Hong Kong Cultural Celebrations 香港傳統文化滙festival Details Of Hong Kong Cultural Celebrations 香港傳統文化滙 25 April – 11 May 2011 (17 days) Festival Details of Birthday of Tin Hau 天后誕節慶詳情 Introduction 簡介 Birthday of Tin Hau Fishermen and boat people who owe their livelihood to the sea praise Tin Hau, the Goddess of the Sea who is believed to be able to forecast the weather and save people from shipwrecks. She is the city’s most popular deity who has over 70 temples dedicated to her. On Tin Hau’s birthday, fishermen adorn their boats with colourful flags and people pay homage at the temples praising the goddess for past protection and praying for safety and full nets for the coming year. Major celebrations take place at Tai Temple (“Big Temple), the oldest surviving temple in Hong Kong at Joss House Bay in Sai Kung. Celebrations include a boat parade, a “Fa Pau” (floral shrine) parade and lion dances. Another important celebration is in Yuen Long’s Tai Shu Ha where there is a three-hour procession including lion and dragon dances, a “Fa Pau” parade, a marching band and cultural performances. Celebratory Festivities of Tin Hau Festival 天后誕慶祝活動 Yuen Long Shap Pat Heung Tin Hau Festival Procession (25 April 2011) 元朗十八鄉天后誕會景巡遊 (2011 年 4 月 25 日) One of the highlights of the Tin Hau festivities is the procession in Shap Pat Heung (means 18 villages in Cantonese) in Yuen Long in the New Territories which has been held for the past 48 years. The Globalization of Chinese Food ANTHROPOLOGY OF ASIA SERIES Series Editor: Grant Evans, University ofHong Kong Asia today is one ofthe most dynamic regions ofthe world. The previously predominant image of 'timeless peasants' has given way to the image of fast-paced business people, mass consumerism and high-rise urban conglomerations. Yet much discourse remains entrenched in the polarities of 'East vs. West', 'Tradition vs. Change'. This series hopes to provide a forum for anthropological studies which break with such polarities. It will publish titles dealing with cosmopolitanism, cultural identity, representa tions, arts and performance. The complexities of urban Asia, its elites, its political rituals, and its families will also be explored. • When Is the Best Time to Go to Hong Kong?
Page 1 of 98 Chris’ Copyrights @ 2011 When Is The Best Time To Go To Hong Kong? Winter Season (December - March) is the most relaxing and comfortable time to go to Hong Kong but besides the weather, there's little else to do since the "Sale Season" occurs during Summer. There are some sales during Christmas & Chinese New Year but 90% of the clothes are for winter. Hong Kong can get very foggy during winter, as such, visit to the Peak is a hit-or-miss affair. A foggy bird's eye view of HK isn't really nice. Summer Season (May - October) is similar to Manila's weather, very hot but moving around in Hong Kong can get extra uncomfortable because of the high humidity which gives the "sticky" feeling. Hong Kong's rainy season also falls on their summer, July & August has the highest rainfall count and the typhoons also arrive in these months. The Sale / Shopping Festival is from the start of July to the start of September. If the sky is clear, the view from the Peak is great. Avoid going to Hong Kong when there are large-scale exhibitions or ongoing tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament because hotel prices will be significantly higher. CUSTOMS & DUTY FREE ALLOWANCES & RESTRICTIONS • Currency - No restrictions • Tobacco - 19 cigarettes or 1 cigar or 25 grams of other manufactured tobacco • Liquor - 1 bottle of wine or spirits • Perfume - 60ml of perfume & 250 ml of eau de toilette • Cameras - No restrictions • Film - Reasonable for personal use • Gifts - Reasonable amount • Agricultural Items - Refer to consulate Note: • If arriving from Macau, duty-free imports for Macau residents are limited to half the above cigarette, cigar & tobacco allowance • Aircraft crew & passengers in direct transit via Hong Kong are limited to 20 cigarettes or 57 grams of pipe tobacco.

Reviews were prepared and published in 1991, 1993 and 1996. This is the fourth and the last review. 2. The First Review in 1991 summarised progress during the first two years of the programme, noting that action in most areas (with the exception of water pollution control measures) was proceeding in an encouraging way. The Second Review (1993), a more comprehensive document emphasized that protecting and sustaining the environment was a responsibility, not of some particular sector of society, but of all of us. The Third Review was aimed at arousing the public's awareness of the concept of sustainability. It contributed to informing the public and stimulating their debate on various environmental issues.

  • MEMORANDUM to : Designing Hong Kong from : Peter Lee, Stephanie Siu, Jeremy Or and Cindy Ha of Reed Smith Richards Butler Date
MEMORANDUM To : Designing Hong Kong From : Peter Lee, Stephanie Siu, Jeremy Or and Cindy Ha of Reed Smith Richards Butler Date : 15 February 2018 Client : Designing Hong Kong Matter: 999934.10176 / Advice on development of water taxis in Hong Kong -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A. INTRODUCTION 1. This is a legal advice on the following issues regarding the setting up of a water taxi system in Hong Kong: (a) Licensing, certification and other relevant requirements by the Hong Kong Marine Department (the “MD”) and the Hong Kong Transport Department (“TD”); (b) Embarkation and disembarkation restrictions within the waters of Hong Kong; (c) Environmental issues concerning the operation of water taxis; and (d) Booking system for water taxis. 2. By way of background, the Task Force on Water-land Interface of the Harbourfront Commission looked into the potentials of water taxis services in the Victoria Harbour in its Paper No. TFWL/02/2012 "Waterborne Passenger Transportation in Victoria Harbour” (See Attachment 1) in February 2012. This Paper will be referred to throughout this memorandum as the “HC Paper”. 3. In preparing this memorandum, we have made the following assumptions: (a) only existing licensed vessels will be deployed as water taxis in this water taxi system i.e. the vessels used as water taxis will have already complied with licensing requirements overseen by the MD (as set out in Section B1 Marine Department - the vessel) and no new vessels are required to be built.; (b) the subject water taxis will operate for private hire use (akin to Uber or road taxis) as opposed to a system of public transport such as the Star Ferry; and (c) the subject water taxis will be “local vessels”1 used solely within Hong Kong waters and therefore be subject mainly to the laws of Hong Kong.
