INDYCAR is excited to offer a unique STEM-focused learning opportunity for students and teachers during the 2013 racing season. In select North American race markets, we’ll invite local students to the track to learn about everything from car and engine design to tire compounds and fuel formulas. Hands-on activities and getting up close and personal with a race car will give students real-world examples of how their science and math classes can lead to a fast-paced career in the world of motorsports. WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: HINCH LOOKS TO CONTINUE HOT START: James Hinchcliffe started the IZOD IndyCar Series season by scoring his first Indy car win in the season-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The former Sunoco Rookie of the Year made his series debut at Barber in 2011 and led a lap at the track last season. Can he continue his strong start to the 2013 season by adding another first at Barber Motorsports Park?
DINGER’S DEBUT: After three successful tests with Team Penske, A.J. Allmendinger will return to his racing roots at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. The Californian made his name in open-wheel racing before moving to NASCAR and hopes to recapture the success he had as a Champ Car regular at Barber as he tunes up for his Indianapolis 500 debut.
KEEP AN EYE ON SIMONA: A strong sixth-place finish at St. Petersburg showed that Simona de Silvestro is ready to have a breakout season. The Swiss driver looked poised to make a podium finish in her KV Racing Technology debut before fading to sixth. Can the Swiss Missile hit the target at Barber?
