Dave Bennett Biography Dave Bennett Biography For starters, you don’t find many jazz clarinet players who name Alice Cooper, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Chris Isaak among their influences. You also won’t find many musicians who are equally conversant with the music of Benny Goodman (the “King of Swing”) and Roy Orbison (“The Soul of Rock and Roll”). Bennett is a clarinet virtuoso who plays electric guitar, piano, drums, AND vocalizes. Saluting Swing to Rock: covering music from the Swing Era to early Rockabilly and Country, to Elvis Presley and more. Leading His Tribute to Benny Goodman, Dave has been a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall with The New York Pops (2013) and has played the show with 35 other US and Canadian orchestras including Nashville, Detroit, Rochester, Omaha, Toronto, Vancouver, Orlando, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Portland, OR and Portland, ME, and Houston. Fifty performing arts centers across the USA have had success with his presentations. An annual fixture at several American music festivals, Dave’s “Rockin the ‘50s” show always brings down the house! Dave pays tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis (piano and vocals), and Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley (electric guitar and vocals). Dave’s original compositions are influenced by the style of Roy Orbison, the “Soul of Rock and Roll”. Some of his annual “roots music” presenters include The Elkhart Jazz Festival, The Suncoast Classic Jazz Festival, The Arizona Classic Jazz Festival, The Southeast Clambake Music Festival, and The Redwood Coast Music Festival. Dave has been featured on NPR Radio’s “Jazz at Riverwalk.” He made his European debut in 2008 at the The Bern Jazz Festival (Switzerland) in a combo with jazz legends and Benny Goodman band alumni guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and vibraphonist, the late Peter Appleyard. Dave is a Mack Avenue Records artist. His 2013 CD “Don’t Be That Way” met with critical acclaim. His second release, Blood Moon, which features five originals and six pop/jazz covers, hit the No 24 on the Billboard Jazz chart in 2018.     Howard Alden- Jazz Guitarist “He may be the best of his generation,” writes Owen Cordle in JAZZ TIMES. George Kanzler of the NEWARK STAR LEDGER proclaims that he is “the most impressive and creative member of a new generation of jazz guitarists.” And Chip Deffaa of the NEW YORK POST observes that he is “ ...one of the very finest young guitarists working today.” It seems that the only thing regarding Howard Alden on which the critics have debate is whether the remarkable jazz guitarist is one of the best or simply the best. Born in Newport Beach, California, in 1958, Howard began playing at age ten, inspired by recordings of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie and Benny Goodman, as well as those by guitarists Barney Kessel, Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and George Van Eps. Soon he was working professionally around Los Angeles playing in groups ranging from traditional to mainstream to modern jazz. In 1979, Alden went east, for a summer in Atlantic City with vibraphone legend Red Norvo, and continued to perform with him frequently for several years. Upon moving to New York City in 1982, Aldenʼs skills, both as soloist and accompanist, were quickly recognized and sought-out for appearances and recordings with such artists as Joe Bushkin, Ruby Braff, Joe Williams, Warren Vache` and Woody Herman. He has continued to win accolades from critics and musicians alike, adding Benny Carter, Flip Phillips, Mel Powell, Bud Freeman, Kenny Davern, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie and George Van Eps, as well as notable contemporaries such as Scott Hamilton and Ken Peplowski to his list of impressive credits.

    I’m Hip -- Please Don’t Tell My Father John Pizzarelli Quartet-- September 7th at The Whitefish Performing Arts Center September 8th at Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts. John Pizzarelli is a great storyteller, and that’s a tremendous asset for an entertainer. But he’s also a terrific jazz guitarist fond of playful and frisky musical conversations as well. Add to that, he sings, respectfully interpreting the Great American Songbook with easygoing crooning and occasional wisecracking humor. John Pizzarelli is the son of journeyman swing guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli. He still occasioinally performs with his famous father Bucky, who is now late into his 80’s. John’s first release was entitled, I’m Hip -- Please Don’t Tell My Father (1983). John Pizzarelli has recorded over twenty albums since 1990, and he’s appeared on more than forty albums of other recording artists including Sir Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Rosemary Clooney. The John Pizzarelli Trio opened several dates on Frank Sinatra’s 1993 tour, and he was part of the legendary vocalist’s 80th birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall. John’s a lucky guy because work and play for him are pretty much the same thing. He likes to describe his sound as updated old-school.
