The Globalization of Chinese Food ANTHROPOLOGY OF ASIA SERIES Series Editor: Grant Evans, University ofHong Kong Asia today is one ofthe most dynamic regions ofthe world. The previously predominant image of 'timeless peasants' has given way to the image of fast-paced business people, mass consumerism and high-rise urban conglomerations. Yet much discourse remains entrenched in the polarities of 'East vs. West', 'Tradition vs. Change'. This series hopes to provide a forum for anthropological studies which break with such polarities. It will publish titles dealing with cosmopolitanism, cultural identity, representa tions, arts and performance. The complexities of urban Asia, its elites, its political rituals, and its families will also be explored. • When Is the Best Time to Go to Hong Kong?
Page 1 of 98 Chris’ Copyrights @ 2011 When Is The Best Time To Go To Hong Kong? Winter Season (December - March) is the most relaxing and comfortable time to go to Hong Kong but besides the weather, there's little else to do since the "Sale Season" occurs during Summer. There are some sales during Christmas & Chinese New Year but 90% of the clothes are for winter. Hong Kong can get very foggy during winter, as such, visit to the Peak is a hit-or-miss affair. A foggy bird's eye view of HK isn't really nice. Summer Season (May - October) is similar to Manila's weather, very hot but moving around in Hong Kong can get extra uncomfortable because of the high humidity which gives the "sticky" feeling. Hong Kong's rainy season also falls on their summer, July & August has the highest rainfall count and the typhoons also arrive in these months. The Sale / Shopping Festival is from the start of July to the start of September. If the sky is clear, the view from the Peak is great. Avoid going to Hong Kong when there are large-scale exhibitions or ongoing tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament because hotel prices will be significantly higher. Reviews were prepared and published in 1991, 1993 and 1996. This is the fourth and the last review. 2. The First Review in 1991 summarised progress during the first two years of the programme, noting that action in most areas (with the exception of water pollution control measures) was proceeding in an encouraging way. The Second Review (1993), a more comprehensive document emphasized that protecting and sustaining the environment was a responsibility, not of some particular sector of society, but of all of us. The Third Review was aimed at arousing the public's awareness of the concept of sustainability. It contributed to informing the public and stimulating their debate on various environmental issues.

University of Queensland School of Languages & Comparative Cultural Studies Master of Arts in Chinese Translation and Interpreting CHIN7180 - Thesis Translation of Short Texts: A case study of street names in Hong Kong Student: Shirmaine Cheung Supervisor: Professor Nanette Gottlieb June 2010 ©2010 The Author Not to be reproduced in any way except for the purposes of research or study as permitted by the Copyright Act 1968 Abstract The topic of this research paper is “Translation of Short Texts: A case study of street names in Hong Kong”. It has been observed that existing translation studies literature appears to cater mainly for long texts. This suggests that there may be a literature gap with regard to short text translation. Investigating how short texts are translated would reveal whether mainstream translation theories and strategies are also applicable to such texts. Therefore, the objectives of the paper are two-fold. Firstly, it seeks to confirm whether there is in fact a gap in the existing literature on short texts by reviewing corpuses of leading works in translation studies. Secondly, it investigates how short texts have been translated by examining the translation theories and strategies used. This is done by way of a case study on street names in Hong Kong. The case study also seeks to remedy the possible paucity of translation literature on short texts by building an objective and representative database to function as an effective platform for examining how street names have been translated. Data, including street names in English and Chinese, are collected by way of systematic sampling from the entire data population.

  • (“EOI”) for Operating the Rehabus Feeder Services
Invitation for Expression of Interest (“EOI”) for Operating the Rehabus Feeder Services In 2018, the Transport Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (“TD”) invited interested parties (Proponents) to operate the Rehabus Feeder Services with effect from 1 June 2019 for a time period of three years. After years of operation, it is proven that to engage another Rehabus operator to provide Rehabus service can improve the operational efficiency in general. As the service period of the existing Rehabus operator will soon be expired, TD invites Proponents to operate the Rehabus Feeder Services and it is expected that the operator will start to commence the services from 1 June 2022 for a period of 5 years. TD may extend the operating period of the Rehabus Feeder Services for a further period or periods not exceeding 5 years at any one time, so that the operating period granted together with all extensions thereof shall not in any case exceed a period of 10 years in aggregate. Hong Kong Cultural Celebrations 香港傳統文化滙 25 April – 11 May 2011 (17 days) Festival Details of Birthday of Tin Hau 天后誕節慶詳情 Introduction 簡介 Birthday of Tin Hau Fishermen and boat people who owe their livelihood to the sea praise Tin Hau, the Goddess of the Sea who is believed to be able to forecast the weather and save people from shipwrecks. She is the city’s most popular deity who has over 70 temples dedicated to her. On Tin Hau’s birthday, fishermen adorn their boats with colourful flags and people pay homage at the temples praising the goddess for past protection and praying for safety and full nets for the coming year. Major celebrations take place at Tai Temple (“Big Temple), the oldest surviving temple in Hong Kong at Joss House Bay in Sai Kung. Celebrations include a boat parade, a “Fa Pau” (floral shrine) parade and lion dances. Another important celebration is in Yuen Long’s Tai Shu Ha where there is a three-hour procession including lion and dragon dances, a “Fa Pau” parade, a marching band and cultural performances. Celebratory Festivities of Tin Hau Festival 天后誕慶祝活動 Yuen Long Shap Pat Heung Tin Hau Festival Procession (25 April 2011) 元朗十八鄉天后誕會景巡遊 (2011 年 4 月 25 日) One of the highlights of the Tin Hau festivities is the procession in Shap Pat Heung (means 18 villages in Cantonese) in Yuen Long in the New Territories which has been held for the past 48 years.
