Sara Caswell is an award-winning classical and jazz violinist who spent her formative years under the tutelage of two internationally renowned teachers: Josef Gingold en classical violin and David Baker on jazz improvisation. Her success in both arenas has led Baker to refer to Ms. Caswell as "a brilliant world-class violinist en the threshold of a major career as a classical solo artist" as well as "one of the very best of the present generation of emerging young jazz stars." A graduate o~ Indiana University, which she attended under full scholarship as a Well's Scholar, Sara received Bachelor of Music degrees with High Distinction and an Artist Diploma in both classical violin performance and jazz studies. She was also awarded prestigious Performer's Certificates in both areas of study. In addition to her years of study with Gingold, she has studied classical violin with Franco Gulli, Henryk Kowalski, and Mimi Zweig, baroque violin with Stanley Ritchie, and jazz improvisation with many of today's top artists.

Among her 100+ awards are several first-place prizes of Young Artists Competitions as well as finalist spots in several national and international violin competitions. Most recently Sara was chosen to participate in the prestigious International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. At last month's American String Teacher's Association (ASTA) competition, Sara wan the Senior Division Alternative Styles Award in Improvisation. Ms. Caswell has garnered several DownBea ) Awards, a front-line position in the 1998 Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Competition, top combo and solo awards at 16 jazz festivals, and jazz scholarships-including the Glenn Miller Instrumental Scholarship and two Sarasota Jazz Club National Scholarships.

As a jazz artist, Sara has performed at jazz festivals and concert series throughout North America, e.g., being featured in a performance with John Blake, Jr. at the 2003 International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Conference in Toronto, Canada and at Carnegie Hall as a guest artist with 's New York Pops Allstars. Her wide- ranging performing opportunities include opening for Geri Allen and Danilo Perez; playing in concert with Charlie Byrd, Ingrid Jensen, , , and John Clayton; and touring as the youngest member of Four Generations of Jazz Violin with Darol Anger, , Joe Kennedy Jr., and Matt Glaser. She enjoys performing newly commissioned jazz violin arrangements with symphonr, orchestras and leading her own jazz quartet. Her debut CD, First son~ with , Steve Davis, and Jack Helsley has been released internationally on Double-Time Records. Ms. Caswell teaches at Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Camp and has taught at Jamey Aebersold's Summer Jazz Workshops as well a serving en jazz education panels at national IAJE and AST A conferences.
