By Emme DeMilt There are a lot of unusual sports in the world - I’m not talking about lacrosse or gymnastics. In this article, we will explore sports you’ve probably never heard of before. Maybe you will find a new athletic love! Let’s start with Quidditch. A sport based on the beloved book series Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. Two teams of seven players each battle is out with a variety of volley- balls, dodgeballs, tennis balls, brooms, and hoops. A broom is placed in between your leg as you play this game, attempting to score as many points as possible before the snitch is caught. Created in 2005, this game is a magically good time. Another weird sport is Dog Yoga, or Doga. It is when you hold your dog and put them in yoga positions. With acts of dog training, human yoga, meditation, gentle massage, and stretching Doga participants try to find a greater harmony with their dogs. How the dogs do downward dog or headstand hold? Not sure. But have fun doga-ing. There is another unusual sport including dogs where the humans aren’t involved. In dog surfing the dogs are trained to stand on surfboards, body boards, skim boards, windsurf boards, or they can body surf. They even compete. If you want a good laugh, you should watch one of their competitions at https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=Glj2bDN_RnI , especially if you love dogs! They are so adorable! You would be so surprised how funny it is. This sport has been occurring since the early 1920s. I wish I could experience this through a dog’s point of view. Now for another really funny unusual sport, there’s a sport called Extreme Iron- ing. This is when people take ironing boards and irons and pieces of clothing to extreme locations like the top of a cliff or on a speeding boat and then iron their clothing.

PIECES OF A WOMAN Directed by Kornél Mundruczó Starring Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Molly Parker, Sarah Snook, Iliza Shlesinger, Benny Safdie, Jimmie Falls, Ellen Burstyn **WORLD PREMIERE – In Competition – Venice Film Festival 2020** **OFFICIAL SELECTION – Gala Presentations – Toronto International Film Festival 2020** Press Contacts: US: Julie Chappell | [email protected] International: Claudia Tomassini | [email protected] Sales Contact: Linda Jin | [email protected] 1 SHORT SYNOPSIS When an unfathomable tragedy befalls a young mother (Vanessa Kirby), she begins a year-long odyssey of mourning that touches her husband (Shia LaBeouf), her mother (Ellen Burstyn), and her midwife (Molly Parker). Director Kornél Mundruczó (White God, winner of the Prix Un Certain Regard Award, 2014) and partner/screenwriter Kata Wéber craft a deeply personal meditation and ultimately transcendent story of a woman learning to live alongside her loss. SYNOPSIS Martha and Sean Carson (Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf) are a Boston couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably during a home birth at the hands of a flustered midwife (Molly Parker), who faces charges of criminal negligence. Thus begins a year-long odyssey for Martha, who must navigate her grief while working through fractious relationships with her husband and her domineering mother (Ellen Burstyn), along with the publicly vilified midwife whom she must face in court. From director Kornél Mundruczó (White God, winner of the Prix Un Certain Regard Award, 2014), with artistic support from executive producer Martin Scorsese, and written by Kata Wéber, Mundruczó’s partner, comes a deeply personal, searing domestic aria in exquisite shades of grey and an ultimately transcendent story of a woman learning to live alongside her loss.

AMERICAN INDIVIDUALISM IN THE ANTHROPOCENE: THE CYLCE OF DISRUPTION AND THE COLLAPSE OF THE HAPPY CONSCIOUSNESS by DANIEL SNELL A THESIS Presented to the Department of Classics and Philosophy and the Robert D. Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts June 2020 An Abstract of the Thesis of Daniel Snell for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the Department of Classics and Philosophy to be taken June 2020 Title: American Individualism in the Anthropocene: The Cycle of Disruption and the Collapse of the Happy Consciousness Approved: Steven Brence, Ph.D. Primary Thesis Advisor Geological science widely accepts that in the middle of the 20th century the Earth entered a new epoch: the Anthropocene. There is a key difference between the Anthropocene and previous geological epochs: Humans are the driving force of planetary evolution. During this geological transition the fabric of American society was massively disrupted by rapid industrialization and technological development. John Dewey recounts this destabilization in Individualism Old and New, and Herbert Marcuse describes the results of the destabilization in One-Dimensional Man. This essay will explore the characteristics of the Anthropocene and the implications it has for the American individual including the establishment of two predominant individualistic mindsets. Then, it will explain a four-step process called the Cycle of Disruption that I believe occurred after the industrial revolution and continues to this day. It will examine how the forces of the Anthropocene have influenced the two prevailing individualistic mindsets and where contemporary American society falls within the Cycle of Disruption; focusing on the disruption caused by the Internet and its accessory technologies.
