CHARLES “BUBBA” WELLS, ASSISTANT COACH The 2019-20 season marks the Ohio Valley Conference great and former NBA player’s fifth season on the Cougar basketball staff. Wells came to SIUE after spending 10 seasons on the staff at his alma mater, Austin Peay, where he is the all-time leading scorer with 2,267 points and is a member of the Athletics Hall of Fame. His No. 13 jersey is retired by the school. The Governors won OVC regular season championships in 2006-07 and 2007-08 with Wells as an assistant coach. The 2007-08 team won the OVC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA tournament, falling to second-seeded Texas in the first round. Wells assists with all facets of the SIUE program, and specializes in working with the Cougars’ post players. The 2,267 career points ranks Wells as the fifth-leading scorer in OVC history. During his playing career, Wells earned three first-team All-OVC selections. He was the 1996 and 1997 OVC Male Athlete of the Year winner and the 1997 OVC Player of the Year in men’s basketball. He also was a two-time Austin Peay Outstand- ing Male Athlete in 1995-96 and 1996-97. As a player, Austin Peay won the OVC regular season title in 1997 and the 1996 OVC Tournament title, in which Wells was selected as the Tournament MVP. He continues to hold OVC Tournament records for the most points in a game, scoring 43 against Morehead State in the 1997 tournament, and total points in the tournament (99 in 1997 tournament). He also holds the records for field goals made and attempted in a game as well as in a tournament. The native of Russellville, Kentucky, averaged 21.6 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game and connected on 52 percent of his shots during his playing career. Wells earned his degree in Public Personnel Management from Austin Peay in 1997. He was then drafted by the Dallas Mavericks and played one season in the NBA. He also played professionally in the Philippines and Greece. He played two seasons for the Harlem Globetrotters. In August 2007, he married the former Tracee Jones, the former head women’s basketball coach at Tennessee State. Wells has one daughter, Alyiah, who is a sophomore volleyball player at Alabama, and one son, Chase Rishard, born to he and Tracee. TROY PIERCE, ASSISTANT COACH Troy Pierce joined the SIUE men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in May 2019. Pierce comes to SIUE after spending the last three seasons at Bradley as the Braves’ Coordinator of Player Development and Video Operations. With Pierce on staff, the Braves saw their win total increase from 13 in 2016-17 to back-to-back seasons of 20 wins. Bradley captured the Missouri Valley Conference Tourna- ment title in 2019. The MVC championship was the first for Bradley in 31 years. The NCAA tournament appearance was the first since 2006. At Bradley, Pierce was responsible for player development, video operations and academics where he helped in the progress of two All-Missouri Valley Confer- ence players. Five Bradley student-athletes were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. Prior to his time at Bradley, Pierce was an assistant at Emporia State, helping the Hornets to two Mid-America Athletic Association Tournament appearances. Pierce handled scouting, video, academics and player development at Emporia State. Pierce began his coaching career at Illinois-Springfield during the 2013-14 season when the Prairie Stars earned their first Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament win. The native of Emporia, Kansas, began his playing career at Butler Community College, where he helped lead the Grizzlies to 54 wins in two seasons as well as Conference and Re- gion VI championships and a National Tournament appearance. He earned accolades as a first team all-region selection. Pierce continued his playing career at Charleston Southern and Emporia State. He earned his bachelor’s in psychology and his master’s in health and physical education, both from Emporia State. Pierce and his wife, Raney, have two children. MIKE WALDO, ASSISTANT COACH Hall of Fame Coach Mike Waldo joined the SIUE men’s basketball staff in September 2018. Waldo spent 35 years as a head coach, including the last 30 at Edwardsville High School. The native of Granite City, Illinois, finished his career with a 727-266 record for a .732 winning percentage. He won 21 regional titles, seven sectional titles and 10 Southwestern Conference championships during his time at EHS. Prior to his time with the Tigers, Waldo was the head coach for five seasons at Alton Marquette High School. His teams won 81 games over five seasons and captured the school’s first regional title in 1988. He boasted four 30-win seasons and 21 20-win seasons during his time as a head coach. Waldo is a graduate of SIUE and played two seasons of basketball for the Cougars.

COLIN SCHNEIDER, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS Colin Schneider joined the SIUE men’s basketball staff in June 2019. Schneider came to SIUE after spending five seasons in the NBA. Most recently, Schneider spent three seasons as the Head Video Coordinator with the Sacramento Kings, where he assisted the coaching staff with all video operations including prepar- ing scouting videos and game plans for each opponent. Prior to his time in Sacramento, He was the Assistant Video Coordinator for the Memphis Grizzlies. Not a stranger to Division I basketball, Schneider was the Director of Basketball Operations for Green Bay for three seasons, overseeing the program’s budget, travel, student-workers, film exchange, on-campus recruiting, scouting reports, practice planning and video editing. He also spent three seasons as a student assitant for the Phoenix. He earned a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional studies from Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2010 and a master’s in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2013.
