He’s also written and produced on “Gilmore Girls” and co-created the Lifetime sitcom, “Rita Rocks” and the Emmy nominated webseries, “Secs & Execs”. In film, he wrote both Brady Bunch movies. Zimmerman directs and produces theatre in LA, including such productions as the LatinX The Diary of Anne Frank, Heartbreak Help, Pledge, Warm Cheese, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, BLINK and You Might Miss Me, Gemini. He also directed three plays he co-wrote – Yes Virginia, Knife to the Heart, and Meet & Greet. Stan appeared on Broadway with Nureyev & the Joffrey Ballet. Will they learn to live together or will the story end in tragedy? The final show will run from February 8-10, 2019. Abstract Transtv: Transgender Visibility And
ABSTRACT TRANSTV: TRANSGENDER VISIBILITY AND REPRESENTATION IN SERIALIZED TELEVISION by Joshua Blake Jones With the increased visibility of transgender figures in serialized television comes a plethora of case studies to examine the ways in which transgender identity is culturally represented and perceived. My thesis examines the representations of transgender figures in the contemporary American serialized television series Orange Is the New Black, Transparent, and I Am Cait. My goal is to explore how these male-to-female transgender people embody alternative masculinities and femininities as well as how their transitions are received by those around them. Their trans identity, I argue, results in negative treatment caused by (and especially due to) their socioeconomic status and race. The introduction outlines the film, critical race, and transgender theoretical frameworks informing the project, followed by an exploration of the three aforementioned series. The first chapter embarks on a study of the ways in which the casting of transgender actors is crucial to provide a meaningful significance to the narrative. This argument carries into the second chapter, which discusses what happens when a cisgender actor is cast as a transgender character. The final chapter moves away from casting practices and instead highlights the social ramifications of nonfictional transgender narratives on television. This 12 day celebration of cinema illustrates the richness of international filmmaking, with films to delight and entertain audiences, and also films that probe and interrogate issues of significance. The Festival is the UK’s leading and most prestigious film festival, representing one of the first opportunities for audiences – both the UK public and film industry professionals - to see the very best new films from around the globe, alongside an events programme with some of the world’s most inspiring creative talents. This year, the Festival will host 21 World Premieres, 9 International Premieres and 29 European Premieres and will welcome a stellar line up of cast and crew for many of the films.
