Kimball and the No. 83 Levemir® FlexTouch® Chevrolet started in the middle of Row 5 for the 200-lap race. The field saw an early yellow on the first lap for a multi-car incident in Turn 1 involving teammate Sage Karam. With extensive clean-up, the race would not see a green lap until the restart on Lap 12. By Lap 27 Kimball had advanced three spots up to 11th until pitting for the No. 83’s first stop of the race on Lap 37. The No. 83 had advanced to eighth by Lap 46 and made two more passes for sixth by Lap 60. The second yellow of the day came on Lap 64 and NNCGR brought the No. 83 in for the second stop of the day on Lap 65 under yellow for fuel and tires. Over the next 10 laps, Kimball would move from sixth to the third position until pitting again on Lap 100 for fuel and tires.

FAST FACT The highest recorded temperature in the U.S. was 134° F (56.7° C) in Death Valley, Calif., on July 10, 1913. The highest recorded track temperature during an Indy car race was 137° F (58.3° C) on July 7, 2013 at Pocono Raceway. Graham Rahal raises his fist in celebration after taking the checkered flag at his home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, putting him within nine points of championship frontrunner Juan Pablo Montoya. John Cote/IMS Photo WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: MONTOYA LOOKS TO TIGHTEN GRASP ON LEAD: With wins at St. Petersburg and the Indianapolis 500, Juan Pablo Montoya remains atop the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings. The Colombian, who has won four of his previous 10 500-mile races, leads Graham Rahal by nine points and Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and Will Power are within striking distance. Can Montoya repeat at Pocono and strengthen his hold on the series championship lead? ANDRETTI SEEKS BREAKTHROUGH WIN AT HOME TRACK: Marco Andretti will compete in a virtual hometown race at Pocono. Andretti can lean on family ties for some advice as Pocono is one of two tracks where all three generations of racing’s most famous family have had success. Andretti’s grandfather, open- wheel great Mario Andretti, won the 1986 race, while his father Michael won pole for the race in 1986. Marco claimed the pole for the race in 2013. KARAM RACES AT HOME: Like the Andretti family, Sage Karam hails from nearby Nazareth, Pa., and will be racing in front of friends and family.

  • Sage Karam Quickest in Thursday Star Mazda
SAGE KARAM QUICKEST IN THURSDAY STAR MAZDA PRACTICE AT MILWAUKEE The Milwaukee Mile (June 16, 2011) – Sage Karam, the 2010 USF2000 champion and Mazda Road to Indy scholarship driver now competing in the 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, made his first foray to the top of the time sheet this season, setting the fastest time in Thursday testing at the Milwaukee Mile. His lap – in clear and dry conditions - of 27.250 (132.110 mph) in the #88 Andretti Autosport / MAZDASPEED / Comfort Revolution Mazda was just 1/1,000th of a second shy of the official Star Mazda lap record at the Milwaukee Mile, a 27.249 set by Adrian Carrio in 2006. However, Star Mazda recognizes lap records only when set during qualifying or the race, not practice. "Today was great! We ended up P1 for the first time this year, so we're definitely showing improvement. The Andretti boys put together a great car today so I hope we can keep this momentum going for the rest of the weekend!" Karam's effort left him 4/10ths of a second clear of the second-quick driver, Brazilian J.V. Horto with a lap of 27.722 (129.861 mph) in the #18 Juncos Racing / Programa Leilões Mazda. Rounding out the top-5 were Chilean driver Martin Scuncio in 3rd with a 27.742 (129.767 mph) in the #60 Juncos Racing / Bia Comunicaciones / Cable Del Pacifico Mazda; Californian Gustavo Menezes in 4th with a 27.755 (129.706 mph) in the #28 Juncos Racing / Truecar / Safety Park Mazda; and Florida driver Nick Andries with a 27.767 (129.650 mph) in the #81 Team Pelfrey / Lithionics Battery / GS610 Brake Fluid / Trademark Garage Floors Mazda.
