AMUN Dress Code & the Representative Dance American Model United Nations Conference Preparation Newsletter. 30 Sep 2019. American Model United Nations Conference Preparation Newsletter Information for Representatives! Dress Code and the 2019 Dance. Greetings from the AMUN Secretariat. Please forward this important information to your students. This newsletter covers information on our Conference Dress Code and Representative Dance, both of which we like to make certain students hear about as early as possible. AMUN’s Dress Code Like most Model UN Conferences, AMUN has a specific Dress Code for all conference attendees. For your convenience, the full text of this dress code is copied below. This information is also available in our Conference Handbook. Our dress code is meant to be inclusive while encouraging a professional atmosphere for deliberations. If you have any concerns about AMUN’s Dress Code or just need clarification please contact us at [email protected]. The appearance of AMUN participants provides the first impressions of their delegation to other representatives. Attention to proper appearance sets an expectation for professionalism and competence. In order to demonstrate respect to fellow representatives, Secretariat members and distinguished guests of the Conference, AMUN requires conservative Western business attire for all representatives and Secretariat during all formal sessions, including the final sessions on Tuesday. Western business attire is a business jacket or suit, dress slacks or skirt, dress shirt, appropriate hosiery or socks and dress shoes. Attire should follow the rule of being appropriate for visiting an embassy. Conservative accessories such as ties, scarves, and formal jewelry are traditional in business settings. Sweaters or leggings are too casual for Western business attire. Clothing that reveals undergarments in any way is not appropriate. AMUN will not consider any manner of dress appropriate which includes T-shirts, jeans, shorts, hats, athletic shoes or any form of commercial advertising. Participants shall not wear the traditional or religious garb of any State or organization. The only exception to this is required traditional or religious garb of a student’s personal religion or culture. Additionally, participants should not affect the mannerisms, linguistic characteristics or any other perceived traits of a State or culture that they are representing. These affectations are inappropriate and may be seen as offensive by other students or by natives of that State or culture. Small lapel pins representing the delegation’s flag or other national symbols are appropriate. Please be aware that representatives who are not appropriately attired or who do not follow these rules may not be recognized during formal debate in any AMUN simulation. Further, AMUN reserves the right to refuse admittance to the Conference floor to any representative who is inappropriately attired or who violates the above provisions. Decisions about appropriate attire and professional behavior are at the discretion of the AMUN Secretariat. AMUN’s Representative Dance: 1989! Each year AMUN hosts the premiere Representative Dance of any Model UN conference for all participating AMUN students. We have a DJ and everything. In honor of our 30th Anniversary, this year’s theme is 1989! It’s a blast from the past! 1989 was a great year, The Berlin Wall came down, Die Hard was on in theaters for the first time, Bon Jovi let us know that he’ll be there for us, and AMUN became a thing! This is the era of Prince, Madonna and New Kids on the Block. So tease your hair as big as possible, pull out your parachute pants or Nike windbreaker. Heck, throw on some leg warmers and channel your inner 80’s or early 90’s self and open the door to the time machine that will take you back to 1989. We encourage you to find your favorite 80’s outfit for the dance, but dressing to the theme is encouraged, not required. Our Representative dance is held on Monday evening after the close of the last session and will end at 2:00 a.m. For full rules and requirements for the dance, please see the Conference Handbook online. Why Does AMUN Not Accept Pre-Written Resolutions? One question the AMUN Secretariat receives fairly often is why will we not accept pre-written resolutions; after all most resolutions at the United Nations are written by a primary author in advance of in-person meetings. And while this is true, it’s also true that this is the end product of a long, ongoing, interactive process of diplomacy among Member States. To that end, AMUN wants to emulate the collaborative, consensus-building nature of the United Nations. It is strongly encouraged that Representatives be prepared to begin work on any draft resolution once they arrive at conference and can speak with partner Member States and bloc members. Questions, Comments or Concerns? If you have any questions about this email, please contact us directly at [email protected] and we will be happy to help. As always, if you are no longer the primary contact for your school’s model UN club or class, please contact us at [email protected] with updated contact information or fill out our Change of Address/Contact form online. Good Luck on Your Preparations, Brianne E. Picnic Skirt FREE YOUTUBE TUTORIAL © 2020 Charm Patterns by Gertie SEWING INSTRUCTIONS NOTES: This style can be made for any size child or adult, as long as you know the waist measurement, how long you want the skirt, and how full you want the skirt. I used 4 yards of width, which results in a big, full skirt with lots of gathers packed in. You can easily use a shorter yardage of fabric if you prefer fewer gathers or you’re making the skirt for a smaller person or child. Seam Finishing: all raw edges are fully enclosed in the construction process, so there is no need for seam finishing. • Business Professional Dress Code
Business Professional Dress Code The way you dress can play a big role in your professional career. Part of the culture of a company is the dress code of its employees. Some companies prefer a business casual approach, while other companies require a business professional dress code. BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE FOR MEN Men should wear business suits if possible; however, blazers can be worn with dress slacks or nice khaki pants. Wearing a tie is a requirement for men in a business professional dress code. Sweaters worn with a shirt and tie are an option as well. BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE FOR WOMEN Women should wear business suits or skirt-and-blouse combinations. Women adhering to the business professional dress code can wear slacks, shirts and other formal combinations. Women dressing for a business professional dress code should try to be conservative. Revealing clothing should be avoided, and body art should be covered. Jewelry should be conservative and tasteful. COLORS AND FOOTWEAR When choosing color schemes for your business professional wardrobe, it's advisable to stay conservative. Wear "power" colors such as black, navy, dark gray and earth tones. Avoid bright colors that attract attention. Men should wear dark‐colored dress shoes. Women can wear heels or flats. Women should avoid open‐toe shoes and strapless shoes that expose the heel of the foot. GOOD HYGIENE Always practice good hygiene. For men adhering to a business professional dress code, this means good grooming habits. Facial hair should be either shaved off or well groomed. Clothing should be neat and always pressed.

  • Craft Sportswear and the Finnish National Biathlon Team Launches ‘Hannunvaakuna’ Racing Suit
Dec 03, 2015 08:00 CET Craft Sportswear and the Finnish national biathlon team launches ‘hannunvaakuna’ racing suit The collaboration between Swedish sportswear brand Craft and the Finnish national biathlon team has resulted in highly functional race garments with a truly strong presence. The new competition wear will be worn by Kaisa Mäkäräinen and her colleagues on the Finnish team during the 2015/2016 season. "We looked for something that would really set the suit apart from the competition," says Craft's designer Lena Karlsson. "Soon we came up with the 'hannunvaakuna', the looped square that is a common symbol in Finland and that conveys strength and good luck. Placing the patterns in lines that follow the moving body, we have created a suit that truly radiates speed and power." The new Finland Biathlon competition garments are based on Craft's revolutionary Podium Suit, which has been equipped with biathlon-specific details such as smooth rubber patches in certain areas to ensure steady and precise shooting. Made of very thin and lightweight Italian polyester, the suit offers superior moisture transport and body-temperature management. In addition, compression fabrics in the legs keep the muscles focused while ultrasonic taped seams create a smooth surface for optimal aerodynamics. The suit is packed with innovative features including Moving Wing Technology ™, which is a wing-like construction piece at the upper back that ensures total freedom of movement and allows the skiers to transmit all their power into each pole stroke. Furthermore, three-dimensional ergonomic design provides perfect fit and optimal comfort. Craft is a Swedish brand specializing in clothing for endurance sports where performance and comfort are crucial for a good result.

  • A New Method of Classification for Tai Textiles
A New Method of Classification for Tai Textiles Patricia Cheesman Textiles, as part of Southeast Asian traditional clothing and material culture, feature as ethnic identification markers in anthropological studies. Textile scholars struggle with the extremely complex variety of textiles of the Tai peoples and presume that each Tai ethnic group has its own unique dress and textile style. This method of classification assumes what Leach calls “an academic fiction … that in a normal ethnographic situation one ordinarily finds distinct tribes distributed about the map in an orderly fashion with clear-cut boundaries between them” (Leach 1964: 290). Instead, we find different ethnic Tai groups living in the same region wearing the same clothing and the same ethnic group in different regions wearing different clothing. For example: the textiles of the Tai Phuan peoples in Vientiane are different to those of the Tai Phuan in Xiang Khoang or Nam Nguem or Sukhothai. At the same time, the Lao and Tai Lue living in the same region in northern Vietnam weave and wear the same textiles. Some may try to explain the phenomena by calling it “stylistic influence”, but the reality is much more profound. The complete repertoire of a people’s style of dress can be exchanged for another and the common element is geography, not ethnicity. The subject of this paper is to bring to light forty years of in-depth research on Tai textiles and clothing in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), Thailand and Vietnam to demonstrate that clothing and the historical transformation of practices of social production of textiles are best classified not by ethnicity, but by geographical provenance.

  • Clothing in France
CLOTHING IN FRANCE For their day-to-day activities, the French, both in the countryside and the cities, wear modern Western-style clothing. Perhaps the most typical item of clothing associated with the French is the black beret. It is still worn by some men, particularly in rural areas. The French are renowned for fashion design. Coco Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent, Christian Dior, and Jean-Paul Gautier are all French fashion design houses whose creations are worn by people around the world. Traditional regional costumes are still worn at festivals and celebrations. In Alsace, women may be seen in white, lace-trimmed blouses and aprons decorated with colorful flowers. Women's costumes in Normandy include white, flared bonnets and dresses with wide, elbow-length sleeves. A traditional symbol of the region, the famous Alsatian headdress was abandoned after 1945. Today, this can only be admired during certain cultural and tourist events. Varying widely from one part of Alsace to another, the traditional costumes reflected the social standing and faith of their wearers. Consequently, Protestant women in the North would wear the colors of their choosing; where as Catholics from Kochersberg (to the northwest of Strasbourg) wore only ruby red. Some women would decorate the hems of their skirts with velvet ribbons. Others, particularly in the south, would wear printed cotton clothing, often made of silk for special occasions with paisley patterned designs. The aprons, worn everywhere throughout Alsace, were plain white. However, on Sundays it was not uncommon to see silk or satin aprons decorated with embroidery, and worn over skirts or dresses.
