E U R O P A S S C U R R I C U L U M V I T A E Alessandro PALMERINI Microfonista e tecnico del suono di presa diretta. Inizio la mia formazione professionale presso l’Accademia per le Arti e le Scienze dell’Immagine dell’Aquila. I primi tre anni di studio riguardano tutto l’audiovisivo, dalla storia dell’arte, del cinema, della musica, alla fotografia, al montaggio, al suono. Imparo e svolgo più ruoli come regista, direttore della fotografia, operatore, suono, montaggio nel corso dei vari stage, collaborazioni e prodotti realizzati. Capacità e competenze a tutto tondo fondamentali poi nel mio percorso di formazione professionale. Nel 2002 mi specializzo in tecnico del suono di presa diretta nel Master del biennio finale. Nel 2004 partecipo come volontario al film L’Orizzonte degli Eventi di Daniele Vicari, dove conosco Remo Ugolinelli con il quale poco dopo ha inizio la mia vera carriera professionale con il film Non prendere Impegni Stasera. Ho unito la passione per la montagna a quella del cinema partecipando a due spedizioni su 8000 metri, una in Himalaya sul Cho Oyu (8201m) e l’altra in Karakorum sul Igor Brak (5010m) e Broad Peak (8056m) realizzando documentari proiettati al Festival Internazionale Cinema di Montagna, città di Trento. Collaboro con la Scuola d’Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volonté e con Bottega Indipendente di Francesco Bonsembiante. Sono membro del consiglio direttivo dell’Associazione Italiana Tecnici del Suono, e della Giuria del premio David di Donatello.     La Scorta Dear Moviegoer, are you tired of the explosions and broken glass of True Lies , Speed, Blown Away, and Clear and Present Danger ? Weary of the cartoon characters and cartoon plots of movies like Maverick,The Mask, or Baby’s Day Out ? Ready for some real adult (no, I don’t mean that kind of “adult”) entertainment with real tension, pace and motivation which is modeled carefully on actual events? Then try La Scorta (“The Escort”), an outstanding Italian film from a director who is one to watch. La Scorta, directed by Ricky Tognazzi, is as fresh and vivid as the Italian crime headlines of the last few years, due in great part to its being based on the real experiences of one Francesco Taurisano as an investigating magistrate (called a “judge” in the sub-titles) in Sicily during the late 1980’s. It is such judges, at least the honorable ones, who have become the target of Mafia hit men as they plumbed closer and closer to the heart of Cosa Nostra operations. The most infamous of these assassinations was that of the anti-Mafia Judge Giovanni Falcone, killed in a car bomb in May 1992. This is not, then, a world of facile and meaningless blow-’em-ups where Schwarzenegger or Stallone dwell, but the real, nasty thing, happening in one of Europe’s established democracies. The film follows four policemen who find themselves assigned as the protective escort for one of these investigating magistrates working in the town of Trapani, in the far northwest corner of Sicily.

    43e Festival International du Film de La Rochelle du 26 juin au 5 juillet 2015 LE PUZZLE DES CINÉMAS DU MONDE Une fois de plus nous revient l’impossible tâche de synthétiser une édition multiforme, tant par le nombre de films présentés que par les contextes dans lesquels ils ont été conçus. Nous ne pouvons nous résoudre à en sélectionner beaucoup moins, ce n’est pas faute d’essayer, et de toutes manières, un contexte économique plutôt inquiétant nous y contraint ; mais qu’une ou plusieurs pièces essentielles viennent à manquer au puzzle mental dont nous tentons, à l’année, de joindre les pièces irrégulières, et le Festival nous paraîtrait bancal. Finalement, ce qui rassemble tous ces films, qu’ils soient encore matériels ou virtuels (50/50), c’est nous, sélectionneuses au long cours. Nous souhaitons proposer aux spectateurs un panorama généreux de la chose filmique, cohérent, harmonieux, digne, sincère, quoique, la sincérité… Ambitieux aussi car nous aimons plus que tout les cinéastes qui prennent des risques et notre devise secrète pourrait bien être : mieux vaut un bon film raté qu’un mauvais film réussi. Et enfin, il nous plaît que les films se parlent, se rencontrent, s’éclairent les uns les autres et entrent en résonance dans l’esprit du festivalier. En 2015, nous avons procédé à un rééquilibrage géographique vers l’Asie, absente depuis plusieurs éditions de la programmation. Tout d’abord, avec le grand Hou Hsiao-hsien qui en est un digne représentant puisqu’il a tourné non seulement à Taïwan, son île natale mais aussi au Japon, à Hongkong et en Chine.

I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. ........................................ 2 Abstract The thesis offers a revised institutional history of US cable network Home Box Office that expands on its under-examined identity as a monthly subscriber service from 1972 to 1994. This is used to better explain extensive discussions of HBO‟s rebranding from 1995 to 2007 around high-quality original content and experimentation with new media platforms. The first half of the thesis particularly expands on HBO‟s origins and early identity as part of publisher Time Inc. from 1972 to 1988, before examining how this affected the network‟s programming strategies as part of global conglomerate Time Warner from 1989 to 1994. Within this, evidence of ongoing processes for aggregating subscribers, or packaging multiple entertainment attractions around stable production cycles, are identified as defining HBO‟s promotion of general monthly value over rivals. Arguing that these specific exhibition and production strategies are glossed over in existing HBO scholarship as a result of an over-valuing of post-1995 examples of „quality‟ television, their ongoing importance to the network‟s contemporary management of its brand across media platforms is mapped over distinctions from rivals to 2007.
