Monterey High School 2021 – LISD Graduation Dress Policy Graduation Dress Expectations Dresses/skirts or dress slacks/dress pants, dress blouse/dress shirt with with tie is the Dress/Clothing expected dress for the graduation ceremony. Expectations Pants must be worn at waist (no sagging). LISD Dress Code MUST be followed. Dress shoes (wedges or flat heels), Dress Boots or dress sandals. Shoes NO TENNIS SHOES, FLIP-FLOPS OR ANY TYPE OF SPIKED HEEL. Heels other than wedges or flats will damage the turf and are not allowed. Graduation Cap No jewelry pinned or on graduation gown or cap. & Gown No décor/designs allowed on caps. No large or bulky jewelry. Jewelry should complement graduation gown, not take away Accessories from the formal attire. No items worn on cap & gown outside of the district approved stoles. LISD Dress & Grooming Policy MUST be followed. Dress & No facial piercings. Grooming Hair must be clean & well groomed, and must meet LISD hair policy. Tassel is worn on the right (to be moved to left upon principal directive). Other Caps level (flat) on top of head. Everything must be out of your pockets prior to the ceremony. Please leave phones, keys, wallets, etc. at home or with your family. Bags (with your name attached) will be available to hold any keys or other pocket items during graduation. Personal belongings will be monitored for safety throughout the ceremony. o Again: NO ITEMS ARE ALLOWED ON THE GRADUATE DURING GRADUATION. The items listed below have been approved by LISD and may be worn in the graduation ceremony. Nothing else can be added to the graduation cap & gown-- no jewelry, pins, or cords of any kind are appropriate with the exception of the following: Red Honor Stole Worn by all graduates with a 3.5 or higher GPA (Purchase from main office-Cost TBA) Blue NHS Stole Worn by NHS seniors in good standing (Purchase or rent from Mrs. Clements-Cost TBA) Red, White & Blue Cords Worn by any graduates joining the military (See Mrs. Holdridge to be added to list) Blue & Gold Cords Worn by graduates that participated in the AVID Program Blue PLTW Stoles Worn by graduates that participated in the PLTW Program Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Cords Worn by graduates earning 24 + hours through SPC or OnRamps Program Note: Any other attire requested to be worn on cap & gown or other clothing not listed must be district level approved. For more information, please contact [email protected]. 1 The Carter Family Shirley Plantation claims the rightful spot as Virginia’s first plantation and the oldest family-run business in North America. It began as a royal land grant given to Sir Thomas West and his wife Lady Cessalye Shirley in 1613 and developed into the existing estate one can currently visit by 1725. The present day estate consists of the mansion itself and ten additional buildings set along a Queen Anne forecourt. These buildings include a Root Cellar, Pump House, two-story Plantation Kitchen, two story Laundry, Smokehouse, Storehouse with an Ice House below, a second Storehouse for grain, Brick Stable, Log Barn and Pigeon House or Dovecote. At one time the Great House was augmented by a North and a South Flanker: they were two free standing wings, 60 feet long and 24 feet wide and provided accommodations for visitors and guests. The North Flanker burned and its barrel-vaulted basement was converted into a root cellar and the South Flanker was torn down in 1868.

The Department of Marketing's objective in establishing a dress code is to enable students to project a professional image while still experiencing the comfort advantages of more casual and relaxed clothing. Not all casual clothing is suitable for the classroom, so these guidelines will help you determine what is appropriate to wear. Clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance clubs, exercise sessions, and sports contests are not appropriate for a professional appearance. Below is a general overview of what we mean by “acceptable business casual attire.” Items that are not appropriate for the classroom are listed, too. Neither list is all-inclusive and both are open to change. The lists tell you what is generally acceptable as business casual attire and what is generally not acceptable as business casual attire. No dress code can cover all contingencies so students must apply a certain amount of judgment in their choice of clothing to wear to Department of Marketing classes. If you experience uncertainty about acceptable, professional business casual attire for your class, please ask your professor or stop by the Marketing office (352 COB Building) to discuss this with the department chairperson. Clothing should be pressed and never wrinkled. Torn, dirty, or frayed clothing is unacceptable. All seams must be finished. Any clothing that has words, terms, or pictures that may be offensive and/or create a hostile environment for other students is unacceptable. A general guideline for business casual attire for women includes: • Khaki, corduroy, twill or cotton pants or skirts, neatly pressed; • Sweaters, twinsets, cardigans, polo/knit shirts, tailored blouses; • Solid colors work better than bright patterns.
