting second shall also declare its innings closed after the bowling of the same number of overs. The team scoring the higher number of runs is the winner on the first innings. (ii) Where a team batting first is dismissed or declares before a compulsory declaration is enforced the team batting second is entitled to receive at least as many overs as received by the team that batted first but may continue batting until stumps on the second day. A draw on the first innings will only result if interruptions to play prevent the team batting second receiving at least as many overs as the team batting first. One-day Matches 8. (a) One-day matches will commence at 12:30 p.m. The time for the drawing of stumps is nominally set at 6:00 p.m. If there is no Daylight Saving the One- day match commences at 12 noon and should complete by 5:30 pm. (b) Each team when batting, if not dismissed, shall close its Innings compulsorily after the completion of the bowling of forty (40) overs. (c) In each innings, the scorers shall notify the Umpires by a clear signal at the end of the thirty-fifth (35th) over and the Umpires shall in turn notify the Captain of the fielding side and the batsmen that five (5) overs remain in the innings. (d) The team scoring the higher number of runs shall win on the first innings. (e) (i) In matches where the start of play is delayed or the innings of the team batting first is interrupted by inclement weather the number of overs to be bowled before invoking the compulsory closure shall be decreased by one (1) over for each whole eight (8) minute period lost. When the 58

number of overs available for the innings is less than twenty (20) overs the match will be abandoned as a draw. (ii) In matches where there is an interruption during the innings of the team batting second, the match will be a draw unless either side can force a win by 6:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. if there is no Daylight Saving. (f) Bowlers in one-day matches shall be limited to eight (8) overs in each innings. (g) A first innings result is an end to the match. Excessively Hot Weather 9. Play will be abandoned on any day where the forecast maximum temperature as provided by the Bureau of Meteorology and broadcast by radio stations for the Adelaide City region at 9:00 a.m. is 40 degrees or higher. Tea 10 (a) A Match of seventy five (75) overs each day. A scheduled tea break of fifteen (15) minutes will be taken two and a half hours after the commencement of play. (b) A Match of sixty (60) overs each day. A scheduled tea break of fifteen (15) minutes will be taken two hours after the commencement of play. (c) One-day Matches. A scheduled tea break of fifteen (15) minutes will be taken between innings. (d) Umpires and Captains may agree to take tea after a set number of overs. Designs must be submitted to the executive for approval. Players are encouraged to wear mostly white shoes however participation will not be limited just because of the colour of shoes. (b) Any Club fielding a player not correctly attired as described in the aforesaid Clause shall be fined, and the amount of such fine is listed in Schedule "A" of the Constitution. (c) The Umpire(s) and Captains shall be responsible for reporting any breach of this rule to the Association Secretary. 59

Scoring A neat accurate scorebook is essential though it is not always given the attention it deserves until something goes wrong. You cannot claim a win if the scorebook doesn’t show you have and matches have been awarded to oppositions where scorebooks are too untidy to be reliable. With a complete neatly filled in scorebook a whole innings can be reconstructed to identify errors. Space is limited so make sure you have a fine pen or sharp pencil and spares. Sit next to the other scorer and compare books frequently. Every delivery needs to be recorded against the bowler (except balls called dead before they reach the batsman.) Runs need to be awarded to the batsman and the bowler and added to the tally. Use a continuous line for 2s, 3s, 4s etc so the order and number of these scores can be checked later if necessary. The main problem with recording runs is a lapse of concentration. If you are going to be responsible for scoring work hard at it and talk through everything with the other scorer. Sundries and wickets cause most difficulties and many scorers have developed different symbols. It is most important that one system is used throughout an innings and notes may be entered in the margin to help.

If a batsman is run out on a wide or no ball or fair delivery, follow the procedures above for completed runs. Then close the runout batsman’s innings. The wicket is not credited to the bowler. Once there are wides and no balls, more than 6 deliveries need to be marked in the box for an over. Try to allow for this possibility as you start each over. If it becomes too much for one box, overflow into the next box and remember to account for it when finalising the innings and counting the bowler’s overs and maidens.

New Law 42 Players’ Conduct The 2017 Code of MCC Laws has included a new Law 42 Players’ Conduct. It details 4 levels of misconduct and action to be taken by umpires. Please find the MCC Laws at https://www.lords.org/mcc/laws-of-cricket/laws/ Here is a summary of the 4 levels. Level 1 – mistreating ground or equipment, dissent, offensive language or gestures, appealing excessively or aggressively. A Level 1 offence will as a first offense earn a final warning with a five run penalty to follow a recurrence. The one warning applies to the whole team for the remainder of the match. Level 2 – serious dissent, inappropriate deliberate physical contact, inappropriately and dangerously throwing the ball, seriously offensive language or gestures. Serious dissent is loud, prolonged, repeated or aggressive. A Level 2 offence will earn an immediate five run penalty and any repetitions further 5 run penalties. Level 3 – Intimidating an umpire or threatening to assault a player or anyone else at the game. A level 3 offence will earn a suspension from the game for 10 overs (1-day game 8 overs) as well as a 5 run penalty. A suspended fielder cannot be replaced. A batsman is retired not out. Level 4 –threatening or making inappropriate deliberate physical contact with an umpire, assaulting a player or any other act of violence. A Level 4 offence will earn a suspension from playing the rest of the match and a 5 run penalty. A fielder cannot be replaced by a sub-fielder. For the players current or future innings he will be retired out. Any replacement players under SMR 5 (b) will also be suspended as the person they replace. Any use of Law 42 will be reported to the Association Executive who may impose a further penalty. Appointed independent umpires will use these measures as they interpret them and the behaviours that they observe. In matches with no appointed umpire Captains need to cooperate in the conduct of the match.

Summary of Law changes.

The MCC has produced a new code of Laws effective October 2017.

This page highlights some of the changes that will apply in our matches for this season.

Handled the Ball has not changed but is included as Obstructing the field Law 37. There are now only 9 ways of being dismissed.

Lost Ball Old Law 20 has been deleted. Under New Law 20 Dead Ball, when the umpire is made aware the ball on the field cannot be recovered he will call and signal dead ball. The score will be the runs completed plus the one in progress if the batsmen have crossed.

Penalty time. New Law 24 Fielder’s absence and New Law 25 Batsman’s innings. Whenever a player from the fielding side is off the field penalty time accrues. Under SMR 1 (e) Penalty time is limited to 30 minutes and expires at the end of a day’s play. The player cannot bowl or bat until penalty time has been served. Penalty time is served by being on the field or waiting to bat.

Bat size. Limited to 67mm in depth with edges limited to 40 mm. Law 5 and appendix B. The Executive believe there are bats marginally larger than this in use but don’t believe anyone should be forced to buy a new bat because of it. Unless it’s ridiculous bats can continue in use.

No ball Law 21 Deliveries bouncing in the grass or dirt alongside the pitch are No balls. Under SMR 1 (b) balls hitting the edge remain dead with 1 wide. Any delivery that bounces more than once or rolls along the pitch before it reaches the strikers wicket will be called No ball. Any delivery that doesn’t reach the line of the wicket without hitting the bat or batsman, or is touched by fielder before the batsman plays it is No ball and dead. A delivery that is thrown or underarmed is a No ball with just 1 final warning. A repetition means the bowler is suspended from bowling for the innings. Notes make it clear this is for deliveries that are plainly thrown. Not for suspect actions. Runs from a No ball that are not hit are byes and not recorded against the bowler.

Law 22 Wide Ball. All runs from a wide are wides and not byes.

A sub-fielder can Keep with consent of umpires. In matches without an independent umpire that means with agreement from opposition captain. From the summary of changes, they would want to be sure the original keeper is injured and not just resting or handing over to a better keeper who was not in the team for whatever reason. Law 24.

Law 30 (Batsman out of his/her ground) has been amended to give protection to a running or diving batsman whose bat bounces up after having been grounded beyond the popping crease.

68

Boundaries Law 19 All fielders when they first touch the ball must be inside the field of play or have leapt from inside the field of play or it will be considered to have been grounded outside the boundary.

Caught Law 33, Run out Law 38 and Stumped Law 39 A Helmet is now part of a fielder’s person (while wearing it) so a ball lodging in the grill can be caught and a ball bouncing off it can be caught or run out or stump a batsman.

LBW Law 36 If ball hits bat and pad simultaneously it is considered to have hit the bat first.

Law 41 Unfair Play Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batsman. Law 41.5 Immediate 5 Penalty runs and report. Deception is interesting. It includes pretending to throw the ball at the wicket when you don’t have it. Cricket is not to be played by sleight of hand but with a simple honesty. (Excepting for bowlers of course.)

Bowling of dangerous and unfair short pitched deliveries. Delivery is no balled with 1 final warning and then no ball and taken off. Law 41.6

All full tosses over the waist are No balls. Law 41.7

Deliberate front foot No ball Bowler is suspended from bowling for innings. Law 41.8 The demeanour and statements of the bowler will be an indication that the front foot No ball was deliberate. Being at least 50 cm over the popping crease and still delivering the ball could also suggest a deliberate No ball.

Striker in protected area. Law 41.15 The protected area is the 60 cm wide strip in the middle of the pitch 1.5 m from each popping crease. No player should be in it unless they are playing a shot, taking a catch or fielding the ball. Keswick currently are using a turf pitch and players must avoid the protected area. Generally, on hard wickets it is ignored however batsmen should not get into bad habits of running up and down the protected area and bowlers should not run into it and stand in front of umpires. What’s new is that batsmen cannot take guard so close to it that they will inevitably put their foot in it in playing front foot shots. That prevents batsmen taking guard more than about 50cm in front of popping crease. It does not prevent a batsman charging the bowler and playing a shot in the protected area as long as he gets out of it as soon as he can.

Running out the non-striker. Law 41.16 If the non-striker is out of his ground before the bowler would be expected to release the ball the bowler can attempt to run out the non-striker. If he fails the ball is dead.

Senior Samca Cup 2017 - 2018

Hi All,

We started this association game rounds as the clear favourite after winning the shield the last 2 years and pushing a country turf side all the way 2 years ago on a turf wicket.

We had a lot of new faces this year which was great for me personally, but also for the association as a lot of our players are getting a bit older, so a blend of youth and experience will keep us in good stead for the future.

Playing in their first game against Para was some young talent and some not so young that have proved themselves over the last few years and earned their spots through consistent results in our competition.

Making their debut was Ciaran O`Hagan (Port Noarlunga) Josh Haussen (Coro Ramblers) Brad Middlin (Plympton) and John Kovac (Cove).

Our first game was against Para Districts at Cove and in the end proved our closest game. Para batted first and hit 8-196 off their 40 overs. Pick of our bowlers were Aaron Fishwick (Morphys) 3-35, Michael Thomas (Cove) 1-12, and John Kovac 2- 21.

We started off badly losing a wicket early then steadied. We ended up passing Para 8 down in the 37th over. We were in real trouble at one stage till a superb innings from our captain Michael Thomas of 50 off 31 balls got us there. Other notable scores were Jordan Kilderry (Sheidow) 37, Sam Titterton (Cove) 24 and Ciaran O’Hagan 25 and some other low order runs that got us home.

The next game was the challenge we had been waiting for Adelaide Turf on turf. We added some real experience this game with Matthew Sloan (Cove) and Rusty Curyer (Keswick) coming into the side due to selections and injuries. We bowled first and bowled well to steadily take wickets to have them at one stage 4-54. A good partnership by turf got them to 5-131. In what could only be described as some of the best hitting I have seen Harry Singh, formerly of Keswick, hit an incredible 73no off only 29 balls!!!! With two of their other batters staying with him – one hitting 77 the other 32, we went from chasing maybe 170 to have turf finish on 5-216. Pick of our bowlers were Aaron Fishwick (Morphies) again 2-23 and Robbie Hopkins (WYC) 1-23 .

80

The lads went in at the break disappointed with their efforts in the last 10 overs. But this is where I saw the real strength of this team and captain. In what I can only describe to me personally as the best run chase I have seen. On a surface we are not used to, we made 4-217 off 33.2 overs!!!!! I witnessed one of the best innings you will ever see as Jordan Kilderry hit 122 of 90 balls. For the small crowd that was there to watch, it was nothing short of amazing. As he does so often Michael Thomas led from the front opening the batting hitting a handy 21. Two other small scores but massive in the context of the game were Matt D`Angelo (WYC) 20 and Sam Titterton 24. We have been questioned before as we beat turf on hard wicket and never on their surface. What I saw that day and anyone else that saw it cricket is cricket talent is talent. The Association and every Club should be proud of this team; backs against the wall to produce what they did in that situation is amazing.

So, we finally got our chance to play a country side after not getting the chance the previous year. We got to play at Glenelg which was a real buzz for the players.

We faced South East Gambier who had won the country carnival so once again facing a team on their surface. In their defence they did have to travel to play us, and what I had heard was they played on the Saturday and travelled after their local games so a big thank you. That’s a massive effort.

What I saw in the first few overs I was thinking we should’ve made them travel further!! They got off to a flyer, but lost wickets steadily to be all out for 155. Our bowling and especially our fielding was on top of its game. They had some real quality cricketers but our pressure was amazing. Pick of our bowlers was John Kovac 2-19 Robbie Hopkins 2-26 and Andrew Lee (Coro Ramblers) coming in for this game 1-30.

Chasing 155 for victory once again we batted superbly to hit 3-158 off 27.1 overs to win easily and finally win the SAMCA cup. Jordan Kilderry the Sunday specialist was nothing short of amazing again hitting 93no off 84 balls, and with a bigger score to chase I am sure he would’ve got another hundred. After losing few wickets Brad Middlin with Killer got us home. Mids finally got a chance to show what a good cricketer he is and hit 30no off 31 balls to guide us home. This team stood up to every challenged and prevailed. Most of the guys have been around a while and the culture they have built is a belief in one another no matter what score they are chasing or defending.

If it was truly his last game, Micheal Thomas deserves a lot of the credit for the success of this team over the last 3 years. The team is shaped in his never die attitude. Thommo you are a credit to your family your club and this Association. It has been an absolute honour to watch you go about your work and they say everyone is replaceable, but I know we might struggle to replace you. A big thanks from me and Skinny for everything.

A massive thankyou to Andrew Wright simply the best umpire I have seen. Goes about his work in a professional manner and just cannot be faulted. Always willing to help.

81

The next guy does not get the accolades he deserves but Dave Billet, thank you so much for what you do, and giving up your time to make my job easier is more appreciated than you realise.

And Skinny (Kevin Joseph) we did it. This guy has worked so hard on turning us around from being easy beats to a real powerhouse. He has seen the tough times and I know how much winning the shield and cup meant to him, I joined when we were good

And finally, to Phil and the Executive members thank you. You should be proud of the competition you run, and every club has a share in the success of this team no matter what grade you play. It is very humbling to be manager of this team and all their successes they have achieved.

Thanking everyone

Shaun Visser (Association Team Manager)

Belair A grade report 2017/18 (Sec 2) Well it was another year for the Belair A grade in section 2, and we would say it was a year we just didn’t take our chances. Losing 4 games by very narrow margins underlines this, and while we only missed out on the grand final by one wicket, we only scraped into fourth spot in the final game of the minor round and never really looked a genuine premiership threat through the year. In fact as the ladder suggest there was a considerable gap between the top 3 and the rest in section 2. While majority of the team had sub-par years, we saw two outstanding individual seasons from our opening bat Don Caruso (won A grade best player) and our big bustling fast bowler Brodie Mangin (association bowling trophy). Both also took out the A grade batting and bowling trophies. A special mention to Brodie who broke Matt Tansell’s ten year hold on the bowling trophy, bridesmaid no more! Matt Taylor took out the fielding, after an exceptional year at second slip and patrolling the outfield. Some highlights were Don’s blistering 137 n.o against Warradale, Brodie steam rolling Coromandel with 7/38 and both Brodie and Matt Tansell running through Happy Valley with 19 wickets between them.

Belair B grade report 2017/18 (sec 5) Overall a good year for our B grade side although it had some very polarizing performances & results. We finished ‘best of the rest’ after a dominant year by Morphett Vale & St. George and unfortunately weren’t able to put together enough of a game to get past St. George in the first final. Jon Wright had another great year picking up the Sec 5 bowling trophy for the second time, finishing with 36 wickets in the section. He finished the season with 40 overall after picking up 4 in a sec 2 game. John Snoswell continued to show big improvements behind the stumps and pick up the sections Keeping trophy with 38 votes. Our Captain had an inconsistent year with the bat but tallied enough runs to take club batting trophy and finish second in the section. The standout highlight for the year was the 2 hat tricks in one innings. The first a team hat trick with Marty Agius taking two wickets then a direct hit run out from Kenton Porker. This was followed but Jon W taking his own hat trick – 2x LBW’s & Bowled. Looking forward to the season ahead.

Coromandel Cricket Club Club Colours: Red and Green Founded: 1862

A Grade had another solid year under first year Captain Gareth Bruce, making finals for a second consecutive season unfortunately losing to eventful premiers ICC in the semi-finals. Another standout season for John Zadow being the leading wicket taker and making the SAMCA U21 team of the year. A couple of great innings by Sam Cheek and Ben Moore, who scored centuries in crucial games in the season. The B grade were well led by captain Chris Norman but unfortunately missed out again on finals this season, partly due to not having a consistent side all season. With the talent in the side, a trip to the finals isn’t too far away. Shane Myers, also a first-year captain, led our C grade to the top spot in section 8 however unfortunately we were unable to take that form in to the finals losing in the semis as well and missing out on another Grand Final. But plenty of positives are to be taken out of another solid season especially with Chris Wright shining with the bat with an average of 92 and highest score of 164 not-out, and the emergence of the youngest player in our senior side, David Champion, taking 13 wickets and opening the bowling in his first season of senior cricket. The lad has a bright career ahead of him. A good year overall for the CCC with two sides in finals again. Fingers crossed the ultimate success isn’t too far way.

Coromandel Ramblers Cricket Club Club Colours: Double Blue Established 1926 www.coromandelramblers.com.au

In 2017/18 the Ramblers achieved our ultimate goal of winning the ASCA section 1 A Grade premiership, 19 years after our last. Our u14 team also won their T20 competition and the season premiership, we had two competitive u16 teams (with the Gold boys playing in the Grand Final), and 3 of our senior teams played in finals with the C Grade also making it through to the Grand Final. Our u12s dominated and only lost to Happy Valley during the season, while our u10s enjoyed their cricket more than any junior team we have seen. We have also run two Milo In2Cricket courses, the second being assisted by SACA in memory of our good friend Ashley Bryant, who passed away just prior to the season commencing. SACA’s support provided for free registrations and coordinating the sessions which led to 65 kids signing up, making us the biggest In2Cricket centre in the State. Speaking of our u10s, we saw some significant changes to the game play and only 7 children per team which allowed each child more involvement in the game. They were coached by our young superstar Samyak Jain, whose infectious enthusiasm rubbed off on all the players and the parents and all got along brilliantly. A huge thankyou to all of our other junior coaches: - Brett Brodie who made the step up from the u10s to the u12s taking some underage boys with him and creating a dominate team that would have played in a grand final if it applied to u12s - Ian Lewis, in his first year as coach, took his team from the Green division into the Blue and dominated the entire season taking out the T20 competition and the premiership - Kelvin O’Driscoll and Justin Rowley for leading two u16 teams with slightly limited numbers against oppositions only fielding one team. Kelvin’s Gold team again participated in the Grand Final but unfortunately lost to Flagstaff Hill. In our senior competition we had our most successful season in many years with As, Bs & Cs all participating in finals while the D Grade development team missed out by less than a game, at the same time blooding many u14s and u16s throughout the season. Our A grade and B grade have played finals in the past 3 seasons without success, so it was very satisfying to finally win both the semi-final and the grand final in the As. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the B grade this year, but our depth is looking even stronger next year which will help their cause. We didn’t play our best T20 cricket in the ASCA Grand Final but played very well along the way to get there. We welcomed an external coach for the first time in Andrew Lee, who brought with him many years of district and turf cricket experience. His knowledge of the game has been very important when passed on to our players and his on-field 87 competitiveness took our A Grade to a higher level. A big thank you to our captains Jon Ferris, Justin Calderbank, Andrew Strunk, Steve Davenport and Fabian King for leading our teams and to Tony Benson for his invaluable batting advice each Thursday. Off field, our BBQ’s were boosted with a Bunnings BBQ and two community events at Weymouth Oval, combined with some very social outings on Thursday nights. One such night saw our official snag eating record matched by Matt Potts before he unfortunately displayed the difficulty of attempting the great feat. An amazing effort nonetheless and it proved to be a great social occasion. Our sponsors all continued with the second year of their two-year deals and we particularly thank KD Aire / DCM Services for their Gold Sponsorship courtesy of Josh Haussen. Should you need any air-conditioning needs, or particularly commercial air-conditioning installs or servicing, please give Josh a call. Our silver sponsors were once again Blackwood Butchers, IUGO Web Design, Blackwood Building, Intersport Blackwood, & Alspec Security. A further thanks to Dave Benson Caravans and Noarlunga Packaging for their sponsorship of the Quiz Night. Thank you to each of our committee members who are small in number but do an extraordinary amount of work. Our committee consisted of Glen Rosie as Secretary, Jason Dancer as Treasurer, Josh Haussen & Jarrad Benson as Senior Coordinators, Mandy OKeefe as Junior Coordinator, Jarryd Simister as Social Director, and Luke Makereth as Facilities & Equipment coordinator. Next season we would like to open up the committee with extra positions and sub-roles to share the load and make our club even stronger. Thanks for being a part of our great club and we look forward to seeing you all again next season.

I would like to start with a big thanks to the committee for all the work throughout out the season 2017/18 I wouldn’t say it was the best year that club has had but we can take some positive out of year with the B’s making the finals for the 5th year in a row, just need to take it one step further next year but it’s also great to see how many young lads we have playing senior cricket over all 3 grades. With 6-7 playing sec 1 this year. Thanks to all the captains of the sides for their effort this year. Well done to Michael Thomas on winning Player of the year and also cricketer of the year. Also, a well done to the seniors and under 21 players that represented the club in the association sides. We really need to make a big effort from here to the start of the season to work on getting Juniors back up and running at the club. Big thanks to everyone else who helped organise the 40 year anniversary which I think was one of the best nights we have had at the club, seeing all the old faces and current players all together. In closing I would like to say thanks again to everyone involved in the club and look forward to the up-coming season.

Thanks Cove Cricket Club

What a season 2017/18 was for the mighty Lions!

Reflecting back on the year, it is a credit to the club to have two sides in two grand finals in the first year in a new competition.

The second XI boys fell at the last hurdle, going down to Southern away from home. The twos did it the hard way all year, barely ever having a settled team due to unavailability’s. It was a credit to captain Twiggy along with his deputy in Shane Robinson that the seconds were able to make it deep into the finals. The number of guys at training from the 2's has increased greatly compared to years gone by and although we didn't bring home the flag, everyone involved in the second XI should hold their heads high, it was a fantastic year.

The first XI, what to say... We did it! Champions of Section 4 after knocking off Sheidow Park at home in the GF. Rah, in his first year as captain of the club, led like a champion and was backed up well by his Vice Captain in Ben Lennon. New recruit, Jace Beveridges knock in the grand final was spectacular but every bloke in the team had a standout moment during the year. Nick "Texta" Raymonds 4/ against his old side and coach Lenno’s 60 in his last ever game for the club, or so we thought. The bustling hundred by Kyle Berryman at home or Stoppy whacking them all over the place at Warradale. The bowlers union and the partnerships they had bowled in all year, getting the job done week after week. The year was amazing and couldn't have happened without the hard work behind the scenes of the committee as well as the supporters and of course, the players and the coach. 2017/18 was an incredible year and everyone at the club is buzzing to get 18/19 underway.

GLENELG ANA C.C. Club Colours: Black and Gold

Finishing just outside the finals in both grades was a great achievement by both of our teams who had to overcome some hurdles, especially early In the season. Both grades had some terrific victories in the second half of the season when our playing list gained more depth and we had a higher level of availability overall.

Ending the season where we did on the Premiership ladders accurately reflected our year. With the total refurbishment of our training facilities combined with the addition of quality people to our playing list augurs well for a dramatic improvement in the coming seasons.

Congratulations to Cameron Moore for a good season with the bat, to Rowie for another great season with the ball, to Mark O'Malley for some freak efforts with bat and ball as usual, and to Michael 'Gally' Galliford for good year with the bat but also for achieving Life Membership with the association during the season.

Thanks to Rowie for his time and his efforts as our club President over the past several years.

Happy Valley Cricket Club

Club Colours: gold and green

During the latter stages of the 2016/2017 season there were discussions between the Happy Valley Cricket Club and the Hamilton Cricket Club concerning a merger for the following season. The Happy Valley Club was playing in the Hills Association, so that meant that the Club would have to both merge and change its identity. The Hamilton Club would be able to improve their facilities and be involved with a Club that had obtained a long history, which had its beginnings in the 1910/1911 season. At the end of the 2017 cricket season the Hamilton Club had two teams which were involved in the finals, with the ‘A’ team losing in the final match and the second team going on to win the grand final. After much deliberation, the merger went ahead and four teams were nominated to play in the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association. By the end of the season, the Happy Valley club provided 93 players, which included about 12 – 15 juniors, who accredited themselves magnificently and Hamilton provided 19 players. Another six players eventually played for another club in the Association. At the start of the season there was plenty of competition for inclusion and the newly merged club was hopeful of an exciting season. As the season progressed, several players became unavailable through injury, sickness and other reasons and as a result the Club had to forfeit the bottom side and the younger players were forced to play in section five with unflattering results. Happy Valley Club Cricket Club, with a history of over 100 years, decided to move associations from the Adelaide Hills Cricket Association to the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association. this decision was made due to several positive reasons e.g. gaining a good influx of players through the merger, aligning the juniors which are in the South Central Junior Cricket Association, proximity to most of grounds close to the Happy Valley area, which provides less travel time and joining a strong and well-organized association. Happy Valley Cricket Club blended well with all new incoming Hamilton players and the team comradery was strong on and off field. Hamilton have brought several volunteers and committee representatives across which has helped with the running of the club. Also, on field during the season ex Hamilton players have been high performers with both batting and bowling statistics and helped strengthen our playing stocks. The Club was well coached by Bruce Dodd, who continually provided encouragement and the players responded with good attendance at all training sessions. The use of the ‘Bowling Machine’ provided some good coaching lessons and as a result, the batting improved as the season progressed, so that the leading batsmen were able to put a competitive score on the board. Leading scorer for the Club was Scott Blundell, with Michael Young and Matt Cox making good contributions, with Matt Cox making the highest score for the season with a well compiled 89 runs.

The bowlers generally provided a steady attack with Scott Rademaker leading the way with a total of 21 wickets, followed by Jason Roberts (19) and Chris Craggs (18). Two bowlers were able to take five wickets in an innings, with Michael Young (5/14) and Jarrad Semmler (5/57) 105

The season started well for the Club, where in Section 2 the ‘A’ team started with solid wins in the first three matches and the other three teams were quite competitive, suggesting the Club would put together a season of good results. However, this was not to be as players became unavailable. Hopefully, this coming season will be an improvement and the Club can develop the winning attitude, following a positive recruiting effort during the off-season. John McTier and Gavan Piper

KENILWORTH CRICKET CLUB Club Colours : Crimson and White

Well, it sure was a season of highs and lows. Let’s start with the highlights.

There were two key retirements at the end of the season. So this is a chance to celebrate two fantastic careers.

Craig Cooper’s career at Kenilworth consisted of 108 matches. In these matches he took 168 wickets, with best figures of 6/27, at an average of 15.30. He also scored 2955 runs including 4 hundreds and 16 half-centuries, at an average of 31.11. These are the figures of an elite all-rounder! He won the R.J. Halliday Cricketer of the Year in 2008/2009 and a host of other club awards including ‘A’ grade Player of the Year. He also served as Treasurer and committee member on numerous occasions. Kenilworth applauds his service to the club and his skill as a cricketer.

Jeff Pagsanjan, who has been our ‘A’ Grade Captain over the last five seasons, also retired at the end of this season. Over 106 games Jeff showed his exquisite versatility. In his early seasons he was a terrific wicket-keeper – 54 catches, 12 stumpings. Over the last two years, he reinvented himself as a bowler … taking 25 wickets in his final season at an average of 16.28. Jeff was awarded the Robert Sbattella Memorial Club Man Award in 2013/2014 and it was well deserved. He has been a supportive and thoughtful presence at the club and a fine captain. He will be missed by all.

Looking back on the 2017/18 season there were a number of individual cricketing highlights. With the bat, Mohammad Wazeer scored 668 runs at an average of 47.71 and highest score of 112 which was bettered only by Mathew Stancl’s 123 and Izhar Ahmad’s 134 not out. Special mention must also be made of Attaulah Ahadi’s 519 runs from 7 matches including 29 sixes and 45 fours!

On the bowling side of things, David Denborough took 38 wickets at an average of 8.47 and economy rate of 2.47 with best figures of 6/23. Rooahullah Agha took 32 wickets. And a special mention again for Attaulah Ahadi for his 20 wickets in 7 matches with best figures of 6/7.

A further highlight was both the B Grade and C Grade made the grand finals!

That’s kind of where the highlights stop for a while. B Grade lost their grand final and while C Grade initially won theirs, they were later disqualified for playing someone under an incorrect name. What’s more, there were further penalties imposed for playing people under incorrect names during the season. This was the undisputed lowlight of the season and, as a club, we would like to profoundly apologise to the 108

Association, to Phil Davis personally (for the countless hours of extra work we caused him) and to all other clubs. We are really sorry.

We would prefer not to end this report on such a low. So let us tell you two more highlights. The first of these is that during the 2017-2018 season Kenilworth C Grade made it possible for a number of Afghanis who have only recently arrived in Australia to play their first game of cricket in this country. While our C Grade was not the most organised team, and some players did not have the correct uniforms, the team assisted some people to make a new life in this country and to overcome depression in the process. We’re really pleased about this.

And finally, we would like to give our thanks to Executive Umpire John Zadow for the ways he came to the assistance of the C Grade after they faced considerable hostility towards the end of the regular season. We really appreciated this. His actions were an undisputed highlight during a season of profound highs and lows.

Keswick Cricket Club Club Colours: Maroon and Gold Founded: 1942 Website: www.keswickcricketclub.com.au

Keswick had a successful season with an ageing list and still managed to have two teams compete in the finals with the B’s winning section 3. The support of sponsors is critical to all amateur clubs and I personally thank our major sponsor Guardian Interlock who through Simon “Spook” Morris and Stacey Hughes have been big supporters for over a decade. Alan Doubleday through Computer Station, Mick Bradbrook through Structurally Sound Engineering, Winter and Co Accountants, Khim Tew through Australian Radiology Clinics, Vicki Bastien (Coca-Cola Amatil) and The Morphettville Junction are all great supporters of our club and receive my thanks for their ongoing sponsorship this season and hopefully into the future. It is hard to captain and manage at team in any sport and to emerge as the “Top Dog” in your grade at your first go as captain is outstanding. I congratulate one of the club’s long serving players and new captain Craig “CC” Coretti and his team on bringing the club a premiership in the B grade blending a team of talented club veterans into a side that peaked at the right time despite the injuries and aches and pains in a truly superb effort to bring home the cup. In the pre-season we nominated four teams with our A grade in section 1 and others in sections 3,5 and 9 respectively. Despite our optimism we were unable to fill four senior sides consistently and unfortunately after the enthusiasm in 2015/16 for our D grade father/son team this fell by the wayside making it impossible for us to fill the section 9 team. The Junior program under the guidance of Kirrily and Bruce Burton, Mark and Nikki Brake, Craig Douglass and Ray Hall has continued to strengthen with under 10’s, under 12’s and under 14’s all having great seasons. Craig Coretti, Dan McCann, Alison and Steve Verco are owed a great debt by the Club with their hard work hopefully ensuring Keswick Cricket Club has a bright future with these talented juniors. The parents and other Keswick members are to be applauded for their support of this important part of our club. The club completed the season with a well-deserved and hard-won B grade Premiership in Section 3 but all sides were at times able to perform at a high level. The A grade used 25 players throughout the season and this no doubt contributed to the inconsistent performance and although in the top four for most of the season finished just outside the finals in fifth position. Numerous factors contributed to this including inclement weather restricting preseason practice, injuries and loss of players throughout the season. As a positive we did welcome Arman “Spidey” and Daljeet “Ricky” Singh back to the club and next season hopefully a larger contingent of their fellow players will play with Keswick which will strengthen our senior sides beyond the recently completed season. Jimmy Clarke has decided to step down as the club and A grade captain and I wish to congratulate him on his achievements as Captain and thank him for all the hard work and leadership since joining Keswick and wish all the best for the seasons to come as a senior player. The C grade led by Wade Matthews finished minor premiers but failed to make it to the Grand Final by a little more than a dozen runs and with a touch more luck could certainly have won the premiership in Section 6. Craig Coretti as B grade Captain in 110 his first season as captain brought home the Premiership in Section 3 but importantly also retained the Bradbrook/Maetze Cup (against South Road) I hope he continues this leadership and team management as captain for many seasons to come. Every season there are milestones reached by individuals and I would like to thank and congratulate all the following players on their personal games played milestones. Two of the clubs greatest players, multiple Association and Club trophy winners, both A grade and Club captains and members of the 2015/16 Section 1 premiership teams I congratulate Heath “Bubbles“Mackay and Russell “Rusty” Curyer on playing their 200th and 150th games respectively for the club. With great credentials as one of the players taking the longest time to play 50 games Darren “Dazzling” Ridings has literally sped to his 150th game. He is a consistent and tough performer and when in touch plays some of the most breathtaking leg side shots of any Keswick cricketer and has a great set of hands in the gully or with the keeping gloves on occasions. Two fast bowlers reached the century of games mark for Keswick and despite some years without playing they have both played multiple Premierships for the club including a C grade premiership together. Congratulations to Mark “Louie” Lewis and John “Warnie” Warne on achieving this milestone. Louie has also shown some incredible hard-hitting batting cameos over the years and Warnie has always been a fantastic fieldsman with a great arm whether in the field or bowling. Dan McCann and Stu Ats played their 50th games for the club both including premierships in those games in which they both were key performers, congratulations to you both and may many more games and premierships result. Other milestones were recorded throughout the season. During the season Heath MacKay and Alan Doubleday played in their 220th games for the club thereby achieving club life membership. Alan’s Doubleday’s record and stories are perhaps a little less known but early in the current season he became only the second player to pass 8000 runs for Keswick. He debuted in the 1983/84 season. His current 228 games have so far yielded him an impressive 8340 runs and 32 wickets but don’t really tell us the value of his skills to the team. Alan has made the most ever centuries (15) including 3 double centuries, with a highest of 226, which also involved the clubs highest ever partnership of 259 with Sam Calleja, 88. Doubles has been a club sponsor for a number of years through one of his many workplaces “Computer Station.” Throughout the season a number of aggregate runs-scored records were achieved. Of note were Simon “Spook” Morris scored his 6000th run, Brad “Nipper” Williamson his 5000th run, Russell Curyer, Ross “Hollywood” Ormsby, Steve “Vercs” Verco reached 4000 runs and Kurt McKinley and Kamal Mohammed their 1000th run for the club. Rusty took his 200th wicket for the club during this season joining an elite group of all-rounders with over 4000 runs and 200 wickets. The JJ Heptinstall trophy winner Russell Curyer had an outstanding season, winning the A grade John Robinson batting and Kevin Anderson bowling with 364 runs including a masterful century (121) and 29 wickets respectively. Rusty convincingly won the John Zadow / Allan Liebielt players choice award indicating how important his team mates thought his contributions were throughout the season polling votes in 11 of 14 games. Russell “Rusty” Curyer confirmed again that he is the best fieldsman in the Association winning the A grade, Simon Brett club and the Bert Crowhurst Association award as the best fielder in Section 1. He also again claimed the Barry Kearsley Life members trophy as the most valuable A grade player again 111 underlining his consistency and importance to the club as one of the premier players in the A grade. He again was adjudged by the umpires as the most influential, best and fairest player in Section 1 winning the Hewett medal. This shows we are not the only ones who admire and appreciate Rusty’s outstanding cricketing feats. After Rusty (364 runs at 30.33) the batting fell off with the Captain Jimmy Clarke 239 runs at 19.9 and Daljeet “Ricky” Singh 190 at 31.67 next in the A grade batting statistics. Bowling wise Steve McRae 21 wickets at 14.86 and Arman Singh 13 wickets at 19.54 provided great support to Rusty who won the Kevin Anderson A grade bowling trophy with 29 wickets at 14.10 in an outstanding season. The B grade finished 3rd at the end of the minor round and won two great finals to finish premiers in section 3. Craig Coretti in his first year as B grade captain led from the front winning the bowling trophy with 31 wickets at 14.68. He was ably supported by Dan McCann with 21 wickets at 12.60 including an incredible 7/13 against Coromandel Rambles II and Mark Lewis with 18 wickets at 15.5. The B Grade batting trophy was won by Chris Jeffrey with 383 runs at 34.82 ahead of Ross “Hollywood” Ormsby who scored 259 at 32.48 and Steve Verco 218 at 15.5. Rossco also won the fielding trophy in his first full season return to playing for the club. In the C’s the batting trophy was yet again won by Alan Doubleday who scored 403 runs at 40.80 including a classic century (120no) against Mitchell Park and another disallowed century against a 7 aside South Road. Kamal Mohammed scored 390 runs at 39 to finish second behind “Doubles” with Shaun Hansen third with 194 runs at 24.25. Nic Matthews won his teams bowling trophy with 22 wickets at 14.05 and his secure hands in the field won him the C grade fielding trophy. Shaun Hansen finished second in the bowling statistics with 20 wickets at 19.60 and John Warne 12 wickets at 11.75 to finish third. The captain Wade Matthews had an outstanding season with the gloves and again won the Association Keepers trophy. I congratulate those who scored centuries this season lead by Rusty with 121, Alan Doubleday 120no and Simon “Spook” Morris 111. On the bowling front the outstanding figures belonged to Dan McCann with 7/13 in section 3 followed by Arman Singh 6/26 and Steve McRae 6/40 both in section 1 In closing this was another successful season with the club gaining another premiership. It will, in my opinion also mark the season when the club began to pass the baton to the next group of Keswick cricketers and truly adopted the junior program which will ensure the Keswick Cricket Club will continue to be successful for many years to come. My thanks to all those who support our great club.

Yours Sincerely, John Miller President, Keswick Cricket Club.

MITCHELL PARK CRICKET CLUB Club Colours: Red, White and Green

Email: [email protected]

While 2017/18 was a tough year overall for MPCC, there was still plenty to celebrate; last summer was the 50th year since Happy Valley CC moved to the Mitchell Park Reserve to become the Mitchell Park Cricket Club, and the 60th year of our Club’s overall existence. A mighty soiree was held to honour the occasion with many of our Club’s ex-players, families and friends in attendance featuring guest speaker Max O’Connell and the unveiling the MPCC Team of the last 50 years as well as the team of the last decade. The committee, led by president PJ Scott, did a wonderful job putting the night together, not to mention their hard work overall in running the Club. The A Grade had a hard summer in Section 2, going winless in a season of great change. Many of our A Graders from previous summers were either unavailable completely or could make only sporadic appearances, due mainly to work commitments or having moved on from the suburb. Jordie Dienelt was named the new captain and led from the front with the bat in stubborn fashion and in the field, scoring 224 runs @ 20.36 – with our batting often in trouble - and receiving 11 fielding votes which was good enough to place him second in the Club’s fielding trophy. Todd May stepped up from the lower grades to assist Jordie with 232 runs @ 19.33 with two half centuries. Daniel Battersby led the bowlers with 17 wickets (@17.00) from just nine games but it was the bowling of young leg spinner Josh May which impressed many as he took 16 wickets @ 32.38, displaying great control and wiles in his first full summer of A Grade cricket. Kyle Hanegraaf captained the B Grade to finals, placing fourth in Section 5. Unfortunately, the Lions were no match in the semi-final for deserving winners of the division in Morphett Vale, but didn’t help themselves by dropping an extraordinary amount of catches during that game. Newcomer to the Club Mike Warland had a huge year in the B’s scoring 212 runs and taking 31 wickets @ 11.74 including a best of 5/8 against Belair. Another newcomer and youngster in Maverick Abbott took 17 wickets (20 across all grades) with a best of 6/17 vs Happy Valley and showed a great deal of promise. Darren Siewes scored 275 @ 22.92 including 101* vs Happy Valley and Matt Rankin, who proved to be a great asset to the Club as a batsman and wicketkeeper scored 257 @ 51.4 with a best of 101 vs St George. Rob Quintel also proved his worth as an allrounder with 227 runs and 16 wickets. C Grade were led by PJ Scott and flirted with a Section 6 finals position for much of the season before bowing out in the final rounds. PJ led all run scorers with 269 runs at 20.69 and was followed by Dylan Pretty with 225 @ 22.5. Wickets were shared around, with Allan King (16.5 average) and Matthew Aylmore (20.07) tying on 14 wickets each, Bradley Richardson taking 13, Sanjay Reddy 12 and Nick Holmes 10. Allan also took career best figures of 8/42 vs Keswick, the Club’s best individual bowling performance of the summer. Regardless of their ladder placing, a number of MPCC youth players made their debuts in C Grade and performed in outstanding fashion there, providing great enthusiasm and receiving solid experience in their first senior outings. D Grade also missed finals but blooded a number of new players to the Club under the captaincy of Peter Robertson. Lachie Stewart-Tonkin pinched the batting 121 aggregate late in the summer with a pair of half centuries, recording 183 runs @ 20.33 with wicket keeper Brett Campbell scoring 157 @19.63 and Peter Moyle hobbling to 141. Connor Sampson’s 95 vs Port Noarlunga on debut was also a stunning performance worth recollecting. Connor’s father Steve took 22 wickets @ 12.14 with a best of 4/2 with Moyle providing great support with 15 wickets @ 16. Adam Campbell, another youth player in his first year of senior cricket, also took 15 @ 18.47 including D Grade’s only five wicket haul, an amazing 5/0 vs South Road.

Club Award Night was a lot of fun as ever. Young Josh May won the Allan Sutherland Player of the Year with 36 votes across the summer, which was a popular victory. Mike Warland finished just one vote behind, with a cluster of players in the 14 to 18 vote range. Mike won the Darryl Reynolds All-Rounder Trophy with 762 points, with 243 runs and 35 wickets across all grades. Rob Quintel finished second on 482 points. Brett Campbell won the Max Thomas Wicket Keeping Trophy with 406 points and had 10 catches and three stumpings for the summer. Lachie Stewart-Tonkin won the Mark Sansome Fielding Trophy with 15 votes, an impressive amount considering it is voted on by opposition captains. The night -and season - was rounded off by the presentation of Life Membership to two deserving recipients. Shaun Hollis has been around the Club on and off for twenty years, playing 146 games (127 in A Grade) and scoring 3791 runs (3189 in A’s) at an average of 25.61; he has been a member of the 2000/01 and 2014/15 A Grade premierships and the 1988/89 C Grade premiership. He was also named in the MPCC 50-year anniversary team as opening batsman. Jake Hollis was also made a Life Member at the ripe old age of 26, having already played 106 career senior games (80 A Grade) but having contributed in a huge way to the Club off the field as well. He has been a long-time committee member, a junior’s coach, treasurer and had the mantle of “sheriff”. He has also taken 154 wickets in his time and captained the A Grade to the 2014/15 premiership.

During a season of great change, it was greatly encouraging to see so many new players join MPCC and to see many of our juniors enter senior ranks and make such a valuable contribution to our Club. Our junior coaches have done a wonderful job with the boys for many years and deserve huge thanks for their tireless efforts – well done and congratulations to PJ Scott, Todd May, Steve Chapman, Michael Williams, Chris McSporran and Shaun Davis. MPCC also featured its first girls team this past summer and we hope to see this program expand as well. Our committee works bloody hard to put our teams out on the field and Peter Berkshire did a great job as coach and selector in making sure all sides were filled with the usual last- minute vacancies. All are to be congratulated. We’re looking forward to a bigger and better season in 2018/19.

MORPHETTVILLE PARK CRICKET CLUB Club Colours: Green, Gold and Red Club History: Formerly :Saint Marks Founded 1922, joined ASCA 1942- 43

Our 96th season looked successful when the minor round concluded. We had three sides hosting finals, A and B-grade as minor premiers. Sadly it faded rapidly! The A- grade were runners-up, B-grade third, D-grade fourth, while our Cs finished sixth. Finals notwithstanding, our improved results were demonstrated by many good performances. In particular, for the fourth in our history and the first time since 1998- 99 two batsmen scored over 500 runs: Daniel Florance 597 and Chris Spehr 590 our 17th and 18th best aggregates.

Losing the toss, limiting sides to moderate scores and then running them down quickly was the A-grade’s modus operandi. With only one loss, they entered the finals on top by two games, then they got the staggers. Just winning their semi-final and well beaten at home in the grand final. Definitely not a true reflection of their season.

The batting aggregate was won by Daniel Florance whose aggressive style produced his best-ever season of 597 runs. This included five fifties, a career high third century and season’s best of 136*. This batting award can accompany his two A-grade bowling trophies. Captain Scott Paterson with a solid total of 419 runs, also posted his third century. Reliable allrounders Kev Brokensha 307 and Mark Nurney 252 added solidity to the middle order. Support came from opener Rohan Prigg with 225 runs and 11 catches, ever-reliable Bharat Roocke 161 while young Chris Gibbie gave a glimpse of his ability with 137 runs. Paterson and Nurney shared the best partnership of 126 runs. Our best bowler with 36 wickets was the dependable Bharat Roocke, who was runner up for ASCA’s Section Two bowling award. Bharat also took the club’s best of 8/32 - equal 15th in our history. Opening left-arm quick Aaron Fishwick’s regular collection of wickets saw him bag 31 and also gain inter-association selection. Florance’s bowling realised 21 wickets and included our club’s 24th hat-trick. Nurney 16 and Brokensha 11 contributed useful wickets to a solid and frugal attack. The B-grade was undefeated at round 12 but then lost three of four. In a very competitive grade they beat everyone and were ever so close to a flag. They scored the most runs in Section Two, evidenced by having three players in the top ten batsmen. Opener and Section runner-up, Kym Woodward’s 351 runs included the top score of 81* to give him his third trophy. Stroke- player Grant Whellum’s 284 and versatile Roshan Bandara with 281 usually set a quick tempo for the innings. Brett Barker made a useful contribution with 200 runs while Daniel Monro, from limited matches, compiled 167. Captain Mark Voyzey added 135 with newcomer Mat Crawford 115 and Caleb Rybalka 107 contributing useful scores from limited matches. Whellum and Woodward shared the best partnership of 138. Opening bowler Andrew Smith won the bowling award with 33 wickets, including a best of 7/28 and was runner-up in Section 3. Fast spinner Bandara’s 28 wickets maintained the pressure on opposition batsmen. Victor Forbes with 18 wickets, Mathew Erfuth 14 and Brodie Roberts 10, completed a very useful bowling line-up. Our C-grade, competing against A and B-grade sides, were always going to find it tough, but their competitiveness showed. Before promotion Daniel Monro scored 127

286 runs, including the season high of 76. Travis Hebbard totalled 167 with captain Jarrod Robinson adding 140 and Brodie Bowman 103. Monro and Hebbard shared the best partnership of 94. The bowlers found the higher grade batsmen very tough. Last season’s winner, seamer Brenton Crosby took 14 wickets, our second lowest aggregate in C-grade. Assistance came from young spinner Alex Mitchard, wicket-keeper/bowler Robinson and Daniel Crosby. D-grade were top after round 12 but other results and a poor semi-final saw them finish fourth. Their batting was dominated by Section 8 batting trophy winner Chris Spehr and Geoff George. Spehr’s 590 runs at 98 included three undefeated centuries, the best being 122. Opener George keeps accumulating runs. His total of 345 saw him join Graham Tuohy and Jim Coulls as 10 000 run scorers for the club. Geoff now has 6 centuries and Chris 11. Good contributions came from captain Jess Keon 189 wicket-keeper Ben Porter 147 Jason Crisp 145 and Allan Elbourn 127 runs. George shared two big partnerships: 164 with Keon and 162* with Spehr. Leg spinner Crisp’s 18 wickets gained him his third bowling trophy, beating fellow spinner George’s 14. Ever-reliable quick Michael Barnett took 13 with Keon adding 11 with a host of others contributing. AWARDS Player awards. A: Daniel Florance. B: Andrew Smith. C: Daniel Monro. D: Chris Spehr. 2017/18 Cricketer of the Year: Daniel Florance. For his efforts running practice, captaining the club, assisting off the field, plus his committee work, Scott Paterson was named the 2017-18 Clubman of the Year. Multiply those on and off field efforts by many seasons and it is easy to realise why Scott was deservedly awarded Club Life Membership. MILESTONES 10 000 runs: Geoff George 3000 runs: Bharat Roocke; Mark Voyzey 1000 runs: Mark Nurney; Caleb Rybalka 100 wickets:Roshan Bandara; Andrew Smith 100 catches: Bharat Roocke. 100 matches: Troy Rosser

Our juniors Under 10s, 12s and 14s, were capably managed by Gavin Walsh, Les and Peter Roach. They are producing talent and numbers for future senior years with a couple playing this season. The Under 14 Green team winning their grand final was a highlight. President Geoff George and Secretary Mike Henley’s committee again did a sterling job with their efficient administration. Financial help came from our durable sponsors: Newmarket Ingredients, The Promo Place and Tom Hayter. Thanks go to Paul, Camo and Nic for friendly service at the bar, plus Sheila Paterson for organising afternoon teas and meals. A and D-grades made the finals for the second consecutive season, with the Bs joining them this year. Let’s not make losing finals a habit. Next season our competition will be similar. We should remain in the same grades which surely means playing in finals shouldn’t be the problem, just winning them. A little more desire on the field, increased self-belief, and dedication to a winning ethos, should result in premiership celebrations next March.

A grade Played in section 1 captained by Adam Lawrence who had a relatively young squad. With only a couple of older heads playing which showed in some crunch games not being able to finish the game with a win. Although we finished on the bottom of the ladder we certainly weren't embarrassed losing most of those games by only narrow margins. Highlight was an outright which included 16 year old Mitch Vonthoff obtaining first innings figures of 4/8. Other highlights: Jay Oxlade at the young age of 46 showed he can still match it in the top tier scoring 549 runs at 45.75 average. Best with the ball was Luke Gill with 20 wickets at an average of 20.55.

B grade Skippered by Adam Hocking, they fought it hard in section 3. They unfortunately fell one game short of the finals. There were some solid performances through the middle part of the season but couldn't get the crucial wins needed at the start and towards the end of the minor rounds. Once again and older experienced man showed that he can still match it in the higher sections with Geoff Lawson plundering 383 runs at an average of 31.92. Our best bowler in the B grade went to another older player for the club in Paul Wilson who captured 17 wickets at an average of 13.94

C grade Skippered by Ryan Egan for the first couple of games before going up the grades then taken over by Mathew Avery. They found it very hard to get a settled side and ended up with just the 3 wins. Tyagi Minesh led the way with the bat scoring 147 at an average of 21 and backed it up by being the leading wicket taken with 11 at an average of 11.

D grade Was skippered by David Walczak and finished up premiers defeating Kenilworth 2 by 153 runs. In what was quite a settled side for most of the year, special mention has to be attributed to some standout performances from individuals. Shane Hollitt had a great season with the bat, scoring 515 runs for the season which included a brilliant 124 in the grand-final. He was well supported with Terry Martin contributing 353 runs and handy cameos throughout the season from others. Jake watts, Jack Lewis, Shane Woolman had very good and consistent season with the ball. Terry 133

Martin finished the year off strongly with 7 wickets in the finals, including a 5/6 for a total of 18 wickets to end the year.

E grade Skippered by Brian Price had a tuff year. So many forfeits and byes made it hard to keep players interested. We mustered up 5 wins. Best with the bat was Anthony Ford with 339 at 42.38. He also took 9 wickets. Luke Howell was the best with the ball taking 10 wickets at 7.70 and Nigell Randel made 155 at an average of 31.

Congratulations go to our two new life members in Micky Muldoon and Judy Redford.

Medal winners John Engnelhart medal went to Jay Oxlade. Tony Fromene medal went to Geoff Lawson. Alex Lewis medal went to Tyagi Minesh. Doug Fleming medal went to Shane Hollitt. Ryan Egan medal went to Anthony Ford. Ray Guscott medal went to Mitch Vonthoff and Brad Brame.

Never2Late Cricket Club

The Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association welcome the Never2Late Cricket Club to our competition and wish them the best for this season.

Port Noarlunga Cricket Club Club Colours: Black and Gold Nickmane: Great White Pointers

Handbook summary for Port Noarlunga Cricket Club.

Thank you to all opposing teams we played against last season. We look forward to locking horns again in Season 2018/19. Also, thanks to the committee, umpires and other volunteers of the association. It is truly a very well-run competition. Season 2017/18 was a mixture. Section 1 once again played finals but were comprehensively beaten. Getting a consistent side together was a struggle as work commitments get more in the way. Our depth will once again be eroded in Season 2018/19 Some highlights of the season were Jamie Robshaw and Reece Button with 19 wickets each and Anthony Burgess 359 runs and Ciaran O’Hagan 340 runs. Section 5 – From Paul Smith. Well porties had a reasonable season but finished on a sad note by missing out on the finals. We had a lot of close games that didn’t go our way. 139

As a captain it was good see some of our juniors come thru and perform at a high level. Leading wicket taker was Matthew Treloar with 13 wickets with Paul Smith making 255 runs and Shane Keast 205 runs. Section 8 – From Danny Page. Our overall season was disappointing. Our bowling and fielding was excellent but our batting let us down bigtime and cost us playing finals. The highs for us were beating North Haven outright at their ground, taking 20 wickets in one day and putting us back in finals contention. The young kids we blooded were sensational and lifted our enthusiasm and the standout was our opening bowler Mick McKay who led from the front. He absolutely dominated the whole season and it showed by him winning bowling trophies in both club and association. The lows were losing outright to Coromandel and it costing us a finals spot even though we probably didn't deserve to be in the top four and our batting performances throughout the season were at times disgraceful. Highlights were Danny Page with 148 runs and Michael McKay (26) and Dave Shane (16) getting amongst the wickets. Section 9 – From Scott Woods. In Section 9 our D Grade was used as a junior development side. We had a really good year teaching the young lads a lot about cricket. We over achieved with about 6/7 14-year-old lads and to make the Grand Final was a fantastic performance. We eventually won the Grand Final after it was discovered our opposition cheated, which denied the opportunity for these kids to celebrate which is disappointing but hopefully they will experience that in the near future. Top Performers were Scott Woods with an association high 757 runs, Dennis Kennedy 414 runs and in his 1st season of seniors, young Harry Smitheman scored 181runs. With the ball Dennis Kennedy topped off a fine year with 35 wickets, Darren Young 18wickets and youngster Kobe Mott also in his 1st Season with 15 wickets.

PLYMPTON FOOTBALLERS CRICKET CLUB Club Colours: Red and Black Est 1964

This is a season in which the fortunes of our club were very much linked to rivals Coromandel Ramblers. Plympton drew first blood with a relatively comfortable 8 wicket win in the Grand Final of the newly named ASCA Jack Voyzey T20 Competition. Their revenge would come with a more than comfortable win in the Grand Final in Section 1. It was a disappointing way to give up our title after a strong season. But that’s the nature of cricket. There was some consolation for Plympton with our third side taking out the premiership again over Coromandel Ramblers in Section 7 with a nine-wicket victory for our “Dad’s Army” side – their second premiership in three years. Our player highlights included a solid season by Brad Middlin in Section 1, in which he scored 526 runs at an average of 40.46 and five fifties. He backed this up with the ball with 16 wickets at 26, making him one of the leading all-rounders in the competition. Brock Pomeroy again topped the Section 1 wicket taking 24 wickets at 11.63 with a best of 5/29. Section 4 skipper Jon Maddigan topped the bowling for the club in that grade with 24 wickets at 11.5 with a best of 5/16. Best with bat here was Nathan Blake with 241 runs at 26.78. Section 6 best with the bat was Adrian Foote with 453 runs at 37.75 with a top score of 120 and with the ball it was Andrew Brigmanis with 28 wickets at 13.93 with a best of 5/44. Section 7 best with the bat was Pat Cronin who scored 419 at 32.23 with a top score of 106 and best with the ball was Remy Colmer with 25 wickets at 21.72 with a best of 5/14. Section 9 best with the bat was Wayne Hillgrove with 629 runs at 48.38 with a top score of 172 and best with the ball was James Vanderhaak with 28 wickets at 14.64 with a best return of 6/19. The club champion McGhee Medallist for season 2017/18 was Section 4’s Nathan Blake with a solid all-round performance across the season. Life Membership was conferred on Rik Morris.

Saint George Cricket Club Club Colours: Red and White

The 2017/2018 year was pleasing for two main reasons. Firstly, both sides returned to finals action after missing out the previous season. But more importantly, an influx of new players saw numbers being less of an issue than recent years. Retaining these new players and adding more will continue to be a priority. Ongoing stability within the Management Committee is appreciated and continues to hold our club in good stead. Those involved do significantly more work than most know to keep the club functioning and attractive. Again, it is much appreciated. A settled leadership group provided stability. Jimmy Walker and Craig Price resumed their captaincy roles and were able to benefit from their experience, taking their sides to finals. With neither side tasting the ultimate success, hopefully they will get the opportunity to take the next step. Both sides put finals positions beyond doubt before Christmas with an excellent opening half of the season. The A grade made it through to the Grand Final before losing to the best side in the division, whereas the B grade were eliminated in the Semi by the eventual premiers. Both sides, and all players, can be proud of their seasons. Newcomer Andrew Langton led the way with the bat in the A grade (293 runs) while evergreen Matt Broomhead led a fine bowling attack with 28 wickets. In the B grade, a tie for the leading batsman with Nathan Johnson and Ravinder Sandhu on 194 runs each, while Kevin Winning again took the bowling honours with 17 wickets. David Baum won his first A grade Player of the Year award, while Kevin Winning won the B grade equivalent. Thanks to our on-field leaders, our committee and all those who played a role in getting out reams on the park. Continued strong attendances at social events indicate we are doing something right. We were once again significantly supported by our major sponsor, the Seven Stars Hotel. We need to make sure we continue to support them as much as we can. Thanks to Tom and his team. Welcome to all the new players this year, we hope to see you back. Thanks to all 35 players who this year had a crack!

Another season of growth for the club can be attributed to the continued success of the move to the Pit, moving the second ground to Reynella East College and a better season on the field for the club as a whole. We also continued the second team in juniors to solidify that commitment with our juniors and the community. We also added Milo Cricket for the first time in a number of years. With the help of SACA, this was a resounding success and the club will look to continue this agreement in the future. The club is in a strong financial position, aided by the assistance of a grant for $10k from the Marion Council/Amanda Rishworth’s office. Craig has had initial discussions with the council regarding this and it looks like they will manage the project for us. As such, we are proceeding with plans to extend the veranda area in front of the bar. This will be of particular benefit to the juniors on a Sunday morning where the additional length will provide shade (rather than having to try watch through the bright morning sun). On field was a much better season, seeing all teams with a chance at finals until the last few rounds. Eventually our B, C and D grade teams all made finals with the B grade progressing to the grand final. Unfortunately, we did not see the ultimate success for any of our teams. However, it does bode well for the future to be gaining the depth and strength to have teams playing finals so we can hope for more fruitful years to come! Rob and Shane continued their work with the juniors. It was good to see Damo and Tad put their hands up to coach the junior teams and while they didn’t always see the results they wanted, the feedback was great in their development of the players involved. Hopefully we can continue to grow our junior program in the future to have more players moving through the ranks. Finally, success is not far away for this club based on the results of the year both on and off the field. Let’s hope these results continue and the club keeps improving and we see the ultimate success being realised once again for one, if not all, teams very soon!

South Park Cricket Club Club Colours: Red and Blue

South Park had a challenging season finishing 5th, and just out of the finals. Very well lead by Captain Esso Brkic and Vice Captain Paul Askew, it was a very competitive season finishing with 5 wins, 7 losses and 2 byes. We introduced 10 new players into the club this year which provided significant spirit and growth. We continued the club philosophy of giving everyone a go and we enjoyed our cricket and the on field competitiveness. There is a positive feeling around our ‘one team’ club that the future looks bright with great spirit, mateship and culture. Standout for the season was Paul Askew with the ball, with 19 wickets at an average of 17. He had best figures of 5/29 against Sheidow Park in round 5. With the bat, the team struggled for consistency and is demonstrated with only 6 fifties for the season. Arumugam Loganathan lead the way with 321 runs at an average of 32. South Park would like to thank all of our committee members for their dedication and hard work put into improving the position of the club both on and off the field. We look forward to season 18-19 with a great sense of optimism that we can further improve the club. Thanks to the Goodwood Hotel for their generosity as sponsor and we look forward to their ongoing support. The trophy winners for season 17-18 were: Cricketer of the Year: Esso Brkic Bowling: Paul Askew - 19 wickets Batting: Arumugam Loganathan – 321 runs Fielding: Michael Turci - 11 catches Captains Award: Vinod Vaithiyanathan Kevin Spencer Team Man Award: Kenny Lang

Congratulations to the trophy winners and we look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in season 2018-19

I’m writing this summary of the season as we wrap up and move on to another season. The first thing I would like to do is thank the committee members, Matthew Altus, Peter Fosdike, Jonathan Finch, Mark Mitton, Steven Broad, Aslito May, Graham Hartlett, and Bradley Ross. I also thank this year’s team Captains: A grade Adrian Woolman B grade Balbir Singh, and D grade Jordan Davies. Without this core group of people we cannot provide the platform for people to enjoy their cricket. You all mean a lot to me and the Club. This year we had almost a completely new committee, including some very green prospects. As only 3 members had been on the committee before, it was not the smoothest transition at the start of the off season, but I am pleased to have overseen the growth of individuals on this committee. This season as a committee we tried to handle our business as a group, and everyone stepped up at some point when needed. This season was one of change. We had a lot of turnover, from players through to committee members. This posed a unique challenge this season, as we had players in grades they had not played in before, but it was a challenge that everyone accepted. I think as a club we understand we are in a transition phase. You can’t win everything every year. I do believe that by surrounding ourselves with quality people and friends, making our cricket fun, getting around the club and supporting each other at training in games, after games, we will grow as a club and as a unit. We want to work at getting all teams back into finals; this is not an overnight fix, but if we create the culture, it can create long term memories, stories, friendships and keep the club highly regarded and respected by the entire association. I would like to think, with all the upcoming changes to the Edwardstown precinct, that we can ride these coattails ourselves, using this growth and change in the community to reignite our presence in the community. We can use this as a platform to introduce new members to our brand, we can use this to grow as individuals. This will be the first time we have our own clubhouse, something I think we can all get excited for. There are lots of new and exciting times ahead for the SRCC: it’s a great time to be at the Roadhouse as we start the climb up the ladder. It will take contributions from everyone at the SRCC as we work as a team towards 1 goal. Congratulations to the Trophy winners and to our new committee members. I look forward to what this club can accomplish is the future. Bring on the new developments to the establishment and to the SRCC. Roadhouse Regards Aaron Schmidt

The 2017/18 season was a successful one for the Southern Serpents Cricket Club with both our A and B Grade sides competing in the Grand final after finishing 4th and 3rd respectively. The club continues to build on a solid foundation of success with our members enjoying their cricket and encouraged to contribute. Congratulations to our B-Grade side who took out the Premiership in a great finals campaign. The A Grade Captain Brendan Chapple led the side strongly in what was a mixed season of close wins and losses with the team searching for consistency. Their best cricket will stretch any side in the section and with that spirit they defeated the best team all year, Morphettville Park in the Semi-final, and provided a very close chase to challenge Keswick in the Grand Final . It was a credit to the team to show the resolve to make it to the Grand Final game and they’re now left The B Grade Captain James Redshaw led the side for a third straight season. The team had slowly been building over the previous years and with this experience were victorious against Fitzroy in the Grand Final, after posting an imposing total of 175 runs batting first. Two standout innings were played by Jason Gurd (33) and Craig McEwen (51) with the wickets shared between Andrew Hutchesson, Craig McEwen and Scott Thiele with 3 wickets each. The Southern Serpents Cricket Club would like to give a big thanks to all of the committee members for their commitment to the club. Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to all the players, supporters, wives and girlfriends that played a part this past season - one that has no doubt been one of the most challenging seasons in my 5 years as club president - 5 being the magic number for myself, I am handing the reins over to Anton Balym as our newly elected President. Thanks all for your support in the past. A big shout out to the committee members who have again gone beyond the call of duty and generously given their time in organising events and general administrative assistance this year - I won't name everyone, but I would like to give special mentions to • David Palmer for stepping up when needed to fill the role as B Grade Captain • Karen Pansini (and her little helpers, Inc Angelo) for taking care of BBQ duties, raffle tickets and general help - greatly appreciated • Phil Monahan and all the Captains - Selection nights have been far from easy this season • All the players - it's been a tough year and for those that have played in teams/grades where generally not normal, you have answered the call with great dignity when the club needed you to step up - thanks a bunch

On the back of what was an exceptional 2016/17 season, WCC was hoping for another stellar year ahead of us. Unfortunately, this was not to be with all sides missing out on finals. With this in mind, one could say this past season has been a disappointing year for us - to a degree that's possibly true. BUT.... What we have done well is pull together when the club needed us most - doing what's best for the club, not just the individual. Overall, I believe we showed a great level of determination and strength this past year and we should be proud of this. This past season saw around 23 players leave cricket/the club for one reason or another - Most of which were players from our A or B Grade teams last season. Any way you look at this, it's a massive hole to fill, especially when considering 3 of our 4 teams were moving up a grade this year. To our credit, we stuck to our guns and remained competitive - Some people rose to the challenge magnificently and thrived in their new roles. Sadly, and for the first time in nearly 40years since the WCC was founded, we were unable to fill a team on a Saturday afternoon - In doing so, we notched our first ever forfeit. This grew into 3-4 games in a row and we then made the difficult decision to withdraw from Sec 8 altogether. 165

Most of these guys went into the B Grade together with some assistance from C grade lads to fill the Sec 4 side. At one point our Sec 4 team set a new WCC record for the oldest average player age (from memory it was over 50yrs of age) I'd also like to say a big congrats to our new A Grade Captain this year in Scotty Monaghan - together with all the players that chipped in and did their part in the A Grade this year. This past season was very much a revolving line-up and coming back into Sec 2 with an undermanned list was always going to be hard - yes, we still managed finish the season equal points with 4th place on the ladder - was a wonderful effort and very nearly made it into finals. WESTERN YOUTH CENTRE CRICKET CLUB Club Colours: Green and Gold Founded: 1961

We entered the season with hopes of returning to finals in all grades. We suffered an early loss losing our D grade due to lack of numbers.

We did however go a little way in achieving our goal with both the A grade and B grade making finals and our C grade going close even after forfeiting 2 games.

Our B grade was our best side all year finishing top and losing on the last ball in the semi.

The A grade was a season of two halves terrible before Christmas amazing after to somehow make finals. Then losing in a great semi to Plympton.

Below is a quick wrap of the season. All stats include Finals.

A GRADE – WOW is one way to describe the A grade season, bottom at Xmas then not losing after to make the finals!! Matty D has to be thanked for once again putting his hand up to lead, another solid year by him and the A grade. We did lose the semi in a brilliant game against Plympton which probably should have been the final. A big welcome to some new players that have really helped the club turn things around. Adam Berry, Chris Buttfield and our 2 Malaysians Darvin and Keithan. Great to have you at our club and hope you all enjoyed your first years with many to come at WYC. We need to take that step and get back to winning finals.

Batting: Matt D`Angelo 403 runs @ 31.00 Bowling: Robbie Hopkins 22 Wickets @ 19.64 Fielding: Adam Berry

B GRADE – another WOW. Finishing top by a massive 4 games. Superbly led by Mark Whenan, who not only led but had an amazing season personally. Again, welcome to a Graham Sherlock another new addition to the club who only strengthen our already strong batting. Unfortunately, the B grade lost on the last ball in the Semi Final. This should only make you hungrier to go one better next year, but a great year never then less.

Batting: Graham Sherlock 449 runs @ 29.93 Bowling: Mark Whenan 42 wickets @ 12.88 Fielding: Geoff Brine

C GRADE – always hard when you are the last team with numbers. A big thankyou to a club legend welcome back Billy Likos who took over from Lee when he departed. We welcomed a lot of new faces and were competitive in most of our 173 games narrowly missing finals after 2 forfeits – a massive effort!!! Thanks again Billy and welcome home.

Batting: Billy Likos 202 runs @ 22.44 Bowling: Venkata Sangaraju 21 wickets @ 18.71 Fielding: Safyan Chauhan

I would like to thank the association for a well-run competition – in my humble opinion the best hard wicket competition in the state.

Every year we produce new quality cricketers and our association success shows how good our comp is, not just Sec 1 but all the grades.

Thanks again Shaun Visser ( Vice President)
