The preceding part under this general title was published in the Reeords of the Indian Museum XXIX, pp. 167-214, 1927 In the pre sent instalment I wish to continue th~ study of the extensive series of Tipulidae received during the intervening years through the various authorities in charge of the Zoological Survey of India. My deepest thanks and appreciation are herewith extended to Dr. B. N. Chopra, Dr. Hem Singh Pruthi, Dr. Baini Pr~shad, Lt.-Col. R. B. S. Sewell and Dr. H. A. Hafiz. It is the friendly interest of these men, an~ of the entomologists of the Indian Museum, that has so advanced our knowledge of this neglected group of flies in British India. The types and uniques will be returned to the Indian Museum; besides these Inaterials, I have included two species received from other sources, but paratypes of both of these will be added to the Museum collection. During the course of the past sever:al years I have been particularly privileged to have had sent to me in America the type-specimens of certain of the Brunetti Tipulidae whose strict identity remained in quesc. tion. Most of such as are discussed in the present paper 'belong to the vast genus Tipula and particularly to those species having marmorate wings, considered by Brunetti to be very closely inter-related and to be virtually unkeyable but now known to belong to sections and subgenera different from one another and all clearly definable. -

Preliminary key to the genus-group taxa G. THEISCHINGER Abstract: The genus-group taxa of the Australian Limoniinae are keyed, with relevant characters illustrated. Introduction Until now, a key to the genera and subgenera of the Australian Limoniinae has not been available. Therefore, since starting to study this group of crane flies in 1988. I have been asked repeatedly by Australian biologists and by overseas tipulid specialists to provide such a key. After having revised several genera and having sorted most of the Australian Limo- niinae available in collections, I am now in a position to present a preliminary key to the genus-group taxa. I am particularly glad about the timing of the key's appearance, as it is coincident with a forthcoming project on the larvae of the Australian Tipulidae. Apart from filling a gap, the preliminary key below should facilitate this and other projects in their infant stages and will possibly benefit from them later. It should be noted again that besides the one-family concept of Tipulidae which was followed throughout his career by Alexander, which was recently seconded by BYERS (1992) and which is followed in this paper, an alternative multi-family system of crane flies is presently being used and has been used for some time by tipulid workers, par- ticularly in Europe. -
Two New Long-Rostrum Cranefly Species from the Cretaceous
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Two new long‑rostrum cranefy species from the Cretaceous Iberian amber (Diptera, Limoniidae, Helius) Iwona Kania‑Kłosok 1*, Wiesław Krzemiński 2 & Antonio Arillo 3 First record of the genus Helius—long‑rostrum cranefy from Maestrazgo Basin (eastern Spain, Iberian Penisula) is documented. Two new fossil species of the genus Helius are described from Cretaceous Spanish amber and compared with other species of the genus known from fossil record with particular references to these known from Cretaceous period. Helius turolensis sp. nov. is described from San Just amber (Lower Cretaceous, upper Albian) Maestrazgo Basin, eastern Spain, and Helius hispanicus sp. nov. is described from Álava amber (Lower Cretaceous, upper Albian), Basque‑Cantabrian Basin, northern Spain. The specifc body morphology of representatives of the genus Helius preserved in Spanish amber was discussed in relation to the environmental conditions of the Maestrazgo Basin and Basque‑Cantabrian Basin in Cretaceous. Te family Limoniidae was previously recorded from Spanish amber. Tree species were described: Alavia neli Krzemiński et Arillo, 2007 1, Helius alavensis Kania, Krzemiński et Arillo, 2016 2, and Helius spiralensis Kania, Krzemiński et Arillo, 2017 3, all from Peñacerrada I outcrop1–3. In Cretaceous Spanish amber, we fnd some of the oldest representatives of the genus Helius, evidence of the beginnings of the evolution of this group of insects. From the Cretaceous period only six species are known, four from Early Cretaceous 2–5, and two from Late Cretaceous 6,7. Te oldest representatives of the genus were described based on lower Barremian 8 inclusions in Lebanese amber, from Hammana-Mdeyrij4,5 and Tannourine (Lebanon4 and two a little younger from upper Albian of Peñacerrada I (Spain)2,3. -
