Photogram: Create a photogram that addresses a social issue of your choosing. The issue you address does not have to be a politically charged issue. “Social” can refer to any group of people: an ethnic group, your group of friends, an age group, people from a specific area, or the entire human race. Keep in mind that your photogram should wholly communicate its content on its own accord. 2. DIPTYCH: In this assignment you will create a Diptych focusing on photographic genre. (2 images) Directions: For this project you will shoot 1 roll of 400ASA, 36 exposures. Shoot examples of the following Genres of Photography. You can create more images of the genre(s) you like – but each must be represented on the contact sheet: Landscape, Fashion, Portrait, Conceptual, Still Life, Documentary, Staged. As you are shooting fill out the log below noting the frame and the genre. Process film and print a contact sheet. Select your 3 most favored images. Print each of these using filters, burning and dodging creating 2 copies of each. Spot and mount the best version of each PASADENA CITY COLLEGE --FOR COMPLETE OUTLINE OF RECORD SEE PCC WEBCMS DATABASE-- Page 2 of 9 COURSE OUTLINE : PHOT 021 Last Revised and Approved: 05/01/2014 of these images (for a total of 3). Once you have printed and spotted these images – visit the library and find images to create 3 different diptychs. These should be decently photocopied so they can be critiqued (must be 8 x 10). You should be able to identify the genre of the photographs you have created and talk about how the image definitions are alter by the images you found. Hand in this sheet with the 3 prints, 3 tear images and 1 contact sheet in an envelope with your name, course name and project title on it. 3. CAMERA CONTROL: You will learn how to manipulate camera controls. (4 images)1. For this project you will be paired with a partner. 2. Each will shoot 1 roll of 400ASA, 36 exposures. 3. Divide the roll into 4, dedicating 9 frames to stop motion, 9 frames to motion blur, 9 frames to shallow depth of field and 9 frames to deep depth of field. 4. You will have extra frames in case you have problems while shooting. If when you complete each set of 9 you have not have any issues just meter and shoot the remaining frames of anything you wish. 5. While shooting record your shutter speed and aperture for each of the 36 frames below. 6. Submit 4 images printed using burning and dodging – one from each category, labeling the back in pencil with the category it represents, along with contact sheet and this form completed with your name on the top in an envelope with you name and project title on it. Be sure of the following when shooting: When shooting Stop Motion find fast moving subjects – set the shutter speed at 500 and meter by adjusting aperture. When shooting Motion Blur find fast moving subjects – set the shutter speed at 8 and meter by adjusting the aperture. When shooting shallow DOF set your aperture first – at 2.8 and meter by adjusting your shutter speed. When shooting deep DOF set your aperture first – at 22 or 32 and meter by adjusting your shutter speed. Write down your shutter speed and aperture for each as you work. 4. ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAIT: In this assignment you will create a Documentary or Environmental Portrait which reveals your feelings toward your subject. Final Series (5 images). For example Environmental Portrait: An environmental portrait is a portrait of someone in which the background, the environment, changes how we understand the person in the portrait. Choose one person of whom you will make a portrait. Select an environment that communicates something about your subject. Shoot a roll of 36 exposures of this subject in this environment.
