Course Description and Objectives Photo 2/Darkroom Photography is a 1 credit/1 year course designed for students who are continuing the study of photography at the secondary school level. This course also provides students with a Fine Arts credit needed for graduation requirements. This course can be combined with Photo 1 to fulfill the sequential elective credit also needed for graduation. Photo 1 is the prerequisite for this class.

Photo 2 is intended as an introduction to materials, equipment, techniques, and design concepts used in film photography. It is a general survey of film photography, focusing on darkroom practices and production, image composition, vocabulary, art history, and technical skills necessary to achieve successful development of film and prints in the darkroom.

Course Requirements 1. Successful completion of all exercises and class assignments within deadlines. 2. Creation of a portfolio of work. 3. Documentation of notes and assignments in a notebook. 4. Display work in school and/ or community exhibits.

Materials Required 1. Digital and/or 35mm film (must get teacher approval to use a cell phone as a camera) 2. USB drive 2GB or higher 3. Lined or unlined notebook 8x10” or larger 4. 3-ring binder 5. Clear plastic sheet protectors

Criteria for Assessment: Semester Grade: 80% 9 weeks Grade: Project Grades ​ 4 C’s creativity (25pts), craftsmanship (25pts), concept (25pts) and composition(25pts). Incomplete assignments will be given a “0”. Points will be deducted each day an assignment is late. Students are responsible for acquiring information and finishing any work missed due to an absence. Classwork Grades Students will complete all practice exercises and meet photo assignment deadlines for a classwork grade. Photo assignments will usually be homework. Practice exercises must be completed in class using Photoshop or chemical darkroom as required. Notebook Grades (Participation Grade) Students will demonstrate competence by completing all written classwork in notebook. You will be required to take notes on assignments, lectures, films, and demonstrations. Be sure to bring to every class. Notebook will be graded regularly and will missed assignments must be made up for homework. Notebook grades will not be accepted late, and must be turned in by the next class period following an absence. Notebook work should be completed ​ on the day it is assigned in class, or made up by next class period. 20%- Final Exam
