Antia Summary t is an understatement to say Zoroastrianism is undergoing transformation as it seems to be at that stage, and fast accelerating to the stage of Idisintegration and even disappearance. It has changed so much in the last one hundred years as to cause alarm for its very existence in near future. What the Arab did not accomplish, modernity has, by bringing us close to self- destruction. This is not the first time Zoroastrians in diaspora have faced threats to their existence but certainly this is the last time they will face such threat unless they find a genuine solution to this crisis. And adhering to Zarathushtrianism and eternal precepts of Asho Zarathushtra rather than Zoroastrianism, which represents all that was composed and preached under the name of Zarathushtra through millennia, and may or may not be in the consonance with the prophet’s teachings. The Iranian Zoroastrians provide us an excellent example in this respect. To say that Zoroastrianism is undergoing transformation is tantamount to ignoring the deathly crisis it is facing today. Zoroastrianism is long past the process of transformation, and is facing the danger and disintegration and disappearance before long. However, the sadder truth is Zoroastrianism is in such a state of affairs because it has not realized the wisdom of transforming itself, and adjusting to the need of the changing times that have taken a toll on all religions in the world. Had we taken care of this in the past, the future will not look so gloomy and helpless today.

INTRODUCTION I have heard it said that one does not need many heroes if one chooses wisely. Nadine Strossen is one of my heroes. In addition to being a dear friend, she is my role model of a person who combines being a committed teacher, an accomplished scholar, and an activist for social justice. About fifteen years ago, we attended a conference in San Antonio and took a long walk along the River Walk. As we did, she mentioned that she was thi,nking of running to be president of the American Civil Liberties Union ("ACLU") to replace Norman Dorsen, who led the organization so successfully for many years. As a long-time ACLU member, I was thrilled to hear this and said that I could not imagine anyone in the country who would be better. Her accomplishments as ACLU president have been enormous and have exceeded what anyone could possibly have imagined. I am honored to have been included in this symposium in Nadine's honor. As I considered_ a topic, I decided I wanted to focus on the war on terrorism and civil liberties. Without a doubt, the greatest threats to civil liberties during Nadine's presidency of the ACLU have been the events since September 11, 200 I. The unprecedented attack on American soil combined with a presidential administration totally insensitive to considerations of civil liberties have combined to create profound threats to individual liberties.

It has since served as the World’s manual of leadership, from Alexander, Scipio, Cicero, Caesar, Machiavelli who read and drew inspiration from it, so on to our times. In the estimation of Peter Drucker, widely recognized as the father of modern management science, the first book on leadership was still the best.

Jerome Bishop Staff writer Inside a dark, spacious warehouse on Logistics Support Area Anaconda, nine Soldiers are making their contribution to an upcoming operation taking place hundreds of miles away. The Soldiers are parachute riggers with the 623rd Quartermaster Company in support of the 372nd Transportation Company, 129th Corps Support Battalion, 507th Corps Support Group, and their mission – to prepare two week’s worth of rations and water to be air-dropped to sustain operations in Iraq. “Right now we’re loading Meals, Ready to Eat for ongoing operations,” said Staff Sgt. Matthew Hanrahan, air operations sergeant for the 623rd QM Co. “The most important thing is we’re taking people off the road by doing this. The key is sustaining the people who are setting up this operation with 15 days worth of food,” he said. “We’ll be dropping almost 4,000 cases of MREs,” Hanrahan said. “This is the only mission that has been dictated to us so far. As the operation moves on, that will dictate what we drop.” The supplies being loaded aren’t the only ones that will be dropped during the course of an operation. The riggers are prepared to get more supplies ready as time goes on. “Once [the unit we’re supplying] gets established,” Hanrahan said, “we’ll move on to support a different group.” Since their deployment started this past December, the Soldiers of the 623rd QM Co., had little opportunity to serve as parachute riggers.

    chapter 2 447 Zoroastrian Communism* According to Xanthus of Lydia, who wrote in the fifth century b.c., the Magi considered it right to have intercourse with their mothers, daughters, and sisters and also to hold women in common.1 The first half of this claim is perfectly correct: Xanthus is here referring to the Zoroastrian institution of close-kin marriage (khwēdōdāh), the existence of which is not (or no longer) in doubt.2 But his belief that the Magi held women in common undoubtedly rests on a misunderstanding, possibly of easy divorce laws and more probably of the institution of wife lending.3 In the fifth century a.d., however, we once more hear of Persians who deemed it right to have women in common; and this time the claim is less easy to brush aside. The Persians in question were heretics, not orthodox Zoroastrians or their priests; their heresy was to the effect that both land and women should be held in common, not just women (though the first attempt to implement it did apparently concern itself with women alone); and the heretics are described, not just by Greeks, let alone a single observer, but also by Syriac authors and the Persians themselves as preserved in Zoroastrian sources and the Islamic tradition.     Zarathushtra and the legendary dynasties by Ervads Soli Dastur and Jehan Bagli Saturday May 19, 2007 Pishdadian Dynasty The history of Persia and that of the Zarathushtrian Faith is deeply intertwined. The story begins with a legendary House of monarchs known as Pishdadian. The word Pishdad is a later modification of the ancient word Paradhata meaning the ancient lawgiver. The founder of this dynasty was Kayomerz (in ancient Persian) or Gayo-maretan (in Avestan) or Gayomard (in Pahlavi). These words essentially refer to the first mortal man, Gayo- meaning life and – maretan refers to mortal human. In principle the dynasty is believed to have started with the inception of the creation of the mortal man. Kayomerz with his two successors Hushang and Tahmurus is believed to have laid the foundation of cultural civilization in Iran. In the prayers of Dibache for afringan we recite az Gayomard anda Sosyos. Here we remember the fravashis of the entire mankind starting with Gayomard and ending with Saoshyant. In Fravardin Yasht (13.87) where we revere the fravashi of Gayomard, we are told Ahurai Mazdai manascha gushta sasnaoscha. This means he was the first to have heard the intentions and admonitions of Ahura Mazda. It is believed that he and the creation of the good God lasted for some three thousand years, at which time there was an onslaught of evil on the good creation. This brought an end to the era of Gayomard and his life. Mythology speaks of the legendary evolution of the Rivas plant from the slain body of Gayomard and the first man Mashya and woman Mashyani sprang forth as flowers from that plant.
