The sheltered harbour conditions have made Lisbon a major port for two millennia, and as a result of the maritime exploits of the Age of Discoveries Lisbon became the centre of an imperial Portugal. Modern Lisbon is a diverse, exciting, creative city where the ancient and modern mix, and adventure hides around every corner. 2018 Venue: The Altice Arena Sitting like a beautiful UFO on the banks of the River Tagus, the Altice Arena has hosted events as diverse as technology forum Web Summit, the 2002 World Fencing Championships and Kylie Minogue’s Portuguese debut concert. With a maximum capacity of 20000 people and an innovative wooden internal structure intended to invoke the form of Portuguese carrack, the arena was constructed specially for Expo ‘98 and very well served by the Lisbon public transport system. 2018 Hosts: Sílvia Alberto, Filomena Cautela, Catarina Furtado, Daniela Ruah Sílvia Alberto is a graduate of both Lisbon Film and Theatre School and RTP’s Clube Disney. She has hosted Portugal’s edition of Dancing With The Stars and since 2008 has been the face of Festival da Cançao. Filomena Cautela is the funniest person on Portuguese TV. -
L'italia E L'eurovision Song Contest Un Rinnovato

From Assimilation to Kalomoira: Satellite Television and Its Place in New York City’S Greek Community

Four main concepts guide this paper, based on prior theoretical research established in the field of Diaspora studies: authenticity, assertive hybridity, cultural capital, and imagined communities. Satellite television broadcasts from Greece have targeted the audience of the Hellenic Diaspora as an extension of the homeland, and as a result, are viewed as more “authentic” than Diaspora-based broadcasts. Assertive hybridity is exemplified through satellite programming such as reality shows and the emergence of transnational pop stars such as Kalomoira, who was born and raised in New York but attained celebrity status in Greece as the result of her participation on the Greek reality show Fame Story. Finally, satellite television broadcasts from Greece have fostered the formation of a transnational imagined community, linked by the shared viewing of Greek satellite programming and the simultaneous consumption of Greek pop culture and acquisition of cultural capital. All of the above concepts are evident in the emergence of a Greek “café culture” and “sports culture”, mediated by satellite television and visible in the community’s public spaces. -
Lieu : Koncertna Dvorana Vatroslav Lisinski De Zagreb ( Yougoslavie )
Lieu : Koncertna Dvorana Vatroslav Orchestre : Orchestre de la JRT. Lisinski de Zagreb ( Yougoslavie ). Présentation : Helga Vlahovic & Oliver Date : Samedi 5 Mai. Mlakar. -

60TH ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE 24 APRIL 2015 #Eurovision60 The Eurovision Song Contest is not just a pop song competition: often, it is a musical manifestation of political and social issues of great significance. Melissa Scott ,, “New Europe, Center Stage - Orientalism and Nationalism in the Eurovision Song Contest”, Midway Review 2011 2 INTRODUCTION In 1956 the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) created the Eurovision Song Contest to foster closer ties between nations and to advance television technology. In 2015 the 60th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Vienna. Over the past six decades the Eurovision Song Contest has created a European identity far beyond the confines of political unions and continental boundaries. The EBU is marking the event's 60th anniversary by celebrating not just the Contest’s musical achievements but also its impact on the European public sphere in areas such as forming national and European identities, embracing diversity and building cultural insight and understanding. An international manhunt was well under way for the plotters behind the world’s biggest-ever computer ransom assault. The indiscrimi- nate attack, which began Friday, struck banks, hospitals and government agencies in more than 150 countries, exploiting known vulnerabilities in old Microsoft com- puter operating systems. US package delivery giant FedEx, European car facto- ries, Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, Britain’s health service and Germany’s Deutsche Bahn rail network were among those hit. Europol executive director Rob Wainwright said the situation could worsen today as workers return to their offices after the weekend and log on. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” the head of the European Union’s policing agency told Britain’s ITV televi- sion, calling its reach “unprecedented”. “The latest count is over 200,000 victims in at least 150 countries. Many of those victims will be businesses, including large corporations. We’re in the face of an esca- lating threat. -
