IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT APPLE M1 SYSTEMS We are working to ensure that Suitcase Fusion and its auto-activation plug-ins work seamlessly on Apple M1 systems. For now, we recommend that you should not install Suitcase Fusion on Apple M1 systems. Macintosh n macOS™ 10.14, 10.15, and macOS 11 n Safari® 12 or later, or the current release of Microsoft Edge, Firefox®, or Chrome™ (for viewing Help) Windows n Windows® 10 n Microsoft® .NET Framework version 4.5.1 or later (installed automatically if not already present) n The current release of Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or Chrome (for viewing Help) NOTES n Some features require an Internet connection. n Suitcase Fusion requires a 64-bit operating system. n Suitcase Fusion no longer supports macOS 10.13 High Sierra. n Suitcase Fusion does not include auto-activation XTensions for QuarkXPress. What’s new View release notes for Suitcase Fusion at https://www.extensis.com/support/suitcase-fusion-21/release- notes/. Version 21.3 n We have added an auto-activation plug-in for Adobe After Effects CC 2021. Version 21.2.3 n We added a warning when attempting to activate more than 100 fonts. We found it was too easy to accidentally activate an entire library instead of a set or a single font, and for large libraries this could tie up Suitcase Fusion. Suitcase Fusion Support: https://www.extensis.com/support/suitcase-fusion-21/ Suitcase Fusion Release Notes: https://www.extensis.com/support/suitcase-fusion-21/release-notes/ - 5 - Version 21.2 n Auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe Creative Cloud 2021 releases of Illustrator, InCopy, InDesign, and Photoshop. n Extensis Font Panel support for Adobe CC 2021 releases of Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. n Support for macOS 11 Big Sur. IMPORTANT: With the release of Creative Cloud 2021, Adobe no longer supports Creative Cloud 2018 applications. Therefore, Suitcase Fusion 21.2 does not include plug-ins for CC 2018 applications. If your workflow relies on these unsupported applications, then you should not install or upgrade to Suitcase Fusion 21.2. CC 2018 plug-ins are included with Suitcase Fusion 21.1.1. Installers are available from the following links: n Mac (for macOS 10.13–10.15) n Windows (for Windows 7 & 10) Version 21.1 n In this release of Suitcase Fusion we introduce an optional split pane view for fonts. In addition to the preview-only Fonts pane, you can switch to a split-pane view with Previews on the top and a columnar Font List on the bottom. This has changed how some features of Suitcase Fusion work; for details, see The Fonts pane on page 15. n We have added support for Dark Mode on macOS. Version 21.0.1 Suitcase Fusion no longer works directly with Monotype™ Mosaic or SkyFonts™. Version 21.0.0 Document Collecting For any tracked document, you can gather the document, the fonts that the document uses, and any linked documents and images together into a folder. This allows you to gather documents and resources for distribution, which is especially useful if the document’s application does not have its own “collect” feature. Other new features n Auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe Creative Cloud 2020 releases of After Effects, Illustrator, InCopy, InDesign, and Photoshop. n The Extensis Font Panel for Adobe CC 2020 releases of Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. n Auto-activation plug-in and document tracking for Sketch. n Document tracking for Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher. n User Management: This allows you to assign and re-assign licenses for multiple Suitcase purchases. See Archive your Font Vault on page 64. 3. Disable or uninstall any other font manager. If you are running Suitcase Fusion 6 (version 17.x) or later, you can just stop the Type Core and continue. (We recommend that you uninstall an older version but it is not required.) If you are running Universal Type Server or a different font manager, uninstall it or disable it before running Suitcase Fusion. See Other font managers on page 61 for instructions. 4. Download the Suitcase Fusion installer. Get it from Suitcase Fusion Support. 5. Install the application. On Mac, open the disk image and drag the Suitcase Fusion icon into your Applications folder. On Windows, run the installer and follow the instructions. 6. Start Suitcase Fusion. • Troubleshooting
Chapter 33 Troubleshooting IN THIS CHAPTER: I The SECRETS Rule of Three I Error messages explained I Oddities on the screen I Startup troubles I Disk troubles I File, desktop, and icon ailments I Keyboard snafus PRINCIPLES OF TROUBLESHOOTING The Macintosh has an infinite number of cooks. There are the programmers at Apple who wrote the system software. There are the programmers who wrote the software you use, including the extensions and control panels that modify the system software. And then there’s the hardware, complete with a number of additional software elements (in the ROM chips, for example), both from Apple and other companies. With so many instructions being shouted at it, no wonder the Mac can get flustered and throw up its hands in frustration. The problems you may encounter vary: 1047 1048 Part IV: Attachments I Mysterious system crashes or freezes I Error messages I Startup problems (the blinking question mark icon or the Sad Mac icon) I Application problems, when the Mac simply doesn’t do what it’s sup- posed to I Printing troubles I Disk problems (their icons don’t show up on the desktop or the Mac reports that they’re “not a Macintosh disk”) A word about troubleshooting There’s a certain emotional element to a Mac going wrong. The Mac, after all, is betraying you, usually at a moment when you can least afford it. We don’t know about you, but when our Macs go goofy, we feel a rising well of frustra- tion and loss of control. Our heart rate doesn’t go back to normal until some semblance of normal operation has returned.

  • Teacher's Knowledge of Student Thinking and Their Instructional
TEACHERS’ KNOWLEDGE OF STUDENT THINKING AND THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES IN ALGEBRA by AYHAN KURSAT ERBAS (Under the Direction of James W. Wilson) ABSTRACT This study was designed to address and contribute to our emerging knowledge and understanding of teachers’ knowledge of student difficulties and related issues with instructional practices in algebra. The perspectives suggested by the constructs of teaching in context, cognitively guided instruction, and pedagogical content knowledge influenced the theoretical orientations of the present study. Since “knowing” is a variety of separate entities, I found the distinction of knowing as knowing-about (i.e., knowing-that, knowing-why, knowing-how) and knowing-to useful to look at different degrees of knowing. Qualitative case study research design and methodologies were used in generating data collected from two inservice mathematics teachers of first year algebra (one eighth-grade and one ninth-grade teacher) who were selected purposefully. Data collection strategies included conducting audio-recorded semi-structured interviews, making video-recorded classroom observations, and collecting archival documents. Data stories about each case included thick descriptions of each participant’s beliefs, knowledge, and practices concerning student thinking. Findings revealed that even though both teachers presented an awareness and recognition of students’ thinking and difficulties in terms of “knowing-that,” their knowledge in terms of “knowing-why” and “knowing-how” was narrow and even problematic
