Press release, free for publication July 28 New Flow Festival venue fuses cinema and bar Flow Festival joins forces with Riviera cinema to present the fun and stylish Riviera Cinema Bar. Riviera sees its actual launch in Kallio, Helsinki this October. Flow Festival has the pleasure to offer a sneak peek of Riviera, an independent movie theatre that will launch just off Helsinginkatu on Harjukatu in Kallio, Helsinki this October. It continues the story of the Riviera, last seen on the same spot in the olden days. At Flow, the Riviera Cinema Bar will be housed in the Centre of New Circus Cirko, where Flow visitors are invited to relax enjoying drinks and engaging films throughout the festival weekend. Each festival day at Riviera Cinema Bar has its own cinematic theme. Friday promises straightforward looniness to celebrate getting into the festival spirit. Contemporary classics such as Gaspar Noé’s hypnotic Enter the Void and Alexandre Aja’s horror comedy Piranha 3D as well as Finnish director supreme Aki Kaurismäki’s legendary 1985 film Calamari Union are a sophisticated combination of impressive art film and loony moves that break the boundaries of taste with no remorse. On Saturday the theme leans on the erotic, inspired by Freddy Kamras who used to own Riviera and was initially known as an importer of softcore porn films. The films include the Tinto Brass’s The Voyeur (L’uomo che guard) which worships the female body. On the other end of the scale there is Drive, Nicolas Winding Refn’s masterpiece, loaded in so many ways. Other films include Abdellatif Kechiche’s award-winning Blue is the Warmest Colour (La Vie d’Adèle) as well as Gaspar Noé’s Love, which is at the moist core of the day’s theme. Sunday is dedicated to resting the brain with various levels of fluff of questionable qualities, such as the action romp The Expendables 3 starring Sylvester Stallone.
