Hannibal Buress Comes to the Arcada FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Alison Trovato 630.361.2265 | [email protected] February 8, 2018 Comedy Central Comedian Hannibal Buress Comes to the Arcada St. Charles, IL: The Arcada Theatre continues its "Superstar Comedy Series" with "Broad City" star and "The Eric Andre Show" co-host, Hannibal Buress on Sunday, March 18. The stand-up comic, writer and actor sold-out his first national theatre comedy tour and currently has his third, hour-long stand-up special, "Comedy Camisado," streaming on Netflix. He's written for NBC’s Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock and was lauded by The New York Times as “one of the most supremely gifted and respected comics around.” On Hannibal’s hilarious and highly anticipated comedy set, Arcada President and CEO Ron Onesti said, "After hosting big names including Steven Wright, Norm McDonald, Howie Mandel and most recently Dennis Miller, I am excited to continue our Comedy Superstars Series with Hannibal, one of the funniest guys I have ever seen!" Hannibal’s comedy is anything but routine. “I'm doin' something different.” said Hannibal, "I just try to do what I think is funny; there's no huge message or through line.” Hannibal prides himself in delivering a show-stopping set every night so as not to taint the “art form” of stand-up comedy and inspire audiences to seek out new sources of entertainment. Another point of interest with Hannibal is the fact that he was named after a Carthaginian military general, Hannibal Barca, but often has to assure women that he has no association with the widely popular cannibal, Hannibal Lecter. On the big screen, Hannibal is best known for his roles in “Neighbors” alongside Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, and “Daddy’s Home” with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. He’s been featured on several fan-favorite TV shows including “Louie” and “The Mindy Project” and has a recognizable voice in Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers” and films “The Secret Life of Pets” and “Angry Birds” . Tickets for the 7:00 show range from $39 - $99 and are available at oshows.com or by calling 630-962-7000. The Historic Arcada Theatre is a 900-seat Vaudeville-era theatre that hosts over 300 live concerts annually. Interview opportunities with Hannibal Buress are available. CONNECT SELECT A wide selection of interesting and trending stories – rip ‘em, read ‘em and post ‘em! THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4th, 2021 TODAY IS… NATIONAL HOMEMADE SOUP DAY – Who’s feeling under the weather? From chicken to borscht to wonton soup, just about every culture has its own way of warming up with a comforting bowl of something delicious. NATIONAL HEMP DAY – This stuff can do anything! It’s been a part of human civilization for thousands of years and continues to amaze. It’s used to make clothes, CBD, paint and biofuels. It’s even being used now as a replacement for concrete (called hempcrete). Hemp got a bad rap when it was lumped into the same classification as heroin and LSD, but growing it was legalized again a few years ago. OPTIMIST DAY (First Thursday in February) – Celebrating all the optimists who made a difference in our lives. Whether they coach community sports or are inventing the next big thing, their can-do attitude is an inspiration to us all. Now go do something great! NATIONAL THANK A MAIL CARRIER DAY – Just because they deliver your credit card bill doesn’t mean they don’t deserve your gratitude. The first organized mail service in America was created back in 1775 and without them, this last year would have sucked a whole lot more. FRIENDS DAY/FACEBOOK’S BIRTHDAY – February 4 is 'Friends Day,’ aka Facebook’s birthday. The day is a way to celebrate people connected through Facebook, even if it’s just your crazy uncle. Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004 from his dorm room at Harvard as a way for students to connect with friends (but really it was a way for nerds to rank hot chicks).

  • Mary Sjaarda "Critic-As-Artist; Paraesthetic Theory and 'The Eric
Mary Sjaarda KGVC 520 Zeeuw Critic-as-Artist: Paraesthetic Theory and The Eric Andre Show The late-night talk show has become one of the most prolific, self-sustaining, and arguably exploitative genres to be shaped by American television’s history. In its commitment to pleasing sponsors, idealizing celebrities, and maintaining a sense of the status quo, the talk show format has remained rigid and unchallenged for decades. Since its debut on the Adult Swim network in 2012, The Eric Andre Show has disrupted the inoffensive monotony and disingenuous positivity of the late-night talk show culture by its employment of surreal anti-aesthetic and meta-comedic strategies, essentially laying the foundation for a conceptual slaughter of the talk show format. At first glance, The Eric Andre Show emulates a low-budget public access-style show before dissenting into complete madness, with host Eric Andre wildly demolishing his entire set at the beginning of each episode while being casually ignored by his laconic foil, co-host Hannibal Burress—it’s as if their critical awareness of the archaic banality of the talk show genre is overcome by the sudden urge to completely destroy it from within. The Eric Andre Show considers and subverts the artifice and tropes of late-night talk shows and becomes a study into David Carroll’s theory of paraesthetics. By deconstructing the forms of the late-night talk show genre, The Eric Andre Show exposes the perceived ‘reality’ viewers have accepted since the genre’s inception—but at what cost? There is no better starting point for thought than laughter; speaking more precisely, spasms of the diaphragm generally offer better changes for thought than spasms of the soul.1 —Walter Benjamin 1 Walter Benjamin, Understanding Brecht (New York, London; Verso, 1998): 101.
